New Who (no spoilers)

Well I thought it was great. Just the right balance of scary and lighthearted with those nice creepy touches that will stick in kids minds, which Moffat is so good at. Totally bought Matt Smith as the Doctor and the new companion could well be the best yet of the new series. Loved the new Tardis as well.

Overall a great way to leave behind Russell T Excessive and start afresh.

I liked him as well. A little over the top last night, but hey, those regen hormones were cooking I guess! I felt it was a little rushed, the Prisoner Zero aspect could’ve been a whole show on its own, but they had to fit in all the regen stuff and the new Tardis.

I didn’t think he looked at young as he is (awful compliment). He matches with Amy when together, but then he also looks older than everyone at the same time.

I loved that he did the “What? What?..What?”

Didn’t like that camera work in the park. And it was a little too much “pop culture” hope they work that out.

I’m not sure about the companion though. She’s definitely brave and possibly clever enough, but I didn’t get that “click” from her.

Not sure if this is spoiler, but it’s my opinion based on what I saw so don’t want to cloud judgement so I’ll tag it.
All the other companions wanted something else in their lives but didn’t know what it was. I didn’t get that from her. She’s “willing” to go on an adventure, but not “looking” for one IYKWIM?
can’t wait for the next one, so they must’ve done something right!

Oh, and at the risk of giving away too much personal information…I love the new companion’s name!! <sigh> If only David Tennant could’ve been calling her name! LOL

She struck me as having the potential to be another Sarah Jane, i.e. fiesty and self reliant, not always needing the Doctor to save her and able to move the story forwards on her own (as opposed to just tagging along and asking questions). Just as long as she doesn’t end up falling love with him, we’ve had quite enough of that sort of thing thank you!

I absolutely agree. I like Amy, but if she starts mooning over the Doctor on the day before — ------- (sort of), which I totally called as soon as she said she had to be back tomorrow morning, I’m going to have a problem with her. I’m hoping Rory comes along for the ride at some point- I liked him and I’m a big fan of three people in the TARDIS.

The story was good and Matt Smith got off to a strong start. I’m really looking forward to the season, particularly Moffat’s approach to the season-long arc and the season finale.

I definitely like the new look of the Doctor
(and the new opening credits, though I’m less liking the new theme song arrangement)
, and it seems like it’ll be a fun ride this season with him, but -
especially in the beginning scene with the food spitting (it’s very Agatha Christie episode with the poisoned scene)
- he reminds me too much of Tenant in this first episode. I’m hoping he’d be more comfortable with the role later on so he could be put his own mark in his Doctor.

The episode was a good introduction for all things new, and the mystery alien are so very Moffat -
that the alien comes from something simple and something kids are scared of, like a crack in the wall
- but the actual story of how the Doctor saves the day and the action sequences didn’t feel all that suspenseful and maybe just a tad too hammy.

I’m really liking the idea of the companion’s relationship with the Doctor (since it’s Moffat time now,
I couldn’t help but think of The Girl in the Fireplace in terms of this particular relationship with the whole imaginary friend bit, and that the Doctor comes back to the girl a lot later than he expected - BUT, thankfully we already met River Song
from last season who is the more likely romantic interest for the Doctor rather than the companion (phew! We really cannot have another Rose/Martha Jones situation so soon again, fingers crossed). And then the
wedding dress reveal
reminds me of Donna just a little. So far, I like her, but we don’t really know too much about her other than who she is (even as a child) in relation only to the Doctor (and that she’s a kissagram), so it should be fun to get a clearer grasp on her personality (and maybe her townie friends) in the episodes to come.

I don’t think that you will have to worry about Amy falling love with The Doctor. If you watched “Silence in the Library” and “Forest of the Dead” you already know it is River Song that falls for him. Amy might be it won’t last and certainly won’t be as complicated as The Doctor and Rose

I just watched it and I too loved it. I still don’t completely know who the new Doctor is but that’s hard to do in the first episode. But to be fair i don’t think the new Doctor knows who he is at that point either. I also really like Amy the new companion. I think she will fall for the Doctor but like everyone falls for the Doctor but not as bad as Rose. It will take some getting used to but I think i will learn to love the look of the new TARDIS. The only thing i disliked was the new opening music. It just doesn’t sound right to me.

Agreed, didn’t care for the opening music. New Doctor looks like he was beaten to within an inch of his life by an ugly stick, but he pulled the character off pretty well.

Good episode!

Did anyone catch the end after the show was over. Where they show scenes from the up coming episodes. If you did, did you happen to catch one person in particular.
She’s back, that’s right the love of his life is back AKA River Song.
After I saw that I freaked for a moment cause I know we are in for a bumpy, no correct that VERY BUMPY RIDE ahead. And I can’t wait.

Yea its been leaked for a while that person will be returning…and it looks for a few episodes. They have been in other trailers as well.

What freaked me out was the shot with what appeared to be a dozen or so weeping angels. That freaked me out. When that ep airs i dont think i will be sleeping very well that night.

I saw it too, Sat night. LOVED it! So much fun! I never should have doubted that I would. Stephen Moffatt’s episodes were always my favorites. Why wouldn’t I like the Doctor he handpicked?

What? He’s adorkable! And I for one like the hair. Nor did I dislike the new arrangement of the opening music. I noticed it right away. I do agree that he does pull it off well. I totally bought him as the Doctor. If there’s anything I’m not liking so much, it’s the new logo. But I’ll get used to it, I’m sure.

I THOUGHT that was that person!
I wasn’t sure, because the hair was different, and she looked evil!
You and me both! We’ll have to find some videos of puppies and kitties for a frak party that night!

I know what you mean. That is going to be a very disturbing weekend. I hadn’t kept up with the leaks. Oh and Rory will be back in a few episodes. I did like the lil review the did of the Doctors when they realized who they were messing with. The new look of the inside wasn’t bad. I had hoped for a mod look like what Peter Davidson had. Oh well. Daleks in Spitfires, that should be fun.

Agreed, the statue-aliens from Blink are pretty scary. BTW, that’s my favorite episode (‘Blink’), and it’s funny that it also happens to have the least amount of Doctor and companion, heh. But absolutely my favorite.

Just watch this… I’m In.

I really wasn’t sure during the lead up to it… I bailed on the Doctor when Tom Baker left… I guess I am older wiser and more tolerant of change. Or maybe GWC has helped me stop hating first and watch for it’s own merit…

Anyway… I also don’t really care that they change the theme a little bit… In the years to come when I watch re-runs it will be easier to place it… the theme has also changed several times over the years so maybe i am just getting used to change.
don’t forget even the twilight Zone’s theme changed after the first season…

The feeling I got over the course of the episode was that he was acting more like Tenant at the start of the episode, and was shedding the manerisms/speech as he went along.

I’m hoping that was a deliberate characterisation choice (as it’d be pretty cool, and show Matt Smith as being a good actor), and being a physical representation of the regeneration process.

Aside from that, was a lot happier with Matt Smith than I thought I would be, and enjoyed the episode a lot. Really looking forward to the rest of the season now

I can’t wait for new Who to start here in the US! Just a few weeks away…

This was much better than I expected. I feel kind of guilty though, like I’m cheating on my darling DT.

I loved ep 1! Great directing, cinematography, writing, acting. It was scary and funny at the same time. Despite all I heard about budget cut backs cgi was much improved. HD is teh awesome as well. Eccleston is my first love but Matt Smith did a damn good job in this ep. Now if youll excuse me I have to write a love letter to Amelia Pond, the cutest scottish girl living in britain.

Just seen number three - I have to say it’s my favourite so far. Good writing (for the most part) from Mark Gatiss, and there’s a ruthless streak starting to show in Mark Smith’s performance.
Spitfires in space? And a dalek saying “Would you like a cup of tea?” What more could anyone ask?
Just saw the new Doctor, have to say very enjoyable. I really enjoyed MS first time out as the doctor.

I can really see that he seemed to be channeling DT’s Doctor but I hope that it is a representation of the regeneration process and that he begins to make the roll his own.

My favorite part was at the end, when my 9 year old daughter, who really liked DT, thought he is cute, turned to me and said “maybe he not that bad after all”
