Here you go – a place to discuss tonight’s flashback.
Holy fraking craaaaaaaaaaaaaaap! That was suh-weet!
But…to questions…was that Toaster bleeding or was it just me?
Interesting. This flashback shows mid-air combat between an old-style Centurion and Husker. Outside all those really expensive CGI shots…not quite sure where things go now…
Humans have red blood. Vulcans have green blood. That looked like motor oil or its equivalent, I thought.
That is what I thought…but Lil’ Adama seemed confused by it, like whatever it was was unexpected.
In other news: CGI old school Centurion? Awesome. Fraking Awesome.
That was one hardcore centurion, that’s for sure! I think it would be awesome if we saw more of these old school centurions in season 4, as 6 did say “they were still around”. The video is up on YouTube in case anyone missed it.
You know…you speak of the Centurion as being “hardcore” and it suddenly dawned on me: This thing fell from the stratosphere and survived. Think about that. I am no physicist, and even accounting for wind-resistance slowing him down he should have made a crater on impact.
Is there anyone who can speak to the specifics of this? This is a perfect thing for the Mythbusters to compute.
Jamie: Assume the Centurion has a body mass of a ton
Adam: A ton? That’s a ton of fun!
Jamie: Right. So a ton of metal is dropped from 50,000 feet.
Adam: I’ll get my cylon-speed-gauge-o-monitor and let’s do a small scale test
As the old saying goes, it’s not the fall that kills you it’s the sudden stop at the bottom. Cylons are tougher than humans, but how well are they designed to take an impact that would smash a car to confetti?
Wow, y’all got me thinking, and shouldn’t Adama be dead? I don’t know anything about the physics of skydiving, but a 1-ton hardcore metal centurion crashing into a 180lb human, while falling through the atmosphere, should turn said human into tooth paste? Shouldn’t it? What happens when two skydivers collide in the air? I honestly don’t know, but can’t imagine it’s good.
Woah! Allow me to mop my brain up since that just blew my mind. Forget “Caprica”, make a show on the first Cylon war with this cat who plays Adama.
I thought the same thing. Turned the brightness up on my display and what ever it was it’s reddish…but looks much thinner than blood. Prolly some kind of lubricant.
If the Cylon that Young Adama executed the “flashlight maneuver” on was the same as the pilot Cylon that attacked him mid-air, where did the Cylon pistol come from? We saw the pilot Cylon lose its weapon at about the same time Husker dropped his pistol.
At first glance this was a bit outlandish and over the top, but what the frak !! It asked a lot I think set as it was in a little dinky two minute piece, I’m thinking that once we are in the middle of things, watching the big leadup to the battle, the battle itself, and we are all drooling like crazy, this will play a lot better. And CGI Centurions !!! Rockin’ !
It’s probably horrible form to quote oneself, but I just remembered we get to watch this on a movie sized screen in two weeks !!! Now I AM drooling.
I thought these last two flashbacks were great…I loved all the viper action and it was amazing seeing the old style centurions again!
The ice planet Lt. Adama lands on reminds me of the one from the first Battlestar Galactica Episode “The Gun on Ice Planet Zero”
Also, I read from a post about how this could be important to the Razor movie…but I have a different idea. Who knows what Adama finds down there…in the first “sode” it was said the toasters must think the place is valuable or something to that effect. If you think back to the mini-series, the then Commander Adama put it together pretty fast that Leoben was a Cylon. What if the young Adama finds some sort Human/Cylon research plant that gives him that insight? Just a thought… I love the podcasts!
If Razor is drawing on “Gun on Ice Planet Zero” for inspiration, I wonder if we’ll see Doctor Ravashol and his clones. Perhaps the Cylons captured Ravashol and forced him to create the first skinjobs.
what i loved about this flashback was the point of view shift to the centurion - in midair you are looking through the centurion’s helmet, and on the planet you see the messed up multiple images of adama that the soon to be -toast- centurion sees…the latter images reinforce the cylon as machine. not so sure about the former (the red glow was a nice touch).
cavatar- i think you might be on to something…at least i hope this is the direction that the story goes in.
As to the messed up multiple images…I must admit I thought the dish was having another nervous breakdown. We’d been having issues all day. I’m just glad that that was the way it was supposed to have been.
That centurion looked great! Is that CGI?
Yeah, that was way too fluid to have been one of the original suits. Considering that freefall scene’s role in this clip it was probably easier to have the Centurion as CGI rather than one more actor on a wire in a bulky suit that would have probably caused havoc with the green screen. I do not think the original series Centurion suits would have worked well at all with compositing going on especially if there were reflections…which would have led to a translucent (semi-cloaked?) centurion.
