Love the way this is filmed.
No frakkin CGI, models, whatever. Those are real explosives, right close to them. The fear on their faces is real.

I guess we’ll be watching that in two weeks then?
Join us next week. I’ve never seen it yet either.
Really sad how misunderstood shellshock/PTSD was back then. So much needless suffering for so long after the fact.
I’m feeling generous tonight. Letting it pass uncommented.
I’d follow Dax!
Look at that. Head of the pack.
It’s funny you should mention that. We were doing a sweep for IEDs one day and were out for 12 hours. Me and a friend got bored and we had an hour long discussion on the pro and cons of which would be better to lose: an arm or a leg? Wasn’t as dark as it sounds though, or as depicted here, but yeah, conversations like that happen. We decided it was better to lose a leg than an arm.
I was trying to go in date order. Full Metal Jacket is an 80s film. We’re only in the 50s/60s.
phew
I will try to track it down then.
God, this general is a dick.
So are you planning to stick with Kubrick then?
“Fire on our own position”??? What a dick.
Well, yeah. But these punks are still in the trenches. Roget is the coward.
Lawrence of Arabia is planned for August 31st. Well, planned in me brain. I still have to setup the thread.
Now as they sit around the table it’s the classic fight of ‘Who has the biggest dick?’
This general reminds me of the Soviet high command during WW2.
So do you have a list worked up? In your brain or otherwise?
Quoted from Wikipedia:
The French Army did certainly carry out military executions for cowardice as did all the other major participants. However the central plank of the film is the practice of selecting individuals at random and executing them as a punishment for the sins of the whole group. This is similar to Decimation, and while it was employed by the Romans, it was rarely used by the French Army in World War I. Little known is the French decimation (the shooting of every tenth person in a unit) of the 10e Compagnie of 8 Battalion of the Régiment Mixte de Tirailleurs Algériens. During the retreat at the beginning of the war these French-African soldiers refused an order to attack. They were shot on the 15th of December 1914 near Zillebeeke in Flanders.
For example, there is this one story of a company of young soldiers from Siberia that were ordered to cross this river. They had never even seen a river, and had no boats, but their general kept ordering them across, even as they drowned in small groups until only four men were alive.
Actually, yeah. I’ll share it with you.
uh…
um.
“I’ve got this real moron thing I do, it’s called ‘Thinking’ And I guess I’m not a very good American, because I like to form my own opinions. I see [war] largely as an exercise in dick-waving…alot of men standing around in a field waving their dicks at one another. Men, insecure about the size of their penises, choose to kill one another.”
Hahaha!! What Lucky…I mean…Carlin said.
They don’t say that military intelligence is an oxymoron for nothing.
Thanks. I can set up calendar entries, even if the threads aren’t done yet.
Love that. What’s that from?
