Just wondering, the Hayley Mills (1961) version or the Lindsay Lohan (1998) version?
I enjoy your list o’ flix.
Cheers

I meant the original, but I don’t mind the Lohan version. Glad you enjoyed my list!
Action - Raiders of the Lost Ark
Adventure - Brazil
Today my picks would be:
Animation - The Iron Giant
Comedy - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Drama - Cinema Paradiso
Fantasy - Amelie
Horror - The Shining
Musical - Once
Romance - Wings of Desire
Sci-Fi - Star Wars
Sport - Breaking Away
Thriller - Blue Velvet
War - The Great Escape
Western - Once Upon A Time in the West
Tomorrow, who knows.
So I mentioned this thread to my brothers over the Easter weekend and they insisted on guessing my list. They did surprisingly well getting the majority in just a few guesses, some in just one. An interesting test for how well others know you. Or maybe how much you talk about yourself?
Ok, after a bit of consideration, here are my picks:
EDITED
Action: Kill Bill Vol. 1
Adventure: Pulp Fiction
Animation: The Incredibles (alone for the Michael Giacchino soundtrack)
Comedy: Meet the Fockers
Drama: Fight Club
Fantasy: The Return of the King
Horror: Shaun of the Dead
Musical: Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog (only one choice there!)
Romance: Cruel Intentions (I hope that counts as Romance, cause I’m not into that Genre, otherwise Keinohrhasen)
Sci-Fi: Inception (sorry Star Wars Trilogy, but I need a movie where I can’t quote so many lines)
Sport: Mighty Ducks (only cause it is the 1st movie that pops into my mind)
Thriller: Con Air
War: Inglorious Basterds (it is a long one and with some humor. plus I understand all the German talking parts should the subtitles fail)
Western: a Bud Spencer/Terence Hill Italo-Western (watched them endlessly as a kid)
Two ones I have on my harddrive and need to find the time to watch.
Hehehe, I also have a few Quentin Tarantino movies in my list.
those are great movies … the bar scene alone from “My Name is Nobody” still stands up well.
cheers.
Looks like we’re getting to the point where fewer people are reading the OP. Folks are becoming unaware of the 4 hr limit per movie/category.
Ha, great to see that some others here also know these Buddie movies. I’m still so familiar with his German voice so that hearing him speak English sounds so funny. If anyone is interested or capable of German, just found this user has uploaded many of the Hill/Spencer movies: http://www.youtube.com/user/littleodessa89#g/u The scene above in German is at the 44 min mark at
I still remember this scene vividly:
I just watched this on Instant Watch. Thank you for pointing it out. Great movie. What an interesting mentor dynamic!
haha, thanks for those movie links. I had forgotten the Bud Spenser signature “head smash with fist” move entirely.
My older brother would use that on me often in our youth
cheers.
I’ve put some thought lately into changing one of my selections with Real Steel. I’m not quite sure what category it would go into though. Any suggestions? I still wouldn’t change it up with Miracle for the Sport category if that’s where it goes.
Also, the more I think about it I might be convinced to change my scifi category from 2010 to Tron: Legacy.
Finally, since I put this together I’d have to add to my Honorable Mentions list: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (SciFi) and Paul (Comedy).

A thread on my SWTOR’s guild forum reminded me of this thread. Was nice to re-read.
Playing with the rules a little bit to sneak a trilogy in there.
Action – Conan The Barbarian (1982)
Animation – Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
Comedy – The Marx Brothers: Animal Crackers
Drama – Glory
Fantasy – The Princess Bride
Horror – Shaun of the Dead
Musical – If possible a recording of “Wicked”
Romance – Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly
Sport – Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
Thriller – Terminator 2: Judgment Day
War – 300
Sci-Fi – Back to the Future
Adventure – Back To the Future 2
Western – Back to the Future 3
Note I have added Heist movies to the master category list by popular demand.
My selection? If I were being rude I would say the first 15 minutes and last 15 minutes of the new Thomas Crowne Affair (as the middle was CRAAAAAAAAAP) but the one I can rewatch a thousand times is the new Ocean’s 11.
Does Sneakers count as a Heist movie? Definitely Sneakers for me.
Solai,
I’m going to have to go out of my own box here. After previously considering Heist movies such as Oceans 11, The Italian Job, Rain Man, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Girl Next Door, Maverick, The Great Muppet Caper, Maverick, and The Train Robbers I’m going off my past-self’s page and instead inserting…
wait for it…
The Hunt For Red October.
So to recap my Space Voyage iPad would have the following list:
Action: Lethal Weapon
Adventure: Raiders of The Lost Ark
Animation: Titan AE
Comedy: Ghostbusters
Drama: Erin Brockovich
Fantasy: Lord Of The Rings (Fellowship Of The Ring)
Horror: Aliens
Musical: The Muppet Movie
Romance: For Love Of The Game
Sci-Fi: Tron Legacy
Sport: Miracle
Thriller: The Firm
War: Saving Private Ryan
Western: El Dorado
Heist: The Hunt For Red October
I have to say I’m still having trouble coming up with good thrillers.

Little Shootette tonight: “Dad, what’s your favorite movie?”
Me: “Back To The Future, Tron Legacy, or …[frantically looking up this post]… RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.”
Saved by the forum again!

You can’t choose just one. I certainly can’t. That’s why I’ve never made a list for this thread, but I do enjoy reading it.
