Well, we have a brand new Star Trek movie about a month away! I’m thinking this is an excellent excuse to get together for dinner, drinks, good times, and maybe even the movie. And if we go to an early-enough show, a rewatch! I’ll travel wherever. Let’s plan early, and make it happen.
Woot! Yes.
Keara and I were discussing this a while back. We were sort of thinking somewhere in NYC (or thereabouts) would be a fairly central location for us NE GWCers. There are enough New Yorkers that we could get some pretty good intel on locations, directions, etc.
That sounds like an excellent idea. I’m for it. Work though keeps me from doing the leg work. If we could get it together I’m a go.
Let me know whats up with it. Worst comes to worst NJ here has plenty of great Multiplexes and we have PARKING.:D:D:D
Yeah, that’s a good point. Where are you in NJ?
Seconded! So I saw that the IMAX theaters in the Boston area are going to be showing the new Star Trek movie. Tickets will sell out really quickly for the Friday shows but if we coordinate in advance, we could all get tickets for an IMAX show somewhere in North Jersey or NYC.
NYC or Northern NJ would be OK for me. I just need enough lead time on the plans to get ready.
With my kids’ soccer schedules, I’m not sure I could do it, but it sounds like fun.
Well I’m between Paramus and Hackensack in Bergen County. The Biggest mall in Northen NJ is in Paramus at Routes 17 and 4 They just put in a new AMC Mulitplex in the mall. Stadium seating all the bells and whistles. There are 3 theme restaurants in the mall itself. In the parking lots there are a Chilis and an On the Border too facing Route 17. You can get to the mall from either the GWB the Garden State Parkway or the NY Thruway to either RT 17 or the GSP.
If we do NYC, or Northern Jersey I would likely come. Obviously NYC works best for me since it is accessible via train (I won’t drive into NYC). Of course Upper NJ works (and Badger and I could likely meet-up and just take one car up there.
Let me know.
count me in! sounds like great fun. my vote is definitely for new york city, altho i supppossee north jersey would be doable… ppl should just take amtrak! amtrak regional is pretty good as far as delays go. We’re talking about something for the evening of friday may 8th, right?
And if we can find a theater to see it in imax… TOTALLY worth it. i saw harry potter 5 and dark knight in imax, and like. wow. even if its a bad movie, it’ll still be amazing because of the imax. id say it would be worth it to wait until, gulp, saturday, or something, in order to see it in imax. just my opinion.
I’m traveling back on the 8th, but I might be able to make it!
OMG…I am a quote in a signature… Glad I checked the forum today. Depending on the location of the meet up and timing, I would be interested
Just let me know where and I’ll be there.
Hey everyone, so it looks like we haven’t decided what we are planning for May 8th, so I’ll bump the discussion to get it started again.
- First off, where are we holding the meetup. It looks like we have two groups of people one around Mass-RI area and one around and south of NYC. So we can either split it into two meetups or get a spot between the two locations.
- Second issue is who will be doing the planning for the meetup? Someone local to the the spot needs to get theater times, directions and restarant reservations, which means we need to get a head count.
- Also, do we want to eat first and then see the movie, or movie then dinner?
For a central location, my town of Danbury, CT is right on the NY border between NYC and Mass, the theater is located almost right off the highway, and there are several places to eat near by for different price ranges. The down side is that I’m the only one that won’t have to travel, for everyone else, it will be about a two hour drive. And although it easy to get here by car, train travel here is terrible.
Other options that were mentioned were northern NJ and someplace in RI. I can go to a northern NJ location, but someone needs to get me directions.
Finally, I prefer dinner after the movie so that we can all sit around and celebrate or complain about the movie, but, I would like to meet before the movie starts so that we can all connect names to faces.
I’d really like to advocate for new york city folks… i think its the only way i could do it and… its new york. for driving people who really dont want to bring the car into the city, I can look for a park and ride system in jersey or something. but if you can make it to your local amtrak station, just take the train into the city - much less headaches. anyways… my two cents
I too would suggest NYC only because of easiest accessibility. I mean trains head there from all the directions even if you have to drive a little to get to a train station. Plus with the late hour the train would require less driving and I could rest on the train.
Or were we looking at Saturday for the meet-up? I know we all want to go opening night, but we could spend more time together if we went on Saturday.
Feel free to chime in with other suggestions, but here’s what I propose: The AMC Empire 25 theater (on 42nd street right in Times Square) is already selling tickets online for Star Trek on opening weekend at movietickets.com. The tickets there are definitely expensive at $18.50 each (including the online service fee) but it has the advantage of being on a IMAX screen (!!!) and being convenient to both Penn and Grand Central stations for those of us coming into the city by train. If we can agree on a time on Saturday and buy tickets in advance, we can then go out for a meal afterwards or do other things nearby.
Here’s the schedule for Saturday the 9th:
10:10 AM, 11:30, 1:10 PM, 2:30, 4:10, 5:30, 7:10, 8:30, 10:10, 11:30
Makes sense to me. I suggest between 2:30 and 7 because those coming from Boston would have a bit of a trip, unless you guys are coming down Friday?
The 1:10 or 2:30 would allow us to have dinner and be back on trains by evening.
Just my 2 cents, but I think we should decide fast so we can ensure that we get tickets.
