Eversince the BOOB 'Cast I’ve been thinking about sci-fi babes. Okay maybe more than thinking but I won’t get into that. A-N-Y-W-H-O, the origins of the sci-fi babe goes back to the pulp mags of the 50s when the predominate readership were pubescent males. Throughout the decades the sci-fi babe has remained.
Is it sexist or not? IMO, no. (Besides, “what’s wrong with being sexy?”) The sci-fi babe is almost always intelligent and capable. She is not just eye candy. BSG is no exception, hence Six, Boomer, et al. Sci-fi babes are complex and diverse. “Enough of my yappin’. Let’s boogie!”
Here is a list of my favorites. Chime in.
From Film:
Linda Harrison - Nova - Planet of the Apes
Carrie Fisher - Slave Leia - Return of the Jedi
Mathilda May - Space Vampire - Lifeforce
Sigourney Weaver - Gwen DeMarco - Galaxy Quest (Oh yeah and that other film)
Carrie Anne Moss - Trinity - The Matrix
Scarlett Johansson - Jordan Two Delta - The Island
Megan Fox - Mikaela Banes - Transformers
From TV Series:
Barbara Luna - Marlena Moreau - ‘Mirror, Mirror’ Star Trek
