Myself and a friend are totally looking to mooch a place and/or split costs this year on our annual trip to the Con. (We thought we had a timeshare arranged this year but got bumped). Any Area GWCers or Con Attendees have any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions on this subject it would be greatly appreciated.
That park’s nice and it’s warm there. =P jk
Get your hotel as soon as ya can! Hell I live here and there is talk of moving my duty day to a new duty section (navy) and if they do I miss the ONLY day I could get to go…the last day.
looks like I will get the last day for sure, might get the first too. I’m excited
Audra and I will be there and are really, really looking forward to it!
Wish I was as cool as you guys this year =/
I really wanted to go this year but unfortunately my family reunion (which only happens every 5 years) starts that weekend.
I just noticed video games live is going to be here that Saturday night…must book ticket…
Looks like we may be able to get pre-paid parking at the con this year.
I couldn’t find out if it guarantees you the space if you arrive later in the day. The disclaimer wasn’t very reassuring, though I’m tempted to go ahead and buy it anyway.
If it’s true you can arrive later than O-dark-thirty, I’m in!
What sucks for me is that I only got tickets on 2 days since I thought I would be underway. But now it looks like I will get to do the last and first day. I mean thats something but the whole thing would have been much cooler. Least I can walk and don’t have to park.
Always get the 4 day! Worth it in the end, under-weigh, or not!
Well at the time I didn’t know there was a military discount and it would have only cost me 50 for the entire weekend!
BKitty was just telling me that on one night they have a blood drive, and if you lay your sBarb down and donate you are rewarded with some extremely cool swag afterwards. So stock up on OJ and cookies, and give!
All weekend actually, I fully meant to last year but I just got distracted by panels and stuff =/
Cool I should be able to give blood, I’m only going to the actual thing Thursday (work schedule permitting) and for sure on Sunday. Saturday I’m thinking of going to the Bare naked Ladies Concert (shutup!). Sadly I have no pass for Friday or Saturday.
I’ll give blood, but in the past my blood pressure has been too low for them to do it. Shocking, I know!
My best advice is simple… COSPLAY. I know it’s not for everybody, but I did it for the first time last year, and it’s been phenomenal. The cosplay community is actually very small and very close. Plus, it’s super entertaining to get home from SDCC and see all these website lists of “hot chicks at comic-con” and think, “oh hey, I know her, and her, and her, and her, and oh hey! I know Power Girl!”
BUT, otherwise my advice is to not eat in the convention center (it’s super expensive and the surrounding area is chock full of great restaurants), carry water, and be prepared to wait in lines. After-parties are great (the costume masquerade’s the best, for shuresies), but a great place to go after the con closes is the local hotel bars. A lot of the con panelists (read: writers, artists, actors, etc.) stay in the hotels close by and drink where they can just fall in an elevator and be in their room. You’ll get the chance to meet a lot of your favorite creators.
I’d also recommend walking around your first day to the major booths (DC, Marvel, etc) and seeing what their schedule is. Exclusive artists and writers will do signings at the publisher’s booth, and so their names may not appear in the Con’s schedule. Last year I was totally bummed that Dan Jurgens wasn’t going to have a table when I saw he wasn’t in the Con schedule, but then found out he was supposed to be at the DC booth for about five hours one day. Wandering around is good times, but having a plan of attack will definitely help you use your time better.
And… COSPLAY.
I am going to Comic Con! Will there be a GWC meetup during that time? It would be pretty cool to see some of you.
See i’m hoping for that Friday night…going to video games live that night.
Just think about BrettAZ’s lost glasses… LOL!
