Rise of the Spambots

Glad to be of service. I despise spam.

<breathes deep>

It has been over a day without a new spambot. Huzzah. Thank you Chuck.

I’ll bet they’ve never faced a podcaster with a positron collider !!

I hope Chuck didn’t cross the audio streams…

Day 2 also seems quiet. I think you guys won!!!

Shh, don’t speak too soon.

They mostly come at night…

…mostly. :stuck_out_tongue:

Actually, it looks like the accounts that already were banned are still attempting to access the site, but it doesn’t look like any new accounts have slipped through yet. So the update does seem to be working.

…yay…

That’s why the Admins like to keep this handy… for close encounters.

I ran a comparison of all our user accounts versus an IP address list of known spammers. Chuck is confirming my findings, but we may have a significant number of sleepers we need to expunge.

Ladies, Gentlemen, Galaxy Ranger,

It is done. 340 sleeper spambots have been expunged from the system manually, one by one by the moderators. Once they had been banned we had them physically removed from the system ending this chapter of GWC.

Thanks to all once again. I am sure we will look back on the Rise of the Spambots someday and smile. I almost already miss the chase.

Huzzah!

Great job Solai and crew! Let’s hope defeat of the spambots lasts a long time.

I’m waiting for Thot’s final spambot report.

I second! It must have been a bit tedious ! Thanks guys!

In a related story, ThotFullGuy’s Friend list just went from 897 to 13.

:frowning: I … miss them already

I’ll have some alone-time to write it up tomorrow. So you can except a fitting finale

OMG, I just watched this movie today. Love the pic, Solai.

Thanks Thot. I wasn’t happy with the way my avatar turned out, so I was looking for different images to use when I found this one. The first thing I thot was, “Will Smith is positioned exactly how Nathan is in my avatar…”

…and the rest fell into place rather quickly.

Oh I know itl. That was a great scene—just watched the movie for the 1st time today.
I note that in the end credits that did they did the right thing and said "Suggested by Issac Asimov’s “I Robot” " and not “Based on”, because clearly it ain’t nothing like the book- (except for the 3 laws of Robotics)–but truth be told none of Asimov’s books really work as a straight movie conversion.

One thing that really amuses me is there WAS a company called U.S. Robotics that was major modem manufacturer. (although aren’t we all glad we’re past the era of of the dial up modem?)

Yes there was! And they made really good modems too, I’ve had several. 3-Com bought them and not long after dial-up was pretty much on the way out.
