With the sucess of this movie I am not going to have to deal witht he things I hated about the TNG universe!!!
No more bald wimpy captains.
No more “number one has the landing party”
No more “by the book” diplomacy
Get back in those skirts!
No more communism ( there are obviously corporations like Nokia and Budwiser, and people prize possessions like corvettes and motorcycles)
Everyone solves problems by fighting and gut instincts!
You have a science officer instead of the whole crew is a science officer and you have One “fighting” officer. ( meaning everyone was a wuss but Worf)
Admirals that look like they desrve to be admirals ( unlike every TNG admral includeing/especialy Janeway )
Romulans are all bad
Klingons are all bad
A captain who can get laid by something hotter than my grandma (VASH) or a slightly better looking grandma (I refuse to say hot) Baku lady!!!
and most importantly
Even your non-nerdy kids will actualy want to watch trek with you. ( cause there is no way a normal kid was sitting thru TNG the way we watched Kirk with our mom’s and dad’s)
This whole thing is just pay back too all those hippys that bad mouthed TOS since the outbreak of of the TNG virus amongst trek fans.
It’s pretty hard to grow up a good old fashioned red-blooed american boy and watch Star Trek turned into this show for hippies and dorks. I still watched it because I am trek loyal… but I always felt that with all that money and budget… why not jsut make smoething good like TOS. Why make it wimper and full of super nerdness. I feel about Roddenberry the way i feel about George Lucas. He created what i love… and destroyed and hated that thing he made. Both did great stuff then later tried to make them suck.
I use the example of my parents and friends. They all liked TOS, TNG was for nerds. Kinda the same way that I like Dr. Who and BSg, but one can understand why they wouldn’t usualy have the same fan base. I am the same way with TNG.
I like Kirk, grew up with Kirk. I would want to be Kirk, I would throw up in my mouth if you told me I would grow up and be Picard. I hate to use the word “normal” but I find myself useing it more and more in referance to TOS vs TNG era. When I was in elementry school almost every kid watched and/or enjoyed TOS. in 7th grade only me and the D&D kids with no other friends liked TNG because it just wasn’t exciteing. There wasn’t an exciteing episode until Best of Both Worlds. It was jsut really wussy.
I watched it… but it always felt like it was less than. If you have to “learn to like” something… it’s not as good as the thing you just always liked. I am not saying TNG is a bad show, it’s just not carrying the water of the original trek. HENCE no TNG reboot. if it was better… that would be where trek would be right now… not Kirk. The new movie and ticket numbers settles the age old debate about TOS vs TNG once and for all.
I am not insulting you for likeing it… i am insulting the show. You didn’t write it, or produuce it… and you didn’t attend lookout valley middle school , so you surly aren’t one of the D&D nerds I was talking about. I don’t know how anystatements made by me call you out by name.

If I did say " ALL people that like that show are weirdo’s ( i don’t think I did) I guess you can feel insulted, until then…you are jsut attributeing a conversation about a show, somehow to yourself as a fan.
I didn’t know nor imply, or state that if one was thinking that a kid’s TV show made for wimps with no social lives ( TNG) was cool that everyone who likes it automaticaly is a somehow a weirdo. ( I mean there is a great chance that there is a screw loose if somone likes TNG over Real Trerk, but I am not saying that it’s a fact. ) Batman the Animated series came on after school and was made for 10 year olds. Doesn’t make me 10 if I watch it today. I am 34 regaurdless. TNG was made for dorks, but many non dorks like it. In the long run, it’s a failure ( hence no reboot of TNG- in favor of the much superior Kirk) I am not a lesbian… but I watch the L word. If someone says to me “that’s a show for lesbians” I don’t gett offended. It IS a show for lesbians. I do like it thou. It’s all about self actualization.
and if you are a “hippy that badmouthed TOS for years” than get over it… your just getting what you’ve been giving out for 20 years. If this doen’t apply to you… than what are you worried about?
I am not a big flamer ( unless you count a few appearences in local community theatre- Ha that’s a good joke) So I looked back over my messages to see if I said “all people who like TNG are lesser class people” or even “asset is a dork” and I dodn’t find anything like that. I did insult a sub-par show full of much crappyier chaaracters than the TOS… but that’s not you… that’s a TV show.
I have to agree with Aset. TOS has its own issues (I still like it, though), but TNG certainly appeals to my moral compass more. When you refer to it as “Star Trek turned into this show for hippies and dorks” or “why make it wimper and full of super nerdness,” well, that’s an insult. You shouldn’t be surprised that some of us catch it. Not to mention some anti-woman and anti-LGBT wording that you casually throw around.
I’ve never seen it as a competition. One is a product of the late 60s, the other of the late 80s/early 90s. This new movie is a product of the late oughts. They all represent ideas, attitudes, and styles that reflect the culture and world they come from. And they’re all AWESOME. Except Voyager and Enterprise. Frak those shows.
I also prefer ds9 and think that ds9 kinda proved that the “picard way” was almost the death of the federation.

It is an insult to the made up tv show, not to you. I am not saying anything bad about anyone of you… I am insulting a TV show. And everybody here has at least once talked crap about a TV show.
And further more… I have never said anything on here bad about a person for their sexuality. And I have never said anything about women aren’t equal to men. I have said I hated tasha yar for being little and whiny and trying to be tough when she’s a liitle girl looking girl, but I have said I love Hoshi, Jadzia, Kera, T’pol, and Crusher. ( I used to like Deana, but she has been sliped back down to not as cool)
I have said the word wuss… or sissy or pansy or wimpy which doesn’t actualy have anything to do with sexuality ( I mean bigots can make anything apply to that kinda talk if they want to, but damn go with the less offensive possabilty people!!! When in doubt… have faith that the more offesnsive possible meaning is not what people are talking about!! … It’s jsut common to say a loser is a wuss, or wimp, or pansy. It doesn’t mean I am calling Picard Gay. and What if he was, who cares.
I encourage you to go back and read what I have written for months and find the instance where I spoke about anything LGBT as being bad. i know better than that, cause I am not wired that way, by brother is as gay as the day as long… I forget most people don’t know a few gay people usualy. I don’t even say “that’s frakkin gay” like we all did growing up in the 80’s cause my brother seems to think that is bigoted and it’s just not worth the hurt feelings.
I understand if you don’t agree with my feelings on this fictional TV show… but try not to tie my thinking Picard is a wimpy guy, into thinking you are a lesser person because you like him. And when I say it’s a show for geeks, I know that not EVERY PERSON WHO LIKES IT IS A GEEK ( that’s jsut who it’s inteded for). If I say Hippy, and you consider yourself a hippy… then where is the insult… I am jsut saying that it’s for you. If you don’t consider yourself a hippy… then it doesn’t apply to you so what do you care. I didn’t say Hippys all suck and they are less than people. They’re jsut not me, and I am no standerd to anyone other than me.
With all things in life… if someone is useing a word like loser, or wussy, or something please believe that you are cool enough that surely they don’t mean you specificaly. I never said “all the fans are…” So believe that anything negative isn’t about you!!!
I do , however, slam this old TV show!!! It’s just a TV show. Your dad didn’t create it. you don’t have to feel like an insult to it is a smear on you!!!
Come on people, this is supposed to be the thread for TOS fans to get out 20 years of jokes after we have been defending “kirk’s bad topee, cardboard sets, captain’s womanizeing and illogical landing parties” for years. TNG fans… give us week to bathe in the return of our king to the Command chair. We have been dealing with a lack of action and adventure ( with the exception ds9, Enterprise and First Contact) since 1991.
