So I was wondering about the rental car issue. Could someone who has been before let me know if lack of a car becomes a problem? If I can save the $100 by not renting, I’ll do it. But I could also suck it up and rent some wheels.

I know that feeling. Was glad to be able to use air miles and get an extremely cheap ticket this time.
Right now it’d be cheaper for me to buy miles to pad out my balance to book a flight than to straight out book it. 
But I have hope… 
i’ve registerd for delta air miles, since i’m doing somewher in the region of 9 frakking thousand i should be able to get some benefit from it.

Yeah, that’s what I did. Was only a couple thousand short for a ‘free’ flight, so I bought extra. All in all, a $700 flight was reduced down to around $100 (airfare taxes + miles)… so yeah, definitely worth it.
As a frequent Meetup driver, I’ll go out on a limb and say there is usually somebody to get a ride from. I’ve scrunched quite a few GWCers into my rental cars
As a huge Starbuccaneer fan I’ll say: If there’s room, you’ll always have a ride with this GWCer.
Well I gotta get more and a couple thousand miles but it will still be more affordable if fares don’t change. I’m hoping not to have to use this option though. With the trip to TX, I’d then have enough for a free trip to see friends in CA later, but will do what I have to do.

As far as rides, I’ll have my car as I am driving down there. So I’ll be willing to give anyone a ride to places, provided you shower and/or bathe in some way on a regular basis (at least during the meetup weekend)
