Planet of the Apes (1968) 1/16 @ 1 PM ET

I think he’d react pretty much the same as Taylor.

John Chambers, the creative makeup design, made Spock’s ears.

Roddy McDowell and Kim Hunter had to “over-act” for the expressions to come through the makeup. They had to constantly move their face, to give the makeup life.

“Touchy, isn’t he?”

The humor is great and the wit dry. I love that.

“I’m up for a raise.”

giggle

That’s pessimistic. You don’t think he would have brought equality and wholesome American values?

Look at Heston, lowering his eyes and slumping. Great direction.

Yeah. I guess during the court scene. Instead of it being a locked session, have it opened to all of ape society. He would give a rousing speech.

And they definitely did it better than anyone else, which is why their characters were so memorable and relatable.

The whole chase sequence is great, tension and quick cuts. The camera is constantly moving.

Notice the exhibits moving. I guess extras were cheaper than statues.

Maybe it’s my cynical and passive agressive nature but I love the use of allegory.

Just imagine how people would react if a wild gorilla was loose in a mall.

I called into the cast and gave a PSA:

“I am the father of two daughters and I feel it’s important to teach my daughters how to say no to people they might date.”

My daughter then speaks into the phone, “Take your stinking paws off me, you dirty ape.”

“It’s a madhouse! A madhouse!”

My favorite line, “It’s a Madhouse. A Madhouse!!”

bwhahahahaha!

I hope it got recorded. I hope even more that they play it.

Zanuck (producer) did not want the nudity in this film. They were trying to sell a family film which was what most sci-fi flicks were prior to this. Heston disagreed. He felt this is the way the apes would treat him.

This court scene builds the political allegory for this film. Up til now, it’s an adventure. This scene builds the message for the audience.

LOL! Hope they play it on a cast!
