Hooray for Fringe! They survived the Friday Night Death Slot!

Nolan and Snyder working together!!! How awesome is that?

http://www.slashfilm.com/zack-sndyer-talks-superman-realism-working-christopher-nolan-300-prequel-xerxes/#more-101126

I hope it is Nolan writing the screenplay and Snyder doing the visuals, Snyder has always been weak in the story arena; but I like his visuals.

Superman is a hard character to write for but if anyone can do it, it is got to be Nolan right?

Actually I think Goyer wrote it…but Nolan is producing., and Snyder is directing.

http://forum.galacticwatercooler.com/showpost.php?p=317025&postcount=666

but totallu agree…if anyone could pull it together…it’d be Nolan

Misread as Gryper wrote it and is collaborating with Nolan and Snyder. Got very excited. Sigh.

now THAT would be OSSIM

and probably news to Gryper…

Very much so! I couldn’t write a good greeting card let alone a movie script!

That guy’s frakkin OSSIM!!

My Shatner impression sux. But my tumble-roll impression is amazing.

So Amy Adams strikes me as the perfect Lois Lane but I really don’t have any interest in seeing the new Superman movie. I haven’t ever really liked the movies in this franchise. However, if Viggo Mortenson were attached to it. He’d be a damn good reason to give it another shot.

Thanks for posting this. I have had a few friends report back on Sucker Punch and I don’t think I am going to see it. The article you posted points out exactly why:

Feminism for dudes… These action vignettes very deliberately pander to adolescent fantasy, dressing up the girls in fetishistic garb that highlights their thighs, midriffs and frequent upskirts. But just as the girls continue to take back control from the men in the real world, their physical appearance in the action fantasy worlds gradually takes a backseat to their ability to simply kick a ludicrous amount of ass, in very much the same way any male action star might. More importantly, by unifying and fighting together — in both worlds — the girls are able to put forth the effort needed to defy the physically imposing monsters who aim to keep them in their place. They’re fighting to take back the control that’s been taken from them.

While it may be the girls’ sexuality that allows them to manipulate their leering oppressers, they find their true strength elsewhere: In each other.

That’s right. Sucker Punch is The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. But with dragons, robots and Nazi zombies.

Dudes don’t need their feminism to be spoonfed to them in flashy, aetheticized smoothies that have more boob-shots than actual opportunities to contemplate the male gaze and its impact on all humans. And as much as it tempts me sometimes, the answer for us, feminist and otherwise, cannot simply be for women to find true strength and liberation in each other, existing outside of and apart from men.

I said earlier or maybe on a different thread that although I love the aesthetic and the opportunity to play with female sexuality and aggression that movies like Sucker Punch promise, so few of them ever offer anything meaningful. Or even entertaining beyond the visuals. So I have given up.

I don’t begrudge anyone who loved Sucker Punch. But I would definitely recommend reading the article Omra posted after seeing it, and thinking about whether the Big Ideas that the author raises have any merit outside of the context of Sucker Punch itself.

And if you are interested in exploring the impact of the male gaze on strong, sexual, aggressive, interesting women, go Netflix some Pedro Almodovar!

I have to say I love Pedro style, High Heels and Talk to Her are some of my favorite but he does not have the geek style at all. He does have a unique takes on strong woman.
On top of that he has a great eye.

A Justice League film? (dont hold your breath…but at least its being talked about)

http://www.slashfilm.com/new-justice-league/

I didn’t mean that Almodovar has a similar geek style to Snyder–he doesn’t. But some of his earliest works (Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del monton and Folleme, folleme folleme, Tim!*) features characters who delight in their sense of being outside the mainstream in a way that is similar to characters at the center of, say, Kevin Smith movies.

I meant to say that if you are interested in movies that take on the issue of the impact of the male gaze on strong women (many of whom don’t give a hoot who’s looking and some of whom care deeply), Almodovar has a lot more to say than Snyder.

Nightwing, did you see Sucker Punch? I’d be interested in your thoughts.

*I’m not refusing to translate those titles to be pretentious. Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del monton is an idiom that makes no sense in translation and the other is not fit for polite company

Behold The World’s Largest Photo Ever Taken Indoors: 40 Gigapixels Of Awesome

We interrupt our live coverage of breaking news about Internet companies from around the world to point you to this phenomenal 360-degrees photo (okay, actually it’s 2,947 pictures stitched together). It is, to our and the photographer’s knowledge, the largest photo ever taken indoors with 280,000 x 140,000 pixels of awesomesauce.
