Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Just watched them all. They are pretty sweet. I am so excited for this movie to come out. I just read book 6 last night and it makes me even more excited for the movie. This is one i might have to take the next day off from work so i can rewatch it over the next few days.

Lucky for me I already have that Friday off so I plan on seeing it early that day - unless I decide to go to a midnight screening the previous evening.

The remixes were great - especially “Love”.

Oh I am going to the Midnight release. As it turns out I am taking that Friday off anyway and going to Orlando.

It looks pretty good. I’ll go and see it when it’s out. I haven’t watched the trailers, but will Michael Cera be playing George Michael Bluth like he does in every single movie he’s been in?

I’ve managed somehow to not have seen a single one of his earlier movies, so I’ve no worries about him. He seems to be doing a pretty good Scott Pilgrim.

First of all, watch Arrested Development. It’s fantastic. I understand the person who played Ann in Arrested Development is in this movie as well. I’m really hoping for a “Her?” moment.

HER?

It’s as Ann as the nose on Plain’s face

Saw it. It was awesomesauce. sighs in relief

Casting was near perfect. I still think Knives is a bit too old (a decade to old, according to IMBD) but she does fangirl really well, so I can see why they went with her.

All those guys (raises hand) who thought Kim Pine should’ve been the female lead are not going to be disappointed with Allison Pill. I expect posters to be sold. And Wallace works equally well (heh.)

One beef, though:
Knives’ final scene with Scott was lame. Eye-rolling lame. Pretty in Pink lame.
I just saw it and holy crap…too amazon to get the graphic novels!

Oh, it’s perfect for Sex Bob-omb. They suuuuuck.

Awesomesauce, indeed.

Actually, I did a bad thing. I convinced my non-geek friends to come see SP with the g/f and I last night. Then the g/f got called in to work. So I told her we changed our plans and just hung out. But we saw Scott Pilgrim! Now I have to see it (again/for the first time) with her later this week, so it’s good that I liked it.

Casting: I think they couldn’t go too young with Knives for reasons that Sean would be happy to expound upon at length, Pike. MPAA frowns upon visually obvious May-August teen relationships. Unless we’re talking about Harold and Maude, of course.

Allison Pill was awesome as Kim Pine. She’s the girl I would have had a crush on, not Ramona. Girl drummers? Swoon.

I also loved Wallace’s skillz with the straight boys. “Not again!” That was fantastic.

The guy who identified Ramona based on the scribbled drawing was the best minor character with the one-liners. “Oh, yeah, but the comic is way better than the movie.”

The movie definitely was an homage to the geek culture of the 80s and 90s. I like that the movie did things to represent those influences that are not possible in comic format–like the amazing fight choreo!

Stacy Pilgrim was was the hottest girl in the movie but i dunno the weirdly colored hair and attitude puts Ramona over her hands down.

The attitude? Huh. I found her aloofness/inability to engage with others to be very realistic for a 22 year old, yet unappealing.

I’d say the same about Kim Pine, except it was totally appealing.

Well being 21 I must be used to it.

Plus you gotta respect a chick who doesn’t shriek and cover herself when you walk in on her changing. You know on reflex.

Saw it Friday afternoon and LOVED it. I can easily see going to see it again (which I rarely do) and of course watching it multiple times when the DVD comes out.

Being a fanboy and, at times, a gamer I wonder how the non-fanboy/gamer crowd will see the movie. It’s disappointing to hear that it didn’t do so well at the box office. I’m hoping that word of mouth and positive reviews will lead to a better outcome next weekend, but that’s probably being too optimistic…

The chip on her shoulder was endearing and attractive

I suspect that a lot of people will wait to see what their friends think because they aren’t gamers. I saw it with 2 non-geeks who liked it. I think if you were born in the 80s you can’t help having absorbed the cultural milieu from which SP was born.

I haven’t read any posts in this thread so I won’t be spoiled, but Scott Pilgrim won’t be coming to HK …til NOVEMBER. Ridiculous. And I don’t want to download it either since I have a feeling this movie would look great on a big screen.

ANNOYED.

I think Ramona earned the right to be disconnected as each of her exes actually is worst than the last. This makes her relationship with Scott more believable because we can understand what she sees in him that we don’t see in the exes, most notably actual interest in her as a human being. Or perhaps in the hightened sense of recollecting all of our exes, no matter the outcome, we seem to idolize some part of them, even the worst aspects.

I haven’t read the graphic novel but intend to at some time later this year. I loved this movie so much I want to see it again even though there are other movies I still haven’t gotten around to see. If anything, this is definately on my Christmas list.
