Spirited Away Frak Party 12/27 @ 10 PM ET

I mentioned the soot balls before. They were in Princess Mononoke also. My daughter dug them in that.

Or got lost.

They were? I don’t remember them being in that.

Damn, those were some tears!

I think I spent too much time over analyzing stuff like this. What’s this journey mean? Why do children have to save their parents? Why do they steal names? Cross bridges? Have Mentors? Etc? I get so boggled. I wish I were smart. Or at least took a mythology course or something.

I think you’re right. I must be confused with another movie. I remember their being two girls with a sick mom living with their dad. They move into a new house that is said to be haunted by the soot balls. Ring a bell?

I think you are talking about My Neighbor Totoro. Another great Miyazaki film.

A stink spirit. That haunts my living room when I have Mexican food.

You got it! Thanx.

There you go. Some times a Stink Spirit is just a stink spirit. Or an over winded fart joke?

Because otherwise they would get eaten.

Why do they steal names?

True names have power. Knowing a being’s true name allows you to control it.

Particularly if you can make it forget it’s real name.

Cross bridges?

Bridges are boundaries. Places between places are significant.

Have Mentors?

Older people know things that the young don’t. Easy enough.

Etc? I get so boggled. I wish I were smart. Or at least took a mythology course or something.

That’s why we have a hive mind.

Yep. After they pull the thorn out, another result of Mexican food. Better than laxatives.

Haven’t seen that one yet. Is it on the upcoming schedule, UD?

Why am I suddenly reminded of the Golgothan?

I love the Ahhhhhhhhhh afterwards. I have so many good memories with that Ahhhhhhhh.

I guess it all started when I first watched the ‘Hero’s Journey’ interviews with Joseph Campbell. I was so fascinated with all the similar themes in stories.

I really liked that one. I guess I have seen more than Akira and this one.

Howl’s Moving Castle
My Neighbor Totoro
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away

I think that’s all I’ve seen.

Good old archetypes. We’re really more similar than we are different.

Dang papercuts. I hate them also.

Not yet, we can do it first thing after the Cowboy Bebop Arc or we could setup one seperate from the Sunday party. I would say it is the most child friendly of all. I wanted to start out with movies that I thought would help draw more people into the Frak party.

I seem to be reminded of the Golgothan daily - IYKWIM.

What about TV series? Surely you’ve seen Cowboy Bebop?

I wonder if Jester were as bad as they are portrayed in films.

Best Jester was Danny Kaye!
