Here’s the thread for pre-E07 show discussion.
Not seven. Not already. Must. Slow. Down. But don’t want to wait. The horror… The horror…
I’m late to posting my thoughts about the last episodes, I guess there’s no use in posting them in three different frak party threads, so I’ll just write them down here:
Who the frak does Anders think he is? He is a very very junior officer at best and Helo was completely right in relieving Starbuck of her command - not following completely stupid orders does not equal mutiny!
Anders points a gun at fellow officers? Anders SHOOTS AT Gaeta? I’ve lost all respect for him. I DON’T want to be his little brother any more. I would have been fine had Helo ordered the marine guards to take out Anders then and there. Wouldn’t have been anywhere near as great a loss as Cally.
But that’s just me.
Edit: Cylon hangar bay: awesome. Cylon Basestars falling apart: awesome. Cylon basestars looking like they’re made from organic material: awesome, but somewhat old-hattish since Voyager’s bio-mnemetic gel packs.
Baltar on the radio: “the undiscovered country” - awesome Star Trek/Hamlet reference.
Awesome episode so far, will go back to watching it now.
Edit 2: It used to be a lot harder to take out a Centurion and what’s more, it used to be virtually impossible with a few shots from those tiny side arms.
Edit 3: The undiscovered country, the ferry, all metaphors for death and an afterlife. In the words of Chris DeBurgh: Don’t pay the ferryman!
Looks like “Get your hands off of my child” is going to be the new “We’re going the wrong waaaaaaayyyy”
I just thought of something - imagine how scary it would be - to be a cylon with a child - what if the child couldn’t tell the difference between you and the other members of your model?
On the one hand I feel like Anders’ should definately get punished for shooting Felix. But on the other hand - his loyalty to Kara is a bit touching. He was trying to protect her - and lest you forget - Helo and the rest of the crew were committing Mutiny (on the Poo Barge…hehe) so it’s not like they were all in the right either. Cause it turns out Kara was right and Leoben wasn’t lying - and now they have more clues to earth.
So I actually kind of like Anders more than I did before. Cause what he did took balls.
But that’s just me.
But they CAN tell the difference. Hera almost died when her mother wasn’t nearby and none of the other Eights could do anything about it.
One thing that we keep throwing out, the M word, Mutiny. I’m not so sure what Helo, as acting XO, did is mutiny at all. The basis for relieving a leader of command, at least in the sci-fi/spaceship world, has been established before. If the commander is showing real signs of mental breakdown, etc, it’s up to the XO or second in command to relieve him/her and take over. It’s ‘legal’ in that sense…so I wouldn’t expect Starbuck or Helo to really harbor any resentment over the whole thing after their heads clear…Helo did what he thought was right (again!), and Starbuck’s actions were wacky…she even admitted it later, in effect, when she relented and took a raptor instead.
Anders, though…he was dumb as hell in shooting Gaeta, and probably should be punished…but I’m betting that one will slide completely off the screens. He’s lucky the whole bridge didn’t erupt in a firefight !Frakkin’ FF !! Helo was able to keep the Marines and everyone else with a sidearm from blowing each other to kingdom come, TG.
As can be construed from my earlier posts, I’m with you on all points.
Starbuck was mentally unfit for command and the whole crap started in the first place because the Old Man should have put Helo in charge and Starbuck should have held merely an advisory position. Like Gene Roddenberry on TNG.
Anders - I’m done with Anders. What good is he for? Holding the hand of a dying Eight - what the frak?
Not to get all Mrs. Weasley, but… “Not my daughter, you B*tch!”
But yet… she’s the first one to go to Gaeta after he gets shot to help him out, and then she turns totally reasonable in my mind. And stayed reasonable (and like pre-explosion Starbuck) through the rest of the episode, which is cool, but also kind of like, hm so the crazy goes away like poof
Maybe we should move all this to a thread in the BSG discussion part of the boards?
That scene really reminded me of Kara in Flesh and Bone - at the end, right before Leoben is airlocked, they put their hands together on the glass. I mean, WTF?! Doesn’t anyone think this is WAY strange and troubling?! Maybe Anders will have some special affinity for the 8’s. I wouldn’t mind a scene with Helo and Anders making an Athena sandwich…with or without fainting couch…
Hm, yeah, if Anders had slapped her in the face instead of giving in to her sexual urges - IF ONLY ANDERS HAD STOOD UP TO HER AND HAD BEEN A MAN FOR ONE TIME IN HIS MARRIED LIFE INSTEAD OF BEING SO TOTALLY P****-WHIPPED, then maybe Gaeta could keep his leg. Have I mentioned I’m through with Anders?
That is what I call the wrong sort of a threesome…
Best line ever in Harry Potter.
GR I have to agree on this one and I think it’s harking back to ancient Egypt: that life’s final journey is a boat ride to the afterlife. BSG seems to be a mix of ancient Greek and Egyptian religions, and this latest episode really made that link.

In that respect it was almost a good thing Gaeta got it…that seemed to be the point that brought Starbuck back into the real world and thinking like a leader and not like a spoiled paint-splattered wacko. So Gaeta’s loss was the search for Earth’s gain. Granted I’d have preferred another way than shooting a crewmember (I’m sure Gaeta agrees, too).
As a crying baby, Hera WAS able to tell all the 8’s apart from her mother, Athena. It’s just that it seems like Hera is old enough to remember 6 from the shared dreams she’d had with Roslyn/Athena/Caprica.
Don’t worry about Anders, my guess is that once they unbox D’Anna, she’s gonna spot Anders and he’s either going to shoot her the instant she recognizes him or he’s just going to be revealed to everyone as a final 5er.
Now it is a possibility that when D’Anna said she was sorry to one of the final 5ers, she was referring to Anders since she almost killed him in the Caprica rubble that used to be a parking lot right near the cylon coffee shop when trapped with Boomer and Caprica 6, BUT I still think she was really talking to Tigh, since the cylons plucking out his eye is a bit worse than almost killing Anders.
Hey, maybe this means that Gaeta is the dying leader that won’t see the promised land (Earth).
you really think that the d’anna that saw the final five will still be there?..wouldn;t cavil have done something with that particular one…like moved her somewhere else…?
otherwise it seems too simple to give away the identities of the final five…
so i think anders’ identity is safe for now…
I actually believe that when she resurrected the consciousness of that D’Anna became part of the consciousness of all the D’Anna’s that will be resurrected after her, had she not been boxed. Assuming they resurrect at least one D’Anna, she will have that knowledge because it has been downloaded into the collective D’Anna consciousness.

I always thought that had more to do with the fact that they didn’t know how to care for a human child - like she needed to be taken back to Galactica so Cottle could f ix her…
