Funny vid, thanx for bringing it to us dxf

Just went last night to the NY premiere of “Iron Man” and the movie totally rocks. Jon Favreau did a great job translating the character of Tony Stark to the big screen. Unlike most of the other Marvel and DC heroes, Tony Stark (a cross between Howard Hugues and Einstein) doesn’t have any superpowers beside being a genius and a builder.

Jon Favreau’s choice to have as many practical effects on set as possible (as opposed as an all-CGI movie) is paying as it’s grounding much more the movie in reality. The CGI scenes are all really done and it’s just exhilarating watching Iron Man flying above LA as Tony’s testing the limits of the armor.

Finally the cast is just bringing the movie to another level with great performances from Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow. To say that Downey Jr was the ideal choice for the role of Tony Stark is an understatement. He really nails the transformation from a selfish womanizer CEO of a company designing weapons for the military who doesn’t care about the damages made by his creations to a real super-hero.

All in all a great start to the summer movies season! Which should be a great year with Indy 4, The Dark Knight, X-Files 2, The Incredible Hulk coming out in the next few months

I’m going on Thursday. I can’t wait. It looks awesome.

i also can’t wait to see RDJ’s work in Tropic Thunder, looks hilarious.

I’m really glad to read a positive review of Iron Man. The trailers look cool as heck & I have no prior idea who or what Iron Man is. My son is intrigued by it too. Yeah, I’ll be going to see this one. Thanks for the review!

I have always been a huge fan of RDJ…even through all his personal issues. The line that put me on notice that this movie would be awesome is simply the cut to RDM in the trailer where he says,

“There is a rumor that I am a super hero…I am not a super hero type” which totally plays against the reaction of the press to RDM being cast.

Brilliant. So excited about this.

One word on RDJ: Chaplin

First time I stood up and took notice. Been a fan eversince.

I’m just back from seeing it. Very enjoyable. A nice way to start the summer movie season.

Just one thing (I’ll spoiler box it, but it’s not really giving to much away. Regarding casting)
Wasn’t Samuel L Jackson supposed to be in this movie as Nick Fury
Without spoiling anything and to answer your question: stay until after the end credits!

I was calling my girlfriend today, an old friend had asked me if I wanted to go see Iron Man this weekend and so I thought I’d ask her if she wanted to come with.
Long story short: there was a lot of confusion because there’s another movie coming out these days called “Iron Man”, it’s the biography of a German triathlete.

Not actually funny, but you see where the thin red line between the geek and the non-geek world lies…

You’ve got to be fraking with me. We stayed a good bit into them, until after they changed to the normal type. Everyone else left, I assumed that at least someone would know something. I wish there was a site that would list all the movies that have bonus content post credits.

If you’re not planning on seeing it again, you might find what you’re looking for on the youtubes  (like here)

Me, the wifey, and the three boys are going to see it Saturday, a rare ‘full-family’ movie event. Hope the annoying couple who have been sitting behind me for the past 13 years talking nonstop aren’t there Saturday. I’m expecting greatness.

No, they’re already in the special hell.

Video seems to have been removed already. A quick search didn’t find any other copies. I might go see it again anyway, it was very enjoyable.

So is this worth seeing? I’ve never been a big Iron Man fan, except for the Toyfare version that is, but every time I see a trailer for this thing it makes me want to see it more and more (my wife is sick of me saying, “I kinda wanna see that” every time it comes on TV). NPR gave it quite a mixed review this morning (they liked the performances and FX work but thought the script was a bit of a hodge podge), though I doubt that an NPR review is really what I want to base my wanting to see a super hero movie on.

Besides, it’s nice to see Robert Downey Jr. on screen again. He’s a damn fine actor whose personal issues have unfortunately kept him out of mainstream work for too long. It sounds like he’s gotten himself clean for a long stretch now, possibly licking his addictions once and for all, and it seems like that, given Tony Stark’s backstory, would make him a perfect casting choice for this part.

So, should I spend $10-12 on this or wait till the DVD in a few weeks?

I love that they gave ‘equal time’ to the sequel to Chocolat.

Iron Man kicks ass. I saw it last night. Run, don’t walk. After we left the theatre, my friends and I tried to decide if it was better than Batman Begins or not, with people arguing both sides pretty vehemently. It’s pretty much the perfect start of summer movie. Plus, trailers for Dark Knight, Indiana Jones 4, and Speed Racer, among others. And, as has been previously mentioned, stay 'til after the credits.

I know, right? BLECH!

Though I heard the author of that book on another show last week and she explained that the book, The Girl without a Shadow, has a different title in the UK, The Lollipop Shoes, which I think is better.

Katebo sez:

So it could be at least as good as Batman Begins? I’m there. I love that movie and think it very well may be the best superhero movie ever made.
