Life is teh suck today because (a.ka. the official B_tch & Moan thread)

You wanna know what’s pissing me off? Well, there are a lot of things pissing me off (my mother-in-law comes to mind. Man, things are TENSE with her right now!), but the one freshest in my mind at the moment is the NY State Dept. of Labor. I’m collecting unemployment for the summer since I’m between jobs (and, thus, paychecks). Someone at my old employer’s misinformed the labor dept. of why I had left and my benefits checks have thus been frozen now for four weeks. My old employer, however, has taken steps to fix this and is only waiting for reply from Labor. When I try to talk to someone at the labor dept. I have to sift through five minutes’ worth of unskippable menu options (meaning I have to listen to every pre-recorded menu prompt even though I’ve memorized what my options are because I can’t type my response any time) only to get to the point when I am given the option of talking to someone and find out that they’ve got too high a volume of calls and they will not be able to take my call. This seldom changes, whether I call at 4:55 p.m., noon or 10 in the morning.

Damn beuraucrats! Bunch of lazy, no good swindlers!

Yeah the government sucks when it comes to administration. Every time I have to deal with something like unemployment, DMV etc. I always think of Hitchhiker’s Guide.

In my ideal world, bureaucracy would only exist to make things more efficient. But then it wouldn’t be bureaucracy, would it?

To add to TF’s list - immigration is hellish, too. And Armando - man do I feel the high volume of calls. Then they tell you to call back at midnight right before they close, and still, no. Or you call at 6 AM, and still, no. That was truly teh suck. But it doesn’t make your situation any better.

Maybe it will help you feel better to know that I didn’t get a stimulus check because I married a foreigner (even though I’m a citizen?)? And that I still haven’t gotten my state tax refund, even though I filed back at the beginning of April, and they say it shouldn’t take more than 6 weeks? They’re another menu that’s not fun to go through…

Topgun I hope you are feeling better. Please take it easy and listen to your body. Pain does have a purpose.

Just remember the bee that got you is dead. I never fight gravity. It is a law and it always wins.

I recommend watching Dr. Horrible again with wine and whatever vodka drink you had the first time. That oughta kill the pain.

You need a Freeze Ray to stop.

The pain.

I would recommend wine it is a great muscle relaxer. I have had back problems since I was around 25 and drink wine for medicinal purposes. I would be careful with the Dr. Horrible. Hearty laughter could be painful.

What the hell? Why couldn’t you get a check because you are married to a foreigner? I thought one became a citizen if you marry an American citizen. Even still that’s beside the point. You pay taxes, right?

Ah. Well. He is eligible to apply for citizenship 3 years after entering the country with his green card (and we aren’t to the 3 year point yet), which is less than the 5 that are required for legal residents who aren’t married to citizens. And it’s an average 18 month process for the citizenship application, so not for awhile. But we still pay taxes.

Someone (ahem) decided that there must be absolutely no chance of non-legal residents getting a stimulus check, even if it applies to an American citizen, and the immigrant in question is a legal resident. Because, you know, legal immigration isn’t at all different from illegal immigration. (/sarcasm) And they don’t publicize it, either, because people would get mad. So yeah, little old me, law abiding US-born American citizen, and husband, law abiding legal resident, don’t get a stimulus check.

not at all?

that is teh suck. srsly.

QFT

That is total bull (sorry Barb).

That is frakkin ridiculous, but alas all too typical. One’s immigrant status does not affect one’s ability to stimulate the economy…

unless of course it forces one to work for less than a legal wage :frowning:

And foreigners pay MORE taxes than we do. My best friend is a British national who has lived in the U.S. since the mid-1990’s and he’s always bitching about how his visa renewals (now green card application, since he’s married now and, you know, kind of wants to stick around with his wife) get fraked up and he has to face all this suspicion from the government even though when it comes down to take his money, they’re more than glad to do it and take more than the average citizen’s.

Man Casilda, not getting a stimulus check is one thing, but your tax refund? That sucks! Out loud!

While I’m whining, though, here’s one more thing that’s been really bugging me lately: my poor wife hasn’t been able to find a job yet. She’s frantically looking and working her butt off to find one, and still nothing (even though there’s a lot of work out there).

And speaking of government effectiveness, she’s currently filling out seven essay questions to supplement the application for a government job that took her two hours to fill yesterday. For a clerical administrative assistant job. (Then again, political appointees have a horrible confirmation process, so this is hardly surprising.)

Summer 2008: The summer everything I owned broke.

We just had the 4th aniversery of having 3 hurricanes in 6 weeks. Now there looks like we may get another one.

Well, stay safe, Leah. And hang in there.

Board up and head north if thinks start to look ugly. I’m keepin an eye out too. My folks live down in your area. Jsut the other side. I’m pretty safe up in Tally we are pretty land locked. and hurricanes tend to not like us.

Not to be a downer but that was what they said about central Florida four years ago. I live pretty much central state and the hurricanes just ran across the gulf to the ocean. I live in the area the coastal people went to keep safe. OOOOPs.

This morning’s forecast looks like it may miss the state.

You know that new truck I posted in the “cool craaaaap” thread? I have to pay tax, title, and license today. :frowning:
