Iron Man vs Master Chief

So, it struck me in this past week’s podcast, Tony Stark is essentially a genius in a super-suit. I know I’m over simplifying here, but I had to wonder, who would win in a fight, Iron Man, or Master Chief?

Having listened to Chuck and Sean going on about setting the rule and parameters, I set forth the following limitations.

Iron Man is defined as the pretty red suit that Tony Stark has in the Iron Man movie, circa the time he goes to fight in Afghanistan with it.

Master Chief as seen in Halo 2 and 3, with the stronger shields that negated our need for health packs.

Each Contestant is limited to his ‘usual’ equipment. (IE for Stark, you’ve got the boosters, chaff, the icing problem solved, and the hand cannon things. He has enough power to run them, as he has the regular arc reactor in place., for Master Chief we will assume he has your choice of a battle rifle or assault rifle primary, and a pistol or SMG secondary, along with three of each plasma and frag grenades) No crazy missile systems, or Spartan Lasers.

Each Contestant has his associated AI. Stark has whatever his home system that was connected to the suit, and Master Chief has Cortana implanted in his suit.

No Vehicles. (Yes I know, Tank beats everything. But that’s not the issue at stake here)

A battleground that does not favor one over the other.

Iron Man probably has better weapons, but I imagine Master Cheif has much better armor, since it is seveal hundred years more advanced. But Iron Man can fly. Have to think about this one.

Iron Man only has one real plus in most situations, technological disparity. He may be a brilliant engineer but without the suit the guy is out of luck.
Id predict Master Chief as the victor if all you gave him was a dirty loincloth and a sharpened tooth brush, the man is a tactical savant.

ETA: I clicked on the topic thinking it was Iron Man versus Master Chef, which my addled brain interpreted as Iron Man vs Iron Chef. Now that would be a great fight!

I say Iron Man. Mostly cause i play Master Chief from my pov and my Master Chief tends to get shot in the head and dies often.

Plus Iron Man can fly is much more nimble and can blow up a tank. And as stated in the original post Tank beats everything but if Iron Man beats tank than that makes him the clear winner.

Iron Man would kick Iron Chefs…wait …Master Chief?? Ohhhh

Might still have to go with Iron Man, by a hair

Iron Man for sure. The goatee plays.

Although to be fair Master Chief never had a drinking problem so It probably depends on time frame.

A great DM Fallen. Well laid out and constructed worthy of a quarter. In this match up I would have to give the edge to Iron Man b/c MC doesn’t have the heavy barrells he’s used to having while bringing the big bosses down. Though his armor would IMO hold up quite well the advantage would have to go to Stark in the end - but he’d take a bunch of damage doing it.

Totally agree w/Sean: This is a seriously worthy DM!

Gotta go with Iron Man given the well-laid-out terms. Specifically, Iron Man can fly whereas the MC’s stuck in the dirt. Totally agree, too, that MC’s shield is a big advantage. But it’s pretty much negated by Iron Man’s better weapons and maneuverability.

But hey – don’t take my opinion as a knock against MC. MC would totally rule if we un-capped his equipment. Then again, if we uncapped Iron Man’s equipment it’d be a slaughter. EXTREMIS-Iron Man would be a total Spartan match, and he’d have access to pretty much the total global infrastructure. Plus some killer weapons.

I went Iron Man over Master Chief (no-brainer, really,) but if it was Tony Stark vs. John-117, that’d be a different kettle of fish.

Hell if you gave Stark the Hulk Buster suit it would be a cake walk for Iron Man. But even in the normal armor i think Iron Man has the advantage.

Don’t forget, as evidenced many times in the games, Cortana is an infiltration AI.

All MC would have to do is get close to Iron Man and Cortana could shut his whole system down. I doubt his suit-computer is hardened against cyber-attacks from the systems that will exist in 2552.

Remember what happened to the Colonial Fleet?!?!?!

I’m trying not to be a Halo fan boy here but the way I see it…

MC is a crack shot with any gun you put in his hand, and considering a flying suit of armor is easier to hit (uness he’s supersonic, in which case he’s not going to be able to attack MC anyway) than one hiding behind cover on the ground Iron Man would pretty much have to meet him face to face on the ground because eventually MC is going to get through his armor with a projectile weapon.

Hand to hand I still have to give it to MC. They seem to be equals in strength, Iron Man caught a car in the first movie, MC can flip an assault vehicle with one hand, but I think there are three ways it could end:

  1. MC is a hand-to-hand combat specialist, Iron Man is a rich guy in a suit. Not a difficult outcome to figure: Iron Man Fail.

  2. MC sticks Iron Man with a plasma grenade (or why not two!?!?) while they’re engaged and lets his shields take the blast. Iron Man Fail.

  3. The aforementioned Cortana cyber-attack.

The whole problem is the Chief’s shields. Whatever Iron Man does he has to do it in ONE fast attack, because MC’s shields are just going to regenerate, and I haven’t seen anything in Iron Man’s personal armory that is going to take down MC’s shields and crack his suit in a matter of seconds. He couldn’t defeat the armor suit in the first movie, he had to get Pepper to blow up the reactor in the room below to stop it.

Stark is my age, these days. He’s played Marathon. He’d have Cortana go Rampant in no time. Chief is screwed.

is Iron Man impervious to EMP weapons?

I take that back. A huge blast from the reactor in Iron Man’s chest at point blank range might put a hole clean through Master Chief.

Plus I just remembered that Iron Man has a missile launcher in his suit. He blew up that tank in Afghanstan with it.

For me, it’s a really close fight. Sheesh. Umm… errr… aw man…

I still give it to Master Chief on the ridiculous grounds that Cortana is hotter than some stuffy psuedo-British household management software.

Ugh, seriously though, I’m going to have to reverse my vote and go with Iron Man. John is probably more persistent than Tony in that he won’t give up until he’s dead, but I don’t think he’s got as much of that “come atcha sideways” as Tony. I don’t think he’s got as much “outside the box thinking” ability as Tony either.

I’m SUCH a heretic.

I’m with you. I think Master Chief would pull it off, despite having long odds against an opponent with the flight capabilities and mental screwballsiness of Iron Man. It’s his dogged persistence.

I really just keep seeing the plasma grenade hitting Iron Man in the face, and him scrambling madly to get that ‘blue spider’ off his forehead. If Master Chief could avoid Iron Man’s killshot while the shields were down, I think he’d have the advantage, especially since all the damage he did would be reducing Iron Man’s capability.

For the benefit of those not on the RvB train… (NSFW)

Except we’re talking about Tony Stark here. Drop him into the Halo universe and a montage later he’s tooling around in an upgraded suit.

Dump them both in an arena with just what either happens to have, and my money’s still on repulsars vs automatic rife and grenades.

i haven’t casted my vote yet, maily because i don’t know much about these two.

from what little I understand, Iron Man is equipped with an EMP weapon, and installed a device in the suit to maintain minimum functionality in the suit when that going off.

I think Master Chief has EMP weapons.

So assume if someone else used an EMP weapon on Iron Man and that backup device gives Iron Man minimum functionality, what kind of functionality are we talking about?

Would that give Master Chief the opportunity to engage his superior hand to hand combat skills?

But with Master Chief’s armor also being a powered suit, the EMP would probably knock him out, leaving him in the situation he was in the beginning of Halo 3. But I don’t know if he has EMP protection.
