Keep it Cavil? Alright where’s Simon and his dentist drill we got some dissectin to do
It was not the the fact that the Colonies are in the same system, it is the fact that even this small detail is something just tossed out rather than deal with it.
Let me explain a thing or two. Star Wars was great. Lucas had a star in his hands then the prequels came out and everything that the fans believed got ripped apart. Why? Because the fans had a certain ideal about his Universe.
Now lets talk about BSG. As a Fan we where led to believe that the Cylons had a plan, it said it on day one. We followed the clues, we looked for the signs, heck many of us devoted countless hours debating the story plot points. Then Season 4 come around and we are let into a secret, there has never been a plan, and I don’t mean a Cylon plan. The show was written with the only glue holding it together coming from a meeting about what do we do this week. That means that any and all clues that we thought where being left, weren’t clues at all. Ok you know what I can deal with that, they said they checked and made sure that the plots being introduced fit into the story, so I was OK with that. Then season 4.5 hit and we got a few details but somewhere something went wrong. Where was the reason for the temple of Five or the Cave on Kobal, how about Cally being spaced, did that mean nothing? Ok what about that silly Cylon killing prob, or head six walking around on the Battlestar right after Gauis told his head six off. Oh wait there is more but I don’t think I need to mention any more. You see I am upset because I feel like they had a chance to tell a great story and then coped out on us.
If they couldn’t even be bothered with establishing a back story to how the Colonies where laid out why they where so, goes a long way to explain why so much is being left unfinished now. I keep hearing people say that they are Ok with the show not being tied up into a nice bow and i have to ask why? You deserve the story ending complete you deserve that, don’t you? You devoted hours of your life to this show and now in the finale hour you are being told all that other stuff is meaningless. It is Ok, “it is all about the characters, stupid” we made a lot of mistakes like not planing out a story arc and not figuring out the reasons why things where the way they where. But that is OK “its all about the characters. Stupid”. I feel rightfully so, cheated. i
Do you want to know why 12 colonies in one solar system bothers me? It means you didn’t care enough about the details. The details make a great story (Babylon 5), the lack of details make a horrible story (Star Wars, Prequels).
I guess to answer that, I am giving it hope. Just like my tag line says “there is hope for you yet.”
Actually it’s quite interesting.
I loved the episode and thot it was well-crafted and well-executed. But that’s the thing about art, it’s subjective. Some people don’t get ‘Casablanca’ or ‘Star Wars’ or even Shakespeare. Some read poetry or look at a masterpiece and just shake their heads. That’s the point, it’s supposed to initiate a response. It’s supposed to engage the mind. It’s supposed to get under your skin.
I don’t feel cheated. This episode and the whole lot of 4.5 have stayed true to the tone, style, and performance of the prior seasons. If not, even upped the ante a bit.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you loved it, great. If you hated it, great. The emotional outburst is what makes it wonderful. I’ve been here before with finales from other TV shows and much anticipated movies. What it comes down to is feeling unsatisfied, which rests in how you approach it. If you expect something from it, be it answers or what you think the answers should be, I can tell you right now. You’re gonna be disappointed. If you embrace the characters and their journey and the pain they’ve suffered, you’re gonna love it.
I feel like you said everything I wanted to but didn’t know how…
Your rock my friend.
Some day soon I hope to take you up on that drink ya owe me. It can’t be a beer though. At least not for a few years.
trolling?
Enough said. Next week the show will either make or break itself. Either way, just like the Harry Potter fans, when the lady with gland issues sings many of us will get up and leave the theater, the credits will roll and the end game will be played out by whom ever is left.
I am, after all, just a Fan who has been let down.
So with that “Good morning, good evening and good night.”
Hugs to you all
the show has always been about the plot AND the characters. thats how good shows do it, they don’t overly focus on one side of it,which is what BSG is doing right now.
It’s. Not. The. Point.
Hell even if it was the point you can find details about the system. From the RPG Core Rules book:
"The Twelve Colony worlds spun around a single star on elliptical orbits. Closest to the sun was sweltering, volcanic Canceron, the greatest source of tylium in the system. Next came a Trojan orbit of planets–three worlds following the same orbital path, separated by roughly the same distance (one-sixth the orbit’s diameter). In order these planets were Aquaria, Caprica, and Virgon. They were the centers of art, culture, and system-wide trade.
Two gas giants followed, each in it’s own elliptical path and each itself orbited by a number of moons. The first of these behemoths was Zeus, named after the king of the gods, and it’s moons were Leonis, Picon, and Scorpia. Another large planet named Aerelon shared Zeus’ orbit, positioned exactly opposite the giant. The second gas giant was Hera and her charges were Gemenon and Libris, with Sagittaron likewise spinning opposite. These two giants and their moons were the heart of the system. This real estate was the most heavily contested during the colonies’ many civil wars.
At the outermost edge of the system dwelled Tauron, followed by a third gas giant named Ragnar. Tauron was the first world settled after the fall of Kobol. It was the springboard for all expansion in the system. It’s people were also responsible for the Cylons’ spark of life. Not something to be proud of these days."
Now where exactly would you have liked them to work that info into the show?
While i understand where you are coming from the whole reason I like BSG is becasue they don’t spend time on stuff like that. I don’t care that there are 12 earth like worlds in one system just like I don’t care about how the FTL works.
BSG has been and never would have been like DS9 or Trek.
It’s something far better. It’s art. At least I think so…
But to each there own I guess…
Want to know the truth behind the Lords of Kobol I can tell it to you…
I am a Lord of Kobol…you have been smote…
LOL!!
I love this place.
I figured this thread needed a little lightening up…its getting a bit hot in here (and not in the good gutter kinda way)
When did you go from the geata to boomer hate club?
Where’s the loyalness man!?
(Yes I just made up a word)
When Gaeta took a bullet…no need to hate a corpse…
When/If Boomer dies ill take her name off as well
Speaking of the Gutter…
Feeling disappointed?
Being cheated on?
Try Ginkgo! It can rejuvenate your juices. Swallow Ginseng and feel revived. Guzzle Maca and hammer a six-inch Pike (see what I did there?) through a board with your penis.
But by all means stay away from Horny goat weed. Trust me on this.
hehe you said Juices…oh and penis…i guess that is funny as well
EDIt…AND WHY THE HELL DID IT TAKE 143 posts for this thread to go to the gutter…i am disappointed
Hide the kids…
Talos has been let free.
Wow. That was bit intense.
I’m not entirely pleased with Daybreak P1, but I’ve pretty much decided to hold my tongue. I am concerned for the outcome, and I hope the plot mysteries that have kept me watching will be uncovered… but it’s not fair to make a decision till all of it is on the table. So I’ll patiently wait for the end.
yeah, but hes still got a point. they have been doing silly things instead of advancing the plot. Aside from that anders bit, not much has been revealed. I understand how The Plan/last episode could do that, but not in a timeframe that it feels “right”. Rosiln needs to be dead.
or maby im just enabling the trolls:D
