Mass Effect News!

Gratz on the Reaper mastery ThPrime!

Yeah, no love for me again this week for the achievement. The only gold weapon medal I’ve gotten before was a few weeks ago on a map where 2 of the 4 folks in the PUG bailed on the first wave, and another guy and I cleaned up (and I totally missed the extract /sigh). Lots of silver weapon medals, and once I gave up, gold tech medals (flamer FTW).

And that does look like it might be Generic ManShep he’s talking to.

Thank you! That boosted me into the top 5% on achievements, but I see you have since ascended to the top 4% (and top 2% N7!) over on the PS3. DAMMIT! Objective cloaked! Snipers, fire at will.

 Yeah, I’m kinda working on the Commando Mastery award still (Grrr, Disciple shotgun is taking forever) but grinding through wave after wave on the Bloodpack Mastery award is taking up most of my time. I’m having a ton of fun as a DPS machine with the vorcha soldier, and after that the plan is to rotate onto the Batarian Slasher.

I only managed to accomplish the challenge by soloing with the Vorcha Hunter. Submission Net and Bloodlust were my best friends during that match. I wouldn’t have made it without them.

Let the wild speculation begin: EDIT: Turns out all the single player co-op stuff was an interwebz rumor after all… Thanks to ThPrime for digging it up

Ok guys, TSA has datamined the Mass Effect 3 patch released last night. Couple of take aways.

 1. BioWare blanked out most of the easy stuff in the patch - they’ve likely got something up their shifty collective Albertan and Quebecois sleeves. http://www.clevernoob.com/forums/index.php?/topic/2703-datamining-todays-patch-dlc-info-incoming/ and http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/343/index/15753257/1

 2. What some people have teased out is very cool:

Okay, based on what I’ve found so far I’d say this “leaked” description of the new multiplayer DLC is likely legit:

“The day of reckoning is nigh! The Reckoning Multiplayer Expansion brings six new never before seen co-op story missions to the game and new co-op gameplay modes. It provides four new maps to conquer and hazard variations of the Earth maps. It also enables reinforcement packs that offer new kits for the salarians, krogans, humans and volus. In-game reinforcement packs now include three new weapons (Chakram Launcher, Blood Pack Punisher and Adas Anti-Synthetic Rifle).”

At the very least, we knew they were looking at new gameplay modes for MP at the time the collectors were added, and this patch references a new multiplayer mode as well as all of those weapons being added to MP.

I’m calling this “Tentatively highly likely”

Multiplayer story co-op mode. Yes Please.

Oh yeah… something about Operation: FIRESTORM

I really hope this turns out to be true because I’d enjoy playing co-op. Don’t get me wrong I play plenty of multiplayer as it is, I’m pushing the 400 hour mark, but this would make sure I keep playing.

ol_whatshername: with a “top 1%” N7 ranking on the N7 HQ leaderboards, I bow before you (my paltry 167hrs, and the accompanying spousal-agro I’ve generated, don’t compare). No question that you play plenty of multiplayer

Any new Mass Effect content is great by me.

Oh happy day, another gold medal challenge. Killstreak +3 is the gold killstreak medal and for good reason. It is all but non-existent in my PUGS. Craaaap.

Unlike the common kill streak for most games, ME3 has a peculiar requirement:
Five weak unarmored opponents in one second: Swarmers, Seekers, Troopers, Husks, Abominations
Two high level armored opponents in one second: Atlas, Geth Prime, Banshee, Praetorian, Brute
Any five mid level armored and/or shielded opponents: They’re spread out, don’t bunch up, and don’t come in groups of five. In one second? Doubt it.

This is a squad medal, “five enemies killed as a squad in one second”, so solo five at once or five must fall anywhere on the map, doesn’t matter which, as long as this occurs in a one second window.

Cobra Missile Launcher, Recon Mines, Striker AR, Falcon AR, maxed damage frag grenades. Anything with high, immediate, burst damage with some area of effect. DOT stuff like incendiary is probably too slow for the one second window. These don’t require voice comms and cooperation. What about biotic or tech combos? Sure, but good luck doing that thrice in a match without a lot of talkative coordination.

Really easy or really hard?

Progress Report: 0 Kill Streaks! Hopefully the night shift PUGS will at least try.

After Action Report: Per Bioware Bryan and Operation Firestorm for Dummies. Colonel Drellfiltrator in the Glacier with the Wraith boomstick. Did it in one, but I didn’t enjoy the cheese. RedJohn says you can do it even on Platinum. What was in the box? Valiant +1.

Yeah, I’m dreading this week - gonna bring out the missile launcher and see if I can spam some groups. fingers crossed

puresophistry: Data Miner Who Discovered Mass Effect DLC Leak “Reckoning” Was Misquoted

TSA saying Gamespot’s reporting was sloppy and other sites sloppily copied Gamespot, ignoring the likely qualifier. True, but the anonymous X-Box marketplace description is either fabricated or verbatim. Whatever the case, this DLC story has Google news alerts working overtime. And now there’s a story about the DLC story.

Well, my fingers are crossed so we’ll see…

PUGing my way through the weekend and OPERATION: Firestorm wasn’t going too well until I ended up in match with a bunch of missile freakz. Turns out if everyone is freaking out with missiles in rounds 9 & 10 you can luck out and get the gold Killstreak medal. W00t! Commendation pack had an N7 Valiant V in it. I’m not a big sniper rifle guy, but nice to get the upgrade tho.

Finished off 200 rounds with the Batarian Slasher over the weekend and now I’m at ~140 rounds with the Batarian Brawler (Vanguard) on route to the BloodPack Mastery Challenge. Vanguard with the Graal Spike thrower is a fun combo, but not really my preferred play style. I’ll be glad when I get the 200pts on the Graal and can move on…

On Mass Effect DLC, till they do something that is after the end. Even an epoligoue. Where the end would change by the past DLC out. Its a good closed book in my mind. I am really not seeing the why to buy.Right now dealing with Borderlands 2 filling up my hardrive along with the free stuff for ME3 I still have on there. Outside of someone wanting me to play a game I have left ME2 and 3 alone. I may dive in again when I pick up ME1 again. Though keep in mind I am almost over what ME1, which I was really pissed off at it and Biowear for it. The short of it is, after ME1 I stopped buying Biowear products sight unseen.

The DLC for ME3 so far has all been inserted into the main game, none taking place after the ending. I’d bet good money it says that way.

By the way… ThPrime it looks like you bagged the Squad Elite Challenge over the weekend! Gratz!!

Which why they won’t have my good money. Seeing how I am on the opinion that the orginal ending was better then the extended ending. Flaws it might of have, but it left enough open where you could make your own interpations. That is the main reason why I haven’t felt more then it is good book that has closed. DLC so far hasn’t given me a reason to go back. An epologoe of some short, or something after would give me the insentive to purchase past DLC. Since it would feel like things have changed. ME3 single player I haven’t been back since I beat it with my MalShep and FemShep. I’ve only been back to the multiplayer when I have the time to do a 30 or hour long match.

Then it’s highly likely that you won’t play any of the story DLC as the devs have repeatedly stated since before the game came out there will be no DLC that takes place after the events of 3, which makes sense since two of the endings have Shepard dead.

The thing is I am wanting it to effect the end in some way. Any DLC that changes the end in any way, such as at the wall before the final attack for example. An epologe level or mission with the people to see how things effected the universe around them, is what I want since I feel the end left me wanting to know more. How did this effect the world, was this all good. Did some bad things happen. What happen to the crew that do survive. Things like that. That would give me reason to dive back in with new DLC.

Unfortunately that won’t be happening. Bioware already changed the ending as much as they are going to, which is more than I ever expected. They may have a DLC add an extra line or two at the end but that’s the most they will do because they intended for us to decide how things turned out after defeating the Reapers. They might possibly touch on some of that stuff in the next Mass Effect game if they decide to set it after ME3, but they won’t touch any of that in ME3 DLC.

Well, I’ve stated this on the Bioware forums, Joystiq and a few other places, so I might as well reiterate it here.

I’m just looking forward to more content regardless of where or when it’s set, or who it features. It gives me a chance to explore more of the Mass Effect universe and not just the game; and that’s a good thing. For me, it was all about the journey; the experiences along the way, the characters I met and the choices that my Shepard made. In ME2 I was pissed off and working (grudgingly) with Cerberus, and my Shepard was more renegade. In ME3, my Shepard was back within the establishment and on the straight and narrow, and went paragon. For me, the additional storytelling elements that I added to the game justifying my decisions made it less about the game, and more about the grander setting.

As geeks, nerds, gamers, roll-players or whatever other title society chooses to hang on us, I’m pretty sure we all share active and creative imaginations. If the ending pisses you off, that doesn’t have to be where the story ends. I know that I re-wrote the ending in my head despite having chosen synthesis in-game just to see that ending. I know that destruction was the right thing to do, and that humanity would be able to scrape together the Alliance, bringing the Quarians back into the fold despite having wiped out the Geth. In my universe some Geth source code survived and will probably find a way back into new mechanical constructs, and yes, there are still pockets of dormant Rachni that the Salarians and Shepard didn’t know about. I still don’t trust the Krogan, and I don’t think anyone should, especially with Urdnot Wreav in charge.

The universe is a frackin’ big place and I want to see more of it.
