James Cameron's Avetar

First trailer for James Cameron’s Avetar!

I love that video so much. I have seen it like 3 or 4 times already today.

Funniest part was when I saw the thread title I thought, “Whoops, typo. I’ll fix that.” Then I watched the video. Aha. Avetar reinstated.

Yeah, adding a (sic) to the thread title may have spoiled the effect a bit…

Hah, I saw that.

Wow! The CGI gets better and better. I mean, I felt like I could pick those pink leaves right off the screen. I just hope they’re true to the story. I don’t remember the frolicking in the fields.

Hey! Who corrected my spelling!

I won’t name names, but his name rhymes with Spadgerboon. He made the same mistake I made, no worries. Fixed…and by that I mean, misspelled. Again.

Damn, this thread is just mod-bait.

the CGI is frakkin amazing! And I know Sean loves that Mech!!

I almost just fixed it again. This time I finally got curious why it kept getting switched back.

You ain’t kiddin’.

Yeah, I can’t wait to see it in real 3D. I’m sure the fuzzyness in the preview is just because we aren’t wearing 3D glasses. :stuck_out_tongue:

Panties untwisted? Check.

I have to admit that I’m having big doubts about this movie. The humans seem as convincingly portrayed as we might expect from Cameron. But the aliens seem to conform to a European fantasy of non-technological cultures that, by virtue of their essential simplicity, are both closer to nature and more virtuous. In other words they are a cliche rather than a well-conceived SF premise. I’ll go see it, naturally, but I won’t be rooting for those elves.

Yeah. What you said. (Way more eloquently than I could.)

Besides that, I’m holding a grudge about the whole stealing of he Avatar name thing.

You’re too kind.:o

I’m glad i’m not the only one with trepidation when it comes to this film. When this first was talked about i was stoked. After seeing what the film will be about i’m seriously disappointed. This particular storyline has been done adnauseum how many times? Heck there was atotal cgi film released last year that did a similar story. At this point it will be a nextfix for me when it gets there. Unless there is something spectacular i need to see first.:frowning:

The new trailer is out and it looks much better than I previously thought from the teaser. Some of it reminds me a lot of Scalzi. I’m looking forward to seeing this in December.

Glad I am not alone on that. The central idea is very Scalzi. The rest is such a basic 101 plot I feel like I have seen this movie already. The natives are on a precious resource! They don’t want to move! We want them to move! One of us empathizes with them and is torn! Chaos ensues! Big battle! Guess who wins between the natives with spears and advanced weaponry (here is a hint…did you see Return of the Jedi?)

Yeah! Being able to drop rocks from space is no match for spears! I do want to see the movie, but I’m torn because it does look like they started with a Scalzi story line, but then panicked and tried to make it “Main stream”. At least the equipment looks more like real military equipment than what we normally see in sci-fi.
