I just used Snaptell today when I was at the Circuit City sale to figure out if I was really getting a deal on my Spinal Tap Special Edition CD. Turns out, with the 20% knocked off the price was still a little higher than a couple of places I could purchase it online. However, I had it in my hand and was willing to eat the buck difference.
I just got my iPhone, and I’m completely addicted.
One of us! One of us!
The only bad part is moving all of my music back over to iTunes after a brief fling with Windows Media Player.
Get the app iguarddog for your iPhone. Part of the money goes to shelters and it is only one dollar. You set the dog on guard duty and if anyone picks up your iphone it shows a video of a big dog barking.
Nice compilation of some old faves, and a couple surprising new ones (lay it on a cup to boost sound? I have to try that.)
There is a new Light cycle app called Lightbike. Not the greatest app ever but fun if you like Tron.
Just got my new iTouch and I am in lurve! Thanks for all the fantabulous advice in this thread.
I have found a new critical app: FreeWi-Fi Locator. This has come in very handy when I am walking around and want to download something larger than 10 meg.
Great News!
Amazon released a Kindle app for the Iphone. You can now send the books you may have purchased for your Kindle and read them on the Iphone.
Another one that I love is Attractor. It is a Bi-neural tone generator and is great for meditation, relaxation or even falling asleep. It is $4.99 but I think it is well worth it.
A new game I like is Zen Bound. The goal is to wrap a rope around a 3d figure. It is fun, relaxing and has great music. It is also $4.99. A bit steep but if you got some extra change it is a great addition.
CBS Sports Mobile
I got it for the NCAA tournament, and that’s all I’ve looked at on it, but it does have other coverage.
It has up to the minute score updates, and you can pick a game to get play by play coverage and player stats. It also has an updated bracket.
CBS Sports NCAA March Madness on Demand
CBS also has a paid March Madness app for $4.99 that includes video on wifi or radio on 3g and edge, but I didn’t think it was worth it for something I would only use for a few weeks.
Yeah, I’ve been syncing my Google Calendar with my iPhone for a while now, as well as my Gmail contacts.
The cool thing is that Google lets you sync up to 5 calendars with a device. For sports nuts like myself this is great because you can have the schedule for your favorite teams display on your iPhone.
To do this, first you need to set up Google Sync on your iPhone. This link will show you how to do that. If you plan on syncing your Gmail contacts to the phone, you will want to make sure you back them up first. For now though, stick to syncing the calendars only. (Leave the contact syncing turned off in step 12 of the walkthrough)
Once you’ve got that done, go to Yahoo! Sports and find the schedule page for your favorite team, like so: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/chi/schedule;_ylt=AgPGba.ULjwjvQdOE6PryLw_2bYF
On this page, there are links for the calendar in several formats. Since Google Calendar is compatible with iCal, all you need to do is copy the URL for the iCal link. Then go to Google Calendar and click the “Add” link under “Other Calendars”, then click “Add by URL”. Paste in the URL you copied from Google Calendar, and change the “webcal” at the beginning to “http”, then add the calendar.
Now, go to http://m.google.com/sync on your iPhone and click on “iPhone”, and you will then be able to select which of your calendars you would like to sync. Once you have done this, check the Calendar app on your iPhone and you should see the calendars you have chosen appear.
The result:
Even cooler still, within an hour or two of the conclusion of the game Yahoo will update the calendar with the final score of the game, so if you missed the game there’s no need to go digging on ESPN’s mobile website or use some crappy sports app (honestly, I haven’t found a good one yet and I’ve tried them all).
Shake & Spell
If you’re hooked on Facebook’s Prolific, Shake & Spell is the game for you. You take turns playing against other online players, and the person with the most points at the end of the game wins. You can also play a quick game by yourself.
Fieldrunners is a awesome tower defense game. One of the most addictive IPhone games I have played. It is on sale for $3.99 right now.
I am also addicted to Logic Puzzles. I remember doing these in school and loved them. This App is $1.99 and has 20 puzzles. Must have for the Vulcans out there.
Appshopper.com is a cool site for app hunting. Even shows pricing and update history.
I still haven’t loaded any music onto the iPod Touch I got for my birthday 4/4.
A free libravox.com audiobook (The voyages of Doctor Doolittle), yes.
A game (DoodleJump), yes.
2 Painting apps (Brushes, Colors!), yes. (see this, or this.)
A vector drawing app (Paintbook), yes.
An animation app (FlipBook), yes.
A comic strip style captioning and image warping app (Comic Touch), yes.
…but no music.
Is that wrong?
Not at all. It took me months to put actual music on mine. Loaded it right up with podcasts, though.
Myst is now available in the app store for $5.99. It is a whopping 727 mb but the space is worth it. This game is a classic and will be loved by all GWCers. If there are any that haven’t played it.
Got my iPhone (16G) yesterday. I loaded the light saber app and my son made my light saber pink and got my Slave Leia avatar up and running, so basically I don’t care of the phone can do anything else.
Today I brought the phone out to recess. I have lunch duty with kindergarten and there’s a group of boys who play Star Wars everyday. So I showed them my light saber. Their eyes nearly popped out of their heads- it was great.
I’m sure I’ll be back here a lot as I learn to use my phone.
