Pan's Labyrinth 6/25 @ 10 PM ET

So is this real or all in her head?

I believe in the magic, but me head is in the clouds.

the glasses are not very subtle.

I suspect mercedes may have been given up in the raid. key, anyone?

Welcome to the world of the male. Where violence and frakking are usually around us at any given time. Often the same time.

I have to admit, I’m much more comfortable dealing with the ‘real world’ in this movie than with the fantastic parts. Most curious.

That’s one of the truly maddening things about this movie. It’s completely unclear, right through the very end. It could really go either way.

I saw this right after watching ‘Casino Royale’, both torture scenes made me cringe.

Have you noticed the Faun getting younger?

The violence, war and disease is the nightmare. The fawn and underworld is real. Just ask yourself, have you ever meet a fawn that wasn’t real?

End Act II. Hope is removed. Textbook Fairy tale.

Torture in general = evil.

This is actually quite appropriate, today is the Int’l day in Support of Victims of Torture.

La noche de los lápices is perhaps the most graphic bit I’ve seen.

To me, what’s more brutal is the brutal death of innocence. The mother wishes to destroy her child’s innocence.

But one also has to consider the world in which they are living. Will Ofelia benefit more from escaping into her fairy tales, or will it be better for her to be realistic about what the world around her has become.

obedeber por obedecer, sin pensarlo, solo es para gente como ti, capitan.

And of course he shoots the doctor. Of course.

But you’ll notice that the Captain and the mother don’t see what she sees. To them, it’s just a rotting root, dotted with blood, floating in spoiled milk. It’s hard to believe in the magic when they can’t see it.

It’s disgusting that he has his whole “torture routine.”

Good on Mercedes.

“For God’s sake, she’s just a woman.”

Just in case it wasn’t clear what an ass this man is.

But very much in line with the official discourse of the time he represents.

Big mistake not killing him when she had the chance, though.

It’s so effective, though. Showing the brutal transition we’ve all gone through. Losing our innocence and growing up.

I could really do without watching him stitch himself up

This guy is one tough bastard. Somebody like that, you gotta kill when you get the chance. He absolutely will not stop.
