Mass Effect

I am not a fan of Mass Effect, and i feel thats like saying “I dont think Ghandi was that good,” but there’s just so much that annoys me about the game

  1. The save system, if you’re going to autosave autosave every five minutes so we don’t lose hours of play time or don’t save at all so we know to save every five minutes. I swear I’ve played this game about 10 hours but only got to about 3 hours of content.

  2. The Battle system is annoying, it’s not quite a real shoot them up but its not quite turn based, its a horrible amalgamation which is best described as slow em up.

  3. The ‘dynamic’ speech system. So someone’s just told you something and the options sound really different
    a) NO way, GET LOST!
    b) Maybe we can co-operate
    c) ok, Ill give you the information
but then the actual speech is:
a)I don’t want to do that
    b) I can’t do that, but we could work together
    c) I’ll do that

It makes almost no difference

  1. I have to play through 3 times to unlock the achievements, isn’t a cheap attempt to get me to play the game again.

Those are just some of my complaint’s about this game, and not the biggest ones.

So what are your big complaints?:stuck_out_tongue:

I actually really hate the inventory system.

As far as the dialog wheel goes, it took me a bit to get comfortable with it. But here’s the trick: don’t select what you want Shepard to say. Select what you think. The game then interprets that into Shepard’s speech.

Sure, sometimes the differences are small. But they can be very, very satisfying.

As far as the inventory system goes, it doesn’t really bother me. Yeah, I can totally recommend some improvements – like not requiring you to go to the top each time when you sell an item or convert it to omni-gel. But it still gives you a remarkable number of different ways to get the same job done, which means you get to express yourself differently.

And by “express yourself,” I mean blow shit up.

Personally, I like the combat system. It makes for a nice balance between turn-based detail and Halo-style spray-the-room-with-bullets. Until you get in the swing of stopping the action and putting your whole team to work, you end up pretty ineffective. Once you get it down, you can mow the world over – which is fun.

Anyway, I respect where you’re coming from. It’s totally a personal thing. But I’m still having a great time on my second time through.

I’m sorry, are there other definitions that I am not familiar with?

The combat wheel thing is my BFF… I don’t know how many times it’s saved my bacon when the bullets are flying and I’m running like a mad man… pause… breathe… think… let go and keep running!!!

Now, let us ponder bacon.

mmmm…

I am nearing the finale and I was wondering… will I be able to go back and do the side quests if I finish the main story line? Also, will delaying the finale change the outcome?

Thanks guys

There is a point in the game where there is no going back. You’re last chance to do any side quests is before the Ilos mission but you wont be able to go back to the Citadel.

Are you kidding me? I’m not much of a gamer, but I’m going to have to pick up a copy. Thanks GWC crew, you guys have taken even more money out of my pocket lol

Most of what I do is listen to GWC on my iPod while playing staw wars battlefront 2 on my PSP. And I really want Mass Afect for my mac using VM ware fusion.

Well, tomorrow I will be downloading this. It will be pretty cool to finally see the Batarians.

frak. guess i’ll go wait for the original on PC.

:frowning:

Well, I felt like McClane from the original Die hard playing this one. actually took me two hours, but I was playing on insanity. It was fun, and the reward you get is awesome. For five $ not to bad; plus there is a paragon or renegade ending. If some one beats it on renegade, let me know how it goes please.

I’ll try to download it tonight if I can get some free time. Does anyone know if they’re planning more downloadable content until the release of Mass Effect 2? I guess it will depend on the success/feedback of this one.

I MUST download this when I get home!!! Damn you school!

Once again, playing this game is going to get me into trouble with not studying. :frowning:

To be honest was i the only one a little disappointed by it i mean most of it was the same 3 rooms, until the end with the one new main room

but if you go renegade the options in the end were pretty damn funny.

Its not fair really, i mean it was cheap, and it came out very quickly, and is only the first in a series. i guess when your talking about ME i just had unreasonably high expectation

The thing that bothers me is that I can’t play it on my highest level character because he beat the game. I just don’t have the desire to replay it, even on renegade. Maybe I will in time, and then I’ll have 2 expansions to play.

I hear you on the same environments, but I felt Bioware did a good job with the lighting and arranging the layouts. On insanity, I had some epic firefights, and the last one with the tree in the middle of the room was awesome. Basically I was forced behind a wall on the upper floor and hoards of batarians were rushing me. Low on shields I rushed to the room’s center and decided Sheppard was going to go out in a blaze of glory. Miraculously, I survived, but after the cut scene, I was taken out by a single droid rocket launcher. So it was a lot of fun for me.

Since Xbox games usually add 250 achievement points with add-ons, I think we will see at least four more downloads.

read an article on it today, and it looks like you lucky PC gamers are going to get a revamped inventory system and decryption mode. Plus the game looks slightly better from the pics I have seen.

Any word of PC requirements needed yet? I imagine they’ll be quite high.

I am not a PC gamer (other than for civilization), but I imagine that judging by the quality of the graphics in the screen shots that they will be quite high. It will probably be comparable to the specs you need to run Oblivion on the PC.

I can handle oblivion… mostly. I really must get around to getting a new PC
