There’s hardly ever any traffic on the Smallville roads. d:
Episode 311 - Delete
Is this our first time seeing the inside of the Daily Planet building?
Lois is Chloe’s cousin? Guess that’s where Chloe got the over-inquisitive gene.
Clark tried to kill Chloe? Great teaser ending.
“Your family sure has a way of going through vehicles.”
Harsh but fair comment from Chloe about Clark over the season break.
Mind control via computer? Scary.
Nice punch from Chloe there.
Great fight scene, but the gratuitous girls’ locker room at the end detracted from it a bit.
Adam sure seems to know a lot about a lot of stuff. Did they say where he’s from? My guess is Gotham City.
Summerholt? Oh crap.
You’d think Chloe wouldn’t want to be walking around the school alone after dark given that two of her best friends were brainwashed to try killing her.
Ouch, pencil in the ear can’t be a pleasant way to go. But wouldn’t the pencil need to be in further to kill the guy?
“Crazy ninja girls and all?”
Nice assist from Lex.
So, did the Kents have kryptonite because they knew Clark would show up, was it just a precaution, or were they supposed to go for Clark?
Lex gave the guy a morality lesson? Was about to say hell froze over, but then he turned around and blackmailed the guy.
Fun episode. Not the best of the season so far, but right up there.
i know… it was not necessary! yet i enjoyed it so much…
i love the next episode by the way.
Episode 312 - Hereafter
Haven’t seen the stadium since season 1, have we?
“Always in motion is the future.” Especially when Kryptonians are involved.
Superman cape!!
“Smallville High is rarely that exciting.” Yeah, that was pretty boring compared to normal days.
I suppose public school really isn’t the best option for Jordan if he can’t control his flashes. And that must be a really crappy power to have.
Damn, and I thought I thrashed around in my sleep.
Wouldn’t Clark be able to provide Jordan with a cast iron alibi?
Adam and Lex? That’s a bit scary, even if my wild sorryBarb guess from last episode is true.
Lex is right, things seem a bit too pat in Adam’s past. I’d expect him to be a bit more clever than that.
Lana’s had a rough few episodes. Starting with her leg, then brainwashed to try killing her best friend, and now kidnapped and almost burned to death.
Nice parallel between Jordan and Clark. I bet that was the whole point of the episode.
Wouldn’t the punch have caused Jordan to flash? That would have told them who the attacker was.
Jordan, stay behind. You’ll just be slowing Clark down.
No one ever stays in the car, do they? Jordan doesn’t even have the excuse of it not being safe.
Super breath sure would have been convenient there.
Jordan’s near death experience took away his power? Nice symmetry I suppose.
Wow, bit of a downer ending, especially since the whole episode was about death.
This was an OK episode. Not spectacular, but it advanced quite a few plots.
it was downer but i really loved the interaction b etween Jordan and Clark. also… no staying in car is a very Chuck moment.
Episode 313 - Velocity
Heart attack? Clark said his theory just after I came up with the same idea.
Wouldn’t the crowd of cars on the road at that time of night drawn police attention?
Pete? Wouldn’t have guessed that.
Kryptonite booster? Is there anything kryptonite can’t do?
“Clark, you’re not exactly one to talk about breaking the speed limit.”
Almost sounded like Pete was going to blackmail Clark.
Chad Nash? Guess that blows my theory out of the water.
“Privacy laws don’t seem to faze you much, do they?” You’re just figuring that out now, Lex? I thought you were smarter than that.
Wait, odd platelets? Who ended up with Clark’s blood?
I suppose I can appreciate where Pete’s coming from, but still.
Is the kryptonite booster lead lined? I’m surprised it isn’t having any effect on Clark.
Asking Pete to throw a race just a few hours after that argument with Clark? Yeah, that’s going to work.
I’m surprised Clark was so quick to go into Dante’s barn, considering he knows there’s kryptonite in there.
“More Grand Theft Auto than Indy 500”
Sibling rivalry theory isn’t bad, Chloe.
“Your information is about as accurate as the local weatherman.” I didn’t like the sheriff much at first, but I’m starting to warm up to her a bit.
“Go Kal on an ATM”
Jonathan likes westerns? I can see that. Of course, if this was Stargate, they’d probably say Lex got him Dukes of Hazzard.
Oh crap, kryptonite injector’s in the trunk.
Huh, guess there wasn’t as much kryptonite in there as I thought. That’s probably why Clark didn’t have a problem when he stopped Pete.
Nasty accident. Surprised Clark’s taking the death as hard as he is. It’s not the first time he’s accidentally caused someone to die.
I thought Lex would figure out that Clark borrowed his car from the odometer.
I suppose something like this was due, since Pete is the only one of Clark’s school friends he hasn’t had a major problem with. I found the B plot a bit more interesting than the A plot, but even so, this was probably in the bottom half of the season so far for me.
EDIT: One thing I just thought of. Pete’s mom is a judge, so I don’t think he’d be as casual about breaking the law as he was in this episode.
Kryptonite probably doesn’t do anything for the hangover
well, unfortunately having a judge for a mom doesn’t seem to have much positive effects on Pete.
Yeah, whenever someone on TV tells someone else to stay in the car, I almost reflexively drop the “It’s never safe in the car” line. Did you notice that I also called his premonitions “flashes”.
LOL, yeah, who says super powers only comes from meteor rocks.
Episode 314 - Obsession
Bending rules is a prerequisite for success? Well, maybe if you’re a Luthor.
“Elevators. Too much demand, not enough supply.”
Wow, only two people in the second group? That doesn’t make much sense.
I wonder, did Lionel intend for Clark and Chloe to be the only two people in that elevator when it “malfunctioned”?
Yeah, Clark. It can’t be a blanket everything she touches, or the elevator would have jumped too. And that would have been a bit tough to explain.
“Everything’s pretty much connected to the meteor shower.” Clark’s getting really good at evading those kind of questions, even when people know part of his secret.
Clark’s acting a bit more awkward than usual.
They’ve really managed some nice camera tricks to sell her teleport ability.
She’s getting a bit stalkerish. Taking that awkward almost-kiss as an invitation to a full on make out session.
Predictable interruption there. Only real question was which parent would be the one to open the door.
“What did she do, climb out the window?”
“Actually, she teleported out.”
“You’re going to have to run that by me again.”
And now, you told her about the meteor rocks, Jonathan. If you’d called it kryptonite, she wouldn’t have known what you were talking about and it probably would save Clark some trouble later.
OK, now I’m really starting to think she’s nuts.
You know, Clark, after last season, Lex probably isn’t the best person to go to for relationship advice.
He fell down the stairs? Of what, LuthorCorp tower? Yep, she’s a psychopath.
Why did it take so long for her kryptonite to affect Clark? She wouldn’t have known about keeping it in lead until she was ready to use it.
The positioning of that paint can was rather convenient.
Nice solution to keeping her from teleporting.
You know, if Alicia hadn’t moved so fast, their relationship might have worked out. She only went psycho when Clark tried to keep things to a more reasonable pace.
Adam was one of Lionel’s plots? Nice, even though it conclusively blew my theory out of the water.
Pretty good episode. Definite freak of the week, but one of the better ones. Honestly, I think I would have appreciated a multi-episode arc for Alicia more than the Adam arc, and not just for the superficial aspects
i love Alicia. that is a pretty good episode. it was really great to see Clark comfortable with someone like that, too bad it had to end that way. i think they’ve firmly established that exposure to kryptonite makes humans a bit coo coo.
Well…
There are exceptions…
But yeah, I like her character too.
Don’t think you needed to spoiler that since we just had an example of a sane meteor freak a few episodes ago (Jordan Cross). I think the worst of the bunch are the ones who are completely sane but exploit their powers for their own personal gain (Desire is the first that comes to mind).
Before I get into the next episode, I’m going to clarify that I write notes in a notebook as I watch the episode, so this is more a stream of consciousness than actual reviews. The reason I’m saying this now is because quite a few of the things I’m going to post were answered later in the episode.
Episode 315 - Resurrection
“I always thought my dad was a man of steel.”
So, is that guy an organ harvester or was Garrett’s brother a meteor freak?
Guest star - James Kirk
And HELO!
Adam “died” of the same disease? Is the serum specific to people who died of that disease or did they somehow cause it in order to get test subjects?
Wouldn’t the misuse of the medevac to take Clark to Metron be almost as bad as using it to take Helo’s body there? And how could they take off without anyone noticing?
“Can’t you just send me to the principal instead?”
Smooth, Clark.
Helo used kryptonite bombs? Wonder how they compare to naquida bombs.
Even Sheriff Obnoxious thought Clark did a good job negotiating with Garrett there.
“You have a bomb strapped to your chest. I’d just prefer to keep my distance.”
Oh crap, the kryptonite nullified the serum.
Nice time-stop effect on Clark making the save. And with an X-ray vest to keep the kryptonite from slowing him down. Nice.
Why is Lex asking Lana where Adam is when he knows more than she does?
Is Lex hitting on Lana? Don’t tell me Lana going back to Clark is what turns Lex into a supervillain.
Pretty good episode, even though it was a bit dark. Got to feel a bit sorry for Garrett even though he went way over the edge to try saving his brother.
I just thought of something random. It seems like Clark has a harder time keeping his secret than Chuck did (before everyone but the BuyMorons found out). At first, that seemed a bit weird, but I think I have it figured out. On Chuck, the other primary characters (Sarah & Casey) knew about it and he was keeping the secret from the secondary characters. On the other hand, at this point, the only regulars who know Clark’s secret are secondary characters, while he’s having to struggle to avoid telling the other primary characters (especially Lana). Chuck probably had just as hard a time keeping his secret, but Smallville focuses on that conflict more.
Ended up going double feature tonight after all.
Episode 316 - Crisis
Now that was an awesome teaser.
“Unless Miss Lang has grown several inches and developed an affinity for plaid, this would be a good time to pipe down.”
“If I had the answer to half the whys in this town, I’d have a bestseller on my hands.”
Double
Nice detective work from the kids there. Of course, they could have just gone across town and asked Sam Carter
The Lex/Clark friendship is a bit strained here.
You wanted the project? It’s yours." Lionel is such a slimy bastard (in a good way)
“‘Can you hear me 24 hours from now’ theory”
“Or a really different time zone.”
Everyone’s dropping great one-liners this episode.
“Well, Clark, we have an excellent psychiatric staff here at the hospital. I’d be happy to take you down to the admitting desk.”
Lionel planted the vials at the mansion, didn’t he? Well, Lex, it could be worse. The cops could have opened your shrine to Clark when he was around to see it.
Wow, that scene at the storage unit was pretty disturbing.
Awesome effect with the bullet time in the rainstorm.
Oh, I guess I was right about them targeting that liver condition. Lionel has it. That was unexpected.
“Maybe it had something to do with that weird time anomaly.” Smooth, Clark.
Suicide doesn’t really seem like Lionel’s style. At least not something as mundane as blowing his brains out.
This was a really good tense episode. Despite what I said last night about preferring a multi-episode arc for Alicia to the Adam one, this was a great payoff to the Adam story. I’d say this was in the top 2-3 for the season so far.
yay, young Helo is awesome. now go join the colonial fleet!
You’d think since lead can protect Superman from Kryptonite that he would just line his entire suit with it. I mean a few tons of lead isn’t going to slow him down. But no, superman just wants to wear his tights and flaunt his body at everyone.
oh lexanna, is there anything you can’t do…
yeah, i miss Lionel… he was also in an episode of DS9… where he also played a great bastard. DS9 should have made him an Cardassian and have him play off Gul Dukat. Those two actors probably are in the world at playing slimy bastards that i love.
Was it established in the comics that lead blocked kryptonite, or is that just in Smallville? Only reference to lead I remember in the movies is it blocking X-ray vision.
according to wikipedia
in the 1971 storyline, virtually all kryptonite is destroyed. The remaining fragments are wrapped in lead and hurled into the sun by Superman himself
Episode 317 - Legacy
It’s been what, 2-3 weeks since Jonathan’s surgery and he’s doing work on a barn roof? For something as unimportant as a weather vane? He’s really not doing a good job of taking it easy.
And now he called Clark Kal-El. Looks like a heavy mythology episode.
Wow, the key is acting completely different this time. It didn’t go into the wall.
How would Lionel know anything about a son’s love for his father? Not from experience, clearly.
“Special Appearance by Christopher Reeve”
“They say mental illness is hereditary.” Well played, Lex.
How did the FBI find the connection between Clark and Swann?
Lionel/Swann scene? That’s a bit scary.
“You don’t need me, you need a locksmith.”
Wow, that was a really destructive search. Are they really FBI agents?
Awesome Clark/Jonathan scene at the graveyard.
Is Lex trying to sabotage the Clark/Lana relationship?
I just noticed that most of the scenes this episode haven’t had the best lighting. Trying to set an ominous mood?
Lex, counting you, aren’t there 3 billionaires interested in Clark?
Swann seems rather well informed. How’d he get the information about the explosion and Clark’s self-imposed exile?
“If you’d raised your son the way I raised mine, maybe you wouldn’t have to protect him.” That’s priceless coming from Lionel. A bit of truth to it, but not much.
Red and blue flashing light in the fight scene. And now yellow from the key. Nice touch.
Swann has the key? WTF? How did that happen? And more importantly, why did it go to him?
Not as big as the other Christopher Reeve episode, but it seems almost as important. It seems like they’re starting to put pieces into place for the season finale. I think the problem is that, while they were both exposition heavy episodes, Clark could only find out about his origin once, and him learning that was what made Rosetta so special.
oh, smallville is so good around these episodes. lex just wants to be clark i think.
