Here’s the official frak party for Razor flashback #2. (Sorry for the delay in posting it!)
Some thoughts about last night’s clip after having had time to sleep:
-
The pilot Jaycie McGavin, termed by some a redshirt, appears to have bit the dust. I would not call the character portrayed by Allison Warnyca a redshirt, though. She was not necessarily expendable. If anything she provides a major push forward in terms of character development as part of the plot. Perhaps we now see one of the drives behind the young Adama in fighting the Cylons which would namely be losing a lover.
-
The old style uniforms are back. This was not too much of a surprise. The fabrics used to make the current uniforms is not produced anymore. The production team for BSG bought up all of it that is available on the planet. For some one shot characters it would not be cost-effective to put them in current-style flight suits that might get damaged as that is fabric you’ll never get back.

The emotionalism that seems to undergird so many of Adama’s decisions makes an appearance here. What this shows us is that this is not a “new thing” and that in the past he was some rock-solid, stable guy. This is a part of the character long in development.
I am of the opinion that Jaycie is not dead quite yet but will be soon. A disfigured mate is a powerful motivator in my eyes, sometimes even more than a martyred one because they can’t join in the fight anymore but can still spew hatred towards the enemy from the infirmary.
I also hope that the Flash Gordon-a-sodes will portray Sr. going completely off the deep end and developing a wicked revenge complex towards the Cylon. Which might explain his remorse asking, “Do we deserve to live?” later on in the Galactica hanger deck. Perhaps this was meant as a personal comment about himself and the actions he committed back in the day in the cockpit.
Right now Jaycie is still in redshirt territory. Introduced briefly, and the next thing you know she’s looking like Christopher Pike (those pesky exploding consoles are nothing new, apparently.) Sean may be right, and she may end up being the coach-from-sickbay, but I have a feeling that she’ll either show up dead, or dying after giving her Gipper speech.
I’ve got to say, the actor thay have portraying the young Billy Adama seems to be doing a very good EJO impression.
As for Jaycie, I agree that I wouldn’t call her a redshirt, since a redshirt’s job is to take the bullet for the main characters and either die quickly or after a short contrition speach. But the movie Hotshots has the perfect term for a charcter that exists to die to motive the main character - Deadmeat. She didn’t take the bullet for Adama, but now he is frakking pissed after her gipper speach.
I’m just trying to bolster my argument from the Flashback #1 discussion.
…and i will bolster my argument that this stuff is CRACK.
i’m being forced to chase the dragon for another week.
seriously though, i think Nico Cortez is doing a fine job as young Bill Adama.
That could explain why the Sci-Fi v/o promo line is that such is “designed” to get you ready for Razor. The description you proffer may be quite apt.
Amen.
OK, am I the only one to think that the end of the last (#2) minisode was, well, lame?
Yeah, it’s part two of eight, but still…
I do agree with you Pike about this one being somewhat lame…
I am not sure I how I feel about the old uniforms…I suppose they are somewhat fitting but I am still about them.
Nico Cortez is the actor playing young William (Billy!) Adama. I agree he is doing a good job of channeling EJO, even more so in this second minisode. I agree w/Sean in that I don’t think CJ is dead quite yet, but I think the party’s over as far as the relationship. And I can see her pushing him away as a result of her injuries rather than him ditching her…
The last scene with Nico in the viper cockpit, man, he was so Adama it was spooky !! November can’t come soon enough.
Jaycie: I’m not dead yet! I’d like to go for a walk now! I feel happy! Happy!
<bonk>
Seriously, for two minutes I was impressed at how much they crammed in. Jaycie’s makeup was AWESOME, and Lil’Bill’s moment of resolve in the cockpit was a small acting masterpiece.
They made up for last week. Excellent mini-webi-videopodcast-isode
Why does the second clip seem lame? I do not understand.
Yeah, even for a show that we know loves to cover it’s stars in fake blood now and again, that shot of JC’s injury was a shocker !! Ron must loooove his makeup dept.!
And seriously, Solai, she has been very very ill.
Yes I also agree that Nico Cortez is doing a good job channeling EJO…However I do still think that this minisode lacked what the first minisode had.
This minisode was much better than the first. We got to see some serious EJO channeling, a Raptor, and a VIPER! Space combat on the way!
A few interesting thoughts.
The pre-launch sequence looks like it was designed as an homage to the miniseries.
The deck crew work uniforms are the same as now as are the black uniformed marines. Interesting that those uniforms haven’t changed.
Why are the medics wearing camouflage uniforms?
It really was amazing how well he affected the mannerism and speech of EJO. He also seems to be a pretty short guy, which also helps him fit in with the Adama clan.
I liked the music in this minisode. I don’t have any of the soundtracks so I’m not really sure, but it sounded slightly different than the usual nautical-inspired themes that we have heard in the past.
Just that last shot in the Viper. Young Adama seemed to go a bit over the top, there.
I think it’s great how we can have such different ideas about scenes and plotlines…this is what makes this forum so enjoyable…BSGWC Rocks !!!
I totally buy the actor as young Adama. You can see all the seeds of Adama’s guts, his leadership, how he thinks. They really nailed it.
Whoa, has no one seen Razor flashback number 3? That was amazing! We got some intense viper firefights. Those two minutes were better than all the webisodes combined!
