So what is Starbuck anyway??

My first post (yay!)

If Ellen is the fifth cylon, then that makes Kara…?

The first “reborn” human.

The Cylon deity?

Awesome?

Dangerous… especially to Felix

Well, at my house Starbuck is a cocker spaniel.

I think she is actually Aurora, and she is being used by the gods of Kobol.

Welcome and starting a thread on your first post. Great job. I wonder if the present Starbuck is the first one or the second version. Her ship was the signal they followed to the planet so the circular logic hurts my head.

Welcome aboard. And thank you for living up to the tradition of great first posts.

But to (not) answer your question… I have no frakin’ idea. I’m just going to ride this for now…

That’s my theory.

Unknown is whether Kara is an incarnation of Aurora, Aurora’s servant like Head Six sometimes purports to be of the Cylon God, or if Kara is the reincarnation of the mortal human who became known as Aurora. Also, Aurora could be a role that Kara is fulfilling.

I’d agree that she’s Aurora… but she might also be the “Dying Leader” that the Pythia Scrolls refer to. Charbuck 1.0 was found on “erf.” Starbuck 2.0 lead the fleet to “erf.”

I like the idea of Starbuck being the “dying leader”, but didn’t the scrolls say that the dying leader would not make it to earth? If she was found on erf, then either it is not the earth of the prophesies, or she cant be the leader ~ she’s been twice!

Isnt it obvious?
Shes the Jesus of this cycle.

Baltar’s Jesusness was just a red herring.

Or Baltar is John the baptist. Laying the foundation for Christ. Oh are they playing with us here.

Not that this would happen but was mentioned in another thread that the claxon call from BSG old was heard during the reveal of ellen as the fifth. I know that he has said he would never do it but money talks. I could see Dirk Benedict coming on the last show and have Kara say Father! Talk about flooring everyone.

Sometimes - even on this show - things probably are as simple as they seem. For example, if Roslin is not “a” dying leader, what is she? And, if she isn’t “the” dying leader - how many dying leaders can one plot line handle? I mean, clearly the “earth” of the prophecies is not the gray Cylon Earth just found by The Fleet, but some sort of an inhabitable new “home”.

As for the Jesus, John the Baptist, etc. ideas - I respectfully (I mean that sincerely) disagree. That’s way too much Christianity for a show that is so ambiguous (thank the gods) when it comes to religion.

Also, the particulars don’t work. I’ll avoid getting into how Starbuck bears virtually no resemblence to the traditional Christian idea of Jesus Christ (because every time I get into this area, I seem to end up pissing off a bunch of folks that I like). However, on the less controversial JtheB side - let’s go with the plot. When things got rough for John out there in the wildernes or when he was being held prisoner in a hole in the ground by Herod, he never shook his angry fist at God and demanded that He appear before him (John) to apologize - at least not that we know of.

A. Jeebus!
B. The first Human/Cylon Hybrid, or one of them
C. A clone
D. A resurrected member of the Cylon race from erff
E. The power of mental thinking

True, but I think we can’t forget that it’s based on a show that takes a lot from its creator’s Mormonism, which in my (admittedly not Mormon) understanding has the same structure re: John the Baptist, Jesus etc. That isn’t to mean that this isn’t the only interpretation to give events - but it is a possibility and I don’t think we can rule it out just because it comes from one religion or another. It’s like the argument for why we should study the Bible as literature - it has had a huge impact, conscious or not, on artistic production for centuries (if not millennia).

It kind of reminds me of all of the theories I was reading about Harry Potter before book seven came out, with all of this really detailed research into different religions from all over the place, when in fact
Harry’s a pretty clear Christ figure, which I love love love because of the whole ‘controversy’ about Harry Potter being Satanic or whatnot.
In the end, it’s about interpretation and symbolic meaning, and religion can be a pretty interesting context for that.

2 things

First Kara is the Harbinger of death, she will lead them all to their end.

I believe this means one of 2 things. She is either the catalyst who brings about the end of this cycle & starts the beginning of the next.

OR

She is the end of the cycles, period.

As usual, the prophecy is tantalizingly unclear enough to make it fit almost anything, but those 2 things I am sure of. Which means they’re probably wrong, but hey. shrug

I also think Roslin being the dying leader is still not final. Remember as well, the dying leader leads them to the promised land but will not enter it. The prophecy does not specifically state “Earth” it’s just been assumed it’s what it means. I’m pretty sure at this point that it doesn’t mean Earth at all.

I’ve been thinking lately that another potential candidate for dying leader could be Natalie because there was some sense of special signifcance in the way she was shown to be dying and her presence, interestingly enough next to Laura, in the last supper photo. Then again, was her death too sudden? How long does the dying leader have to be in the act of dying in order to qualify?
