A pigeon is fodder for birds of prey. Lee, a viper jock, was ineffectually trying to eject the pigeon. So, in essence, Lee was prescient in his warding off of the pigeon as it was really Baltar and all his annoyances (as yet unrealized, that is, im-potent, without the potency of being, that is, yet to occur) he was fighting against vis. potency, of which Baltar has much, and which any sort of jock is pressured to have, therefore, and because all this has happened before and will happen again, Lee was remembering his future-past when warding the pigeon–that is Baltar’s manliness–because Baltar (that is, Baltart) laid Starbuck which creates jealous (Jealous God?) feelings in Lee. To sum up, Lee wants Kara and attacked a being with a “little pecker” IYKWIM since he cannot have her. BUT, sometimes, a pigeon is just a pigeon. But that is not the case. Radical feminism would have the bird (A goddess symbol) dominated by the male–a PIG-eon–which is why Lee attacks it . . . . . .

Wow!!! That’s really really really deep. REALLY REALLY REALLY DEEP. I don’t even think the writers thought of half of that as a possible meaning.

Yes, I thought the pigeon was supposed to be Zack too, which is pretty cliched in Asian cultures. There are dozens and dozens of movies and tv that uses a bird - pigeon, sparrow, etc - to symbolize a dead person’s reincarnation (buddhism and all). So, I guess that’s why I just assumed it was Zack. (btw, is it Zach or Zack? Not that it really matters.)

Maybe it’s a way to tell the audience that this Lee scene occurred right after Zack’s death without saying it in words. Hence all the drinking, and intolerance of birds, even if it happens to be your dead brother’s spirit.

I got the impression that Lee saw the pigeon the same night he went to Zack and Kara’s for dinner . . . I have to re-watch and check to see if his clothes were the same - but he was muttering something I don’t actually remember but it seemed like something Kara might have said to him . . . I just took from that scene that he fell for her that night . . .

After re-watching the episode, I got the sense that the pigeon is meant to symbolize Baltar. I think Baltar reminds him of the brother he lost because Lee has felt compelled to defend him in the past, but makes it clear that he despises him (sounds like brotherhood to me).
After rejecting Baltar’s request, Lee seems guilty in the way he forced him to relent. The pigeon scene immediately follows. Lee is reliving a fond memory of his brother (I double dog dare you) and then angrily shoos out the intruding bird.
I think, in the finale Baltar will finally perform his selfless act.

ok, so anyone who has been in Europe knows that Pigeons are known for pooping on gods and heroes. Every master piece devoted to worship gets pooped on over there. So I think that pigeon is trying to poop on Apolo, because Apolo is the name of a god, and Lee is god.

we all know that rdm just liked the imagery, right? like many things, we’d love for a deeper meaning to exist, but it’s kind of just rdm throwing stuff into the air.

He says the pigeon does not represent anything . . . he just likes the imagery.

Eh, . . . I have my own theory on the pigeon. I think the pigeon represents Kara. I see it as the imagery that is appropriate to the storyline and that Lee could not have known what it meant until he saw Kara just “fly” away. When the pigeon left, that was when Kara left. It was foreshadowing that Lee could not have understood until Kara left. I think that when she did leave, he realized that Kara was a bird that he could not keep in a gilded cage. She showed herself out just liked the bird showed itself out.

I am surprised that I haven’t read anyone else likening the pigeon to Kara.
