That’s the REAL world, I am critical of the fictional Trrek world geeks ( Picard, Geordi, Wesley) . I am not talking about Patrck, Levar or Will ( especially not Will… I love him)

And as for the real world, I love my overweight black t-shit wearing Stargate fan buddy in real life… but I don’t want to watch a TV show where he’s the hero! That would be just stupid!!! I am sure that the REAL Picard would be awsome at a dinner party or as my kid’s teacher… or even as a friend…but he can’t hold a candle to a good ol red blooded James t Kirk in the hero catagory! He doesn’t even seem like a man. He’s like a grandpa! He doesn’t fight, break the rules, and never ever gets the girl ( don’t count Vash and Grandma Baku please) Which is a staple of TREK. TOS told us what Trek was… TNG forgot it. Now we have it back!!!
I don’t expect the hero in a show to be a member of my little brother’s D&D club.

And Kirk and Spock his crew were every bit as smart as Hippy trek. You could call them overachievers. They are smart, cool, athletic, and great leaders. They just also were more full of aadventure PLUS the captain was a near superhuman in the uber success he had always had in his life. He WAS Star Trek. You could have made movies without Sulu… but not without Kirk. The argument of “well Picard was smart” doesn’t hold water… so was Kirk. But he was cool as well… Picard was an old bald man. ( of course so was Kirk in the movies to be fair… lol!)

I am not going to appoligize of insulting MADE UP CHARACTERS!!! Plenty of shows have been bashed on these threads, why is “fake trek” so sacred. I am not on the BSG forum insulting BSG. OR telling CHuck and Audra and Sean that they suck… I am talking bad about a FICTIONAL chaacter!!! I don’t see how insulting MADE UP CHARACTERS seems to make people think I am somehow talking about REAL PEOPLE!!!

Once again… can you lighten up and let a few people post their jokes instead of jacking the thread and scareing the few people away from makeing jokes about the precious has-been series that you guys are so defending. We TOS fans had to listen to that crap the other way for 20 years… give us a week to talk about how much we are glad to see OUR show back on top and yours being forgotten!!! I know some of your fellow ( notice I didn’t say “you” of " all of you" ) fans are mad because that show is gone and is NEVER comeing back. It’s been proven inferior by the new movie’s rateings and is never comeing back. I know some fans ( didn’t say you) hate Kirk because he represents the guy that got picked first in backyard ball or the guy that never asked the girl with glasses to the prom, but those fans are just getting your just deserves for trying say that a wimpy old man was the better show and trying to tell us Kirk was inferior for 20 years, all the while they were insulting the ONLY captain of the Enterprise. and right now… our jokes are the only reason most people will remember that TNG show!!!

Well two things about that episode.

  1. she isn’t a legitimately hot chick in story… she is a shapechanger that looks hot in order to lure in the man . ANY man could date her if she wanted him, non of that makes him a lady killer! ( so picard is prey… he didn’t win over a hot girl… his nerdness got the girl, which isn’t legit!!!). So it still doesn’t make him a stud.

  2. He didn’t sleep with her, so he didn’t nail the girl that was “bonded” to him. ( in my soldier’s terms " He didn’t hit that")

  3. Out of seven seasons and movies we are up to three women with only one being hot and non of which he actualy slept with.

roosterpfunk69, I know you don’t see it, and I don’t think you mean it, but a lot of your language is abrasive and even offensive. When you keeping using phrases like “red blooded” (as opposed to what?), talking about female characters like they’re conquests (“nail the girl,” etc.) rather than people (unless they’re over 30, which makes them “grandmas”), proclaiming that you don’t use slurs against gay people because your brother “somehow” thinks it’s wrong, and pitting Next Gen fans against Original Series fans against each other in some kind of fantasy fight to the death - that’s not cool.

You may feel beaten down because people have criticized something you like, but the answer isn’t to be the bull in the china shop, pushing everyone’s buttons and then saying in the same breath that you don’t mean any of it. Everyone here is free to say what they want, but hopefully this explains some of the reaction you’re getting.

You kind of seem like a troll, but I am optimistic that such a being doesn’t exist in this forum. Or naive.

I don’t get in which way it is fake Trek (no need for caps). They are still trekking, and the series was developped under Roddenberry’s supervision. And as far as I know it represented his vision of a future more than the original. One in which we try not to rely on violence, and where at least on earth war, poverty and consumerism has been mostly eliminated.

Sure, it isn’t realistic, but it’s not supposed to be. It is idealistic as opposed to all the other apocalyptic science-fiction stories or dystopian ones where peace is only achieved by oppression.

I take it that that’s not your thing, you prefer the simplisism of a white and black view on moral. Well, there’s more than enough of that to go around.

I still don’t get how critisizing fiction becomes personal. I like BSG… I don’t loose my mind when someone says it sucks cause starbuck is s woman… it’s just not personal. I do love bsg, I might think they are an idot… but I wouldn’t think it was me?

I don’t get it. Nobody here "know’s picard… or wrote him… or created him… I don’t see the personal attatchment? This was supposed to be a funny thread. A kirk fans get to tell what we don’t have to see anymore… and it went that way untillll … somebody had to attribute an insult to a fictional character to themselves. I don’t know how that happens. I reexamined my grammer and don’t see how any stement I wrote means “you on the forum… I am talking about you”

So I try to defend ( without backing down cause I didn’t say anything wrong) my post.

And the girls being conquests is PART OF KIRK. It’s who that Kirk is. It’s what that Trek is. And it’s back… it’s the only trek that is.

I am not saying that in the real world we need to walk around and act like Kirk. I’m talking about fiction. Great fiction! and in this fiction… our hero ( who in the real world we wouldn’t want to have our little sister’s date) is a cool guy.Within the realm of the fitional world. Someone can always spit out the merits of Picard. And say he would be a great negotiator… that’s great. But trek was built on the back of conquest and winning… not compromise. That’s Kirk… and many fans were let down the first episode of TNG. Encounter at Farpoint changed Trek. and many ( most fans) at the time thought , not for the better. We have our trek back.

and I once again challange any one to repeat to me where I made a disparangeig comment about gays or lesbians. I know that just isn’t the truth. I mean really.Not only am I not wired that way… but I am sure that there are a few gay floks on here. ( I can’t think of but one… and i am sure she would point out my flaw in this matter , cause she doesn’t hold her tounge) I can think of two things

1: 1 i said I’m not a flammer ( meaning I don’t insult people on the internet) and while typeing i realized the humor in the way it sounded and thru in a “unless you count local theatre lol”- which isn’t an insult to gays, it’s self directed, and if you were in local theatre it would be funny cuae we all get called gay all the time, we accept it, it’s not insulting to us… and half of our troop actuallly are and they are my friends… so I really know that i am not on the internet slaming gays.

2: as for the sexism… calling a fictional character a “wuss” or saying that a hot actress is Eye candy is no diferent than my girlfriend on here ( and I won’t call her out cause she doesnt want too reognized as such in all this) talking about how hot Helo or Lee Adama in a towl is.

I have never said anything such as women can’t do this or shouldn’t do that… i bragged on Hoshi, and I like Starbuck, and many others. I have talked crap about old Uhua, Tasha Yar, Janeway, and Laura Roslin ( although jsut because I hated her politics)

Once again… I might be a dummy on this and I welcom a million PM’s to set me straight , but once again… I was tryin to have a light heated thread… and the more I try to say good stuff… people look for things to try to be mad about.

This is a classic way to defend humor that’s offensive to others, particularly people who engage in anti-racist, feminist, anti-ableist, anti-heterosexist etc projects and work in their daily lives. That doesn’t make it any less offensive.

Recall that fiction, no matter how far-fetched, is also based in lived experience in some way or another.

However, I see that you are perhaps listening to but not hearing what I have said (or Rachel, or Audra, or Aset). Please just be aware that some of what you have written has been deeply offensive to some of us (though perhaps I should only speak for myself) no matter what your original intention.

damn… I am trying to calm it down … and it keeps getting worse. I don’t understand. Once again… please stop going out of your way to find offese and listen to what I am trying to say. I don’t know how many ways I can try to tell you guys that I am not sitting here trying to piss people off. I jsut wanted to talk crap about a TV show! In a thread that frankly… if you don’t want to join in… don’t crap on! It wasn’t the talk bad about women thread… it was “praise the old and down with the TNG”. Not a real serious thing. I only brought up the gay thing cause one of you threw that at me yesterday and I didn’t even know why. I didn’t say anything about anybody being gay…I couldn’d find anywhere that I brought up a gay person. but I got slamed for saying something offensive to gay folks and I don’t knnow what that thing was. I wish a gay person would tell me what that was… so I could make sure that I don’t do it. ( now if I said somehting completely normal and it’s an underground insult that I can’t be expected to know… then I probably wouldn’t comply, but anything close to normal would get an " oh crap… I am soooooo sorry")

I know that I can come across as a dick when calling a sc-fi icon like Picard a nerd. If that bothers people… well I don’t understand being offended for a made up person… but ok.
