I hereby change my Musical to The Muppet Movie.
Well played sir!
I hereby change my Musical to The Muppet Movie.
Well played sir!
I was curious about Omra’s choices, but…
sticks an Angel’s pulse cannon in front of Omra’s face
“You must choose one!!!”
I did…
d:
This was hard, but I think this is my list. I found myself doing lot of shuffling to get my favorites into the “worst” categories I could. “Worst” being categories I didn’t like many films in.
action: Die Hard
adventure: Raiders of the Lost Ark
Animation: Ratatouille
Comedy: Ghostbusters
Drama: Cool Hand Luke (Might be a stretch, but it was pretty serious)
Fantasy: The Princess Bride
Horror: Aliens
Musical: South Park
Romance: Casablanca
Sci-Fi : …too many to pick. How about Back to the Future?
Sport: The Big Lebowski
Thriller: The Silence of the Lambs
War: Doctor Strangelove (cheat?)
Western: High Noon
Can you really stand to watch Back to the Future 1,000 (more) times? (: If you can, my hat’s off to you.
Edit: Not questioning the movie (I like it), just whether you’re certain of your choice.
No, I am not sure. I could watch it multiple times, though, which is one of the reasons it’s on the list over some others (Like Serenity. I just can’t watch Wash die over and over). I was thinking Star Wars, or maybe Empire, but if you see one you want to see them all. Maybe I’ll think on it more and update, just in case NASA pulls me off the street and puts me, alone, in a ship to Mars
I would, given the option to either take the movies above or pick a new list of 14 Sci-Fi movies, take that option INSTANTLY.
Hmmmm, I think mine would break down like this…
Action: Red (“I’m gonna get the pig!!”)
Adventure: The Fifth Element (“Multipass”)
Animation: Ratatouille (“the work of a critic is easy”)
Comedy: Dorkness Rising (“How much XP for the bard?”)
Drama: Shawshank Redemption (“rehabilitated? It’s just a made up word”)
Fantasy: Ninja Scroll (“When I die, I’ll take you to Hell with me.”)
Horror: Resident Evil (“Bitch isn’t standing now.”)
Musical: 1776 (“one useless man is a disgrace, two, a law firm…”)
Romance: You’ve Got Mail (“just call me Joe”)
SciFi: Matrix (“a bowl of running snot”)
Sport: Major League (“suffering from propeller lag”)
Thriller: The Usual Suspects ("…and like that, he disappears")
War: Where Eagles Dare (“Second rate punk huh?”)
Western: The Hallelujah Trail (“Move in a somewhat parallel direction?”)
Just my two cents
I expanded my list of Honorable Mentions. I also think Solai should add a Heist Category. There’s too many good Heist movies to have to compete in one of the other categories.

A Heist category would be good. I would expect almost everyone would pick an Ocean’s movie, but I could be wrong. I’d take 11 myself.
I would take Inception…which is kind of a heist movie but in reverse. OR Brothers Bloom
Yes, I agree with the heist category. Then my list would be complete with adding Brother’s Bloom.
Action: Demolition Man
Adventure: Captain Ron
Animation: How To Train Your Dragon
Comedy: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Drama: October Sky
Fantasy: Return of the Jedi
Horror: Tremors
Musical: Mulan
Romance: Casablanca
Sci-Fi: Avatar
Sport: The Replacements
Thriller: Jaws
War: Black Hawk Down
Western: (I don’t like westerns <_<) Cherokee Kid
Alright, who are you and what have you done with Default Prophet.
Okay…That’s the Default Prophet we know and love. So it must be you.
Kudos on the October Sky and Casablanca choices. You have impressed me.
~Shooter Out
Casablanca is the best movie of all time, Citizen Kane is such garbage.
October Sky I’ve seen probably…a dozen times.
Cherokee Kid has Burt Reynolds! It’s really good! Not really! Maybe decent at best!
I’m intrigued that you picked Jedi as fantasy, but I’m not calling foul at all.
Star Wars really is best classified as space fantasy not science fiction IMO.
Good call on Mulan too. Irresistible music is that one.
That was my justification as well
It’s interesting how this has taken off, sometimes you just have to ask the right question. What is the “best”, “your favorite” or “most viewable” movie, are really very different questions. It’s why I say Stargate SG-1 is my favorite series, I can also say Lost and BSG are superior in many ways. For all the films we all have in common there are just as many that make me wonder what makes it important enough to take when I could be happy without. Perhaps it is the emotions they stir up in each of us?
I would probably have the hardest time surviving with Talos’s list, then DP. For me, Casablanca is one of those movie where one viewing is enough.
The closest match for me so far would be Magnus, then Baconface.
Great call! I forgot about it when doing my computations. I could easily swap it or Can’t Hardly Wait in comedy.
I could also see switching:
Western - Maverick
Horror - Saw
Both of these were in a close second for me.
Any way to switch out Western for a Samurai film, most of the former are derived from the later anyways?
There are three that I have to bring: Fight Club, Memoirs of a Geisha and The Road Home. There is one film I would switch out with any but these three, American Beauty. (It’s really just falls into Drama)
My list is AMAZING you’re INSANE. Bet you haven’t seen half of those films
I didn’t say it was BAD, just that it’s further from my ideal then most others. You are correct though, I only saw half of those because I skipped the BORING parts.
This was difficult to narrow down, I changed drama several times. These are movies I can, and do, watch over and over-
Action- Patriot Games
Adventure- National Treasure
Animation- Toy Story
Comedy- So I Married An Axe Murderer
Drama- Home For the Holidays
Fantasy- Labyrinth
Horror- Shaun of the Dead
Musical- Grease
Romance- Sense and Sensibility
Sci-Fi- Independence Day
Sport- Bring It On
Thriller- Children of Men
War- Memphis Belle
Western- Back to the Future Pt 3
Movies I like too much not to mention:
Drama/Comedy-
The Breakfast Club (and just about all Hughes movies)
The American President
The Big Chill
Little Women
Longtime Companion
The Ice Storm
Beautiful Girls
Office Space
Stealing Home
Dave
One Fine Day
Big Night
The Thomas Crown Affair
PCU
The Rock
Everything is Illuminated
Same Time, Next Year
The Parent Trap
Little Children
Sci-fi/Fantasy-
Harry Potter movies
Jurassic Park
The Princess Bride
Star Trek: First Contact
Galaxy Quest
Serenity
Groundhog Day
12 Monkeys
War of the Worlds
T2
Yeah, I might have to do so too. What a great freakin’ movie.
