New York Comic Con - October 13 - 16, 2011

So my plans for the moment are:

I have requested the 4 days of the con off. Because of ‘Interesting Times’ at work, there is a possibility that I will not be able to get all of the days off. But if I can get at least two if not all four days, One day (Probably Thursday or Friday) I would like to do a lunch either in the park or at a restaurant near Columbus Circle and then spend the rest of the day at the American Museum of Natural History. I’ll be doing this even if I’m going alone, so if anyone wants to meet for just a weekday lunch and or a museum tour, you all are welcome to join me, and I would be glad to give a tour. ( I HIGHLY recomend the space show if you haven’t seen it before.) Also, in mid November, the museum will be having a special exhibit on ‘Our Future in Space’, so I’ll probably be going to that too.

Day two (Either Saturday or Sunday, but probably Saturday) I’m planning on going to NYCC. If no one else is planning on meeting up then I might give that a miss, but I expect that there will be some people that want to meet for NYCC. I figure Saturday would be better for NYCC because of the panels, but as we saw last year it is incredibly crowded.

Any suggestions for the best day for the con?

I have struggled with putting a date and time down out of respect of those going to the Con. I felt bad for those traveling in having to go to the Con, leave, go Uptown, have lunch, turn around, go back.

Then I realized: Fuck it. This is a four day Con. Worst that could happen is that we book a time that coincides with the “Hot Scifi Dudes and Gals” panel. I defer those going to the Con for precise time, but let’s start the bidding at noon. We have had luck with Columbus Circle being an easily accesible spot for those all over Manhattan, which has the added bonus of having a Whole Foods for easy healthly food to procure.

When: October 13 (fallback of 14th)
Time: Noon
Where: Columbus Circle (someone please suggest an easy landmark…in the lobby with the big statue perhaps?)

Could meet at the Apple Store. Big glass cube Giant Apple logo, easy to see. Heck by then might go pick up IPhone 5 there.

Sounds like a plan. See ya then. Lobby. Big frakkin statue. That statue is frakkin weird. Just saying.

Traditionally, (Which means we did it once before) we met in front of Frakkintalos’ place of employment. It is a bit of the landmark in the area.

Where is the lobby with the big statue?

Thursday would probably be the best for lunch because NYCC is just starting and the big things will be on Friday and Saturday.

Raimani - Are you going? you are usually our point of contact and organization. If you are not going, we’ll have to designate an alternate for contact.

Isn’t the Apple store on the other side of the park?

Just down Central park South to be exact. The statue in Columbus circle could work as well. I’m down with that

Time Warner Building lobby. There is a huge, bulbous statue there.

I likely won’t be in the city until Thursday afternoon but I’ll see what I can swing. Friends I’m going with are driving down from Maine that morning. If I can’t make the Thursday meetup, I hope to meet up at some point with those going to the con!

I was OKed to have the whole four days off. And if you knew what kind of crrrrap has been going on at my work , you would know how surprised I am about that.

Anyway, I’m up for Thurday Lunch. Sandwiches in the park if it’s nice, or inside restaurant if it’s not. Like I mentioned before, I’ll be going to the AMNH afterward. Evolutiongirl - If you are in the city early enough you can join us at the museum. Otherwise I will have any of the other three days available for NYCC.

For those of you on the fence, Felicia Day will be there. Now to figure out when her panel is on.

FYI, if you want to get your tickets mailed out, Thursday 11:59PM is the last time you can order them in time for mailing.

Just bought my ticket! Got the 3 day pass, will probably be there 2 days tops.
I doubt I can make the thursday lunch, but if anyone wants to meet up some other time durring or around the con let me know.

Ok, vacation approved, new minions trained. So it looks like I’m gonna make in. I’m coming in from the far off land of Ohio. I’ll only be in for Saturday so I’m hoping we can schedule a Saturday evening meetup.

The Panels and Screenings schedule is now up:

For those who have been before, how easy or hard is it to get into the panels? It looks like some are just in rooms, and some are in the big halls. Is it like San Diego where you have to basically be in the auditoriums all day to get seats?

Well I have only been 2 a panel or two - one in one of the big rooms where we just walked in and sat down, another in one of the little rooms, and I sat down at the end of one panel and just stayed for the panel I wanted to see. Nothing like SDCC.

I would say if you want to sit up front then you may have to get there early, but if you just want to be in the room you can likely get there just before the panel

My plans for the weekend are: Thursday - GWC Lunch and Museum. Friday - NYCC, mostly panels and Dealers area shopping, and last but not least Saturday - NYCC, panels and GWC Dinner. Will we be eating at the Official GWC Irish pub for dinner or does anyone else have any other suggestions?

I like Irish pubs, so that sounds good to me. When and where will it be?

This one? Tir Na Nog

Hopefully it will be Saturday evening since it’s the only day I’m there.

I’m still figuring out my plans with the friends I’m going with as far as what time I’ll be in the city on Thursday and if I can make the lunch meetup. Should have it nailed down tomorrow. As for a Saturday night meetup of con-goers, the Avengers’ panel is 6:30-7:30. Do we want to meet after that?

Actually, it’s Stout on the other side of MSG than Tir Na Nog. We ate at Tir Na Nog for lunch and Stout for dinner.
