Razor Theater Preview Frak Party **SPOILERS**

This thread is for all of you lucky people who managed to catch the Razor preview in theaters last night. Neither Audra, Sean, or I managed to make it, because God hates us.

But that shouldn’t stop you from discussing it. We’ll join in when the episode airs on TV shortly.

Here is a minor thing that really bothered me, and I guess it is “in character” for Bill Adama, but still – one second he is countermanding Lee’s orders, and the next he is telling Lee, all wise and sagacious-like, “It’s your command, it’s your call”? I guess love and concern for his son (and also, in this case, Kara) clouded his judgment so that he couldn’t see the contradiction in that in the heat of the moment. As soon as he told Lee, before the big battle, that he was temporarily transferring his flag to the Pegasus, I knew he was going to countermand some order sooner or later!

On the whole, I really liked RAZOR. I especially thought all the cast did a fantastic job of geting back into their characters the way they were in post-Pegasus Season 2. Having just rewatched those episodes with GWC, I thought you could drop “Razor” in without any hitch.

I did also wonder though – were we 8 months out from the attack (per Lee’s acceptance of command speech) or 10 months (per the screen subtitles)? Oh, well, just another nitpick.

So the Hybrid is not only medaling with Kara’s destiny, but has it out for Audra, Sean and Chuck as well?!

So will we see a Cylon Neitzsche in Season 4, proclaiming, “God is dead”?

I do wonder how the Hybrid came to be venerated as God – and why, if the other Cylons (as Sharon-to-be-Athena seems to suggest) know about the project and it was abandoned, it is still venerated as God by (seemingly) all the “skinjob” Cylons (at least outside of the final five – ?). I have no explanation – any thoughts?

It seemed to me that all of the basestar hybrids in general are portrayed by some of the Cylon skinjobs as Godlike. If memory serves, the Leobens believe that the hybrids speak with God, or know his will, and what they speak is sacred (albeit gibberish). They (the hybrids) seem to be revered as special, and mysterious, at the very least by the Cylons, in varying degrees, and it seems to be accepted that they are existing on a higher level. But I don’t think they see the hybrids as “Gods” themselves, or the Razor hybrid as “God”…or am I missing something ??

I didn’t get the sense that the cylons as a whole looked at this hybrid as being God… Just that the specific OG Cylon Gaurdians looked at him as God.

I would think that perhaps that “myth” in Cylon legend may have led to the overall Cylon belief in one God, but even Athena didn’t really even believe that this hybrid existed until that very moment.

No I think that you are right the first Razor Hybrid broke away from the the rest of the Cylons at the end of the first war. I do not think that the the Razor hybrid is the Cylon God. I however am not ready believe what the Hybrid said about Starbuck, I think it might be part of the conflict between the Final 5 and the Significant 7.

RAZOR SPOILER

And how well was the whole Cain and her XO thing done ?? The fact that they obviously were friends just made the outcome a lot tougher to watch…That small scene on the treadmill beforehand amplified the whole horror of the situation in the CIC. That’s called great writing, folks.

What pilled on to that scene for me as a viewer was the fact that we knew that the whole operation was a trap set up by Number 6 (sorry don’t remember the name given in the show it sounded French however). And while yes the Pegasus survived I can understand why Cain allowed the abuse of Number 6, and why Cain had such a hatred for her.

Didn’t the Hybrid say something like, “My children regard me as God,” or somesuch, to Kendra near the end? He wouldn’t have been referring to the Old Style Centurions, since he didn’t create them (vice versa, in fact, if I understand). I thought the Hybrid was the first “skinjob” and it had somehow gone wrong – no? I’ve only seen it once, obviously, and the whole backstory went by rather fast, complicated by the Li’l Adama “sode” thrown in. So I probably am fuzzy on the details.

We wondered if the Hybrid was an aged Leoben model. The 2 human prisoners we see in the “sode” that is in the TV cut of “Razor” are Leoben and Gina, yes? (I will agree with the GWC crew from last week’s podcast – that is a heckuva thing to retcon into Adam’s backstory. Not sure I like it.)

Yes, the dynamics between Cain and Shaw were great throughout. And I had not actually picked up on the fact that Gina was, in her own way, being merciful by keeping the network down so that Pegasus would survive the attack. I loved (as did the rest of the audience) the line, “When it comes down to it, we’re all human.” LOL. And yet also very true in that we have seen the skinjobs trying to mimic humanity.

I guess I had a somewhat similar impression. I thought that the Original Hybrid (OH) was at least the impetus for the Cylon belief in god. It seemed that this hybrid was the first Cylon to be made of a mix of biological and mechanical parts, and was possibly the first Cylon that was able to pick up on the mystical prophetical tidbits floating around in space (like oracles and current hybrids do). As the OH group split off from the main Cylon contingent the abilities and nature of the OH could become “mythologized” to the point where it is remembered as God by the remaining 7 Cylons. The 7 may have been only in their most rudimentary stage of development (both biological- and intelligence-wise), and thus unable truly comprehend and remember the Original Hybird. Maybe certain models, such as Cavil, were more progressed at the time of the split and thus have a better understanding of the Original Hybrid, and therefore doubt its God-like status? Anyway, if they met Original Hybrid now, it would probably appear less God-like to them, and just seem to to be a more cogent and coherent version of their own hybrids?

Sorry for the ramblings, but I think I’m still working this out in my own head…

Okay, I’m posting this here, because no one else in my world will get how very very cool this is… and I gotta tell someone who gets it!!

I just got an invitation to Michael Taylor’s personal screening of Razor (apparently an uncut version!!). I didn’t get to go to any other showing, so I’ll have to wait for the tv version to see what’s different. As soon as I know, I’ll be sure to post.

This was through a friend of a friend–I just happened to mention that I watch the show, and they just happened to know him. Wow!!

Lucky you, Jean!

Think how much more fun it would be to bring a date !! And I have the night off, whatever night that happens to be !!

I would bring as many of you as I could, but I barely got in myself. The best I can do is try to remember as much as I can, so I can tell you about it later.

I love this site for bringing together all sorts of people who love a great show!

So, what’s the #1 question I should ask, if I should be lucky enough to talk to MT?

  1. Is Jake the Dog still alive ?

  2. What is Tricia’s cellphone number?

  3. Who’s the final Cylon?

Also to think I forget who said it but they mentioned these guardians(old cylons or the start of the flesh old centruons) broke off from the skinjobs at the end of the war… But wasnt it only like 40 yrs since the first war and the destruction of the colonies. It seemed odd that Athena didnt think this hybrid was alive? esepcailyl for machines you think they would know all there history and it would be downloaded to all? unless someone like cavil erased it or here si a thepry maybe he is a guardian? and was rulerof the older model of centruions?

Interesting idea about Cavil. Rewatching the New Caprica arc, I’m not sure I agree with Sean, that Cavil knows more than he lets on. I think he may just represent some diversity within the skinjob community, just as some humans are more religious than others. So Cavil uses “God” with air quotes (love that touch, btw!).

As for the hybrid, it was dying when we saw it, so maybe Athena was just extrapolating from what she knew at the time, that it was an imperfect job, not long for this world, etc. It wasn’t actually dead, no, but it wasn’t far from it, either, and would have died even if Shaw had not detonated the nuke.

Very true it was dying and I bet that is why they getting more humans to make another to replace him?

Did anyone find it interesting that the Hybrid did not appear to have much control over the Guardian Centurions. When Shaw tried to convey the Hybrids opinion of Starbuck her signal was jammed. Was the Hybrid in control of that Basestar or a was the Hybrid being kept there by the Guardian Centurions.
