Night Camera is a clever app. It compensates for the longer shutter speed on the iPhone at night, by using the accelerometer to determine when the camera is most stable.
I haven’t tried it yet, myself, but some people I trust are happy with it.

Just bought the iPhone 3G a few days ago… and I’m still in love with it
I was waiting for an hypothetical 32Gb version to store most of my music to come out but it won’t probably be there until this summer and I furthermore discovered the wonderful Simplify Media application on the App Store which allows you to stream directly from your computer your music. It works flawlessly (except in the subway) and if you have enough patience to wait 3-4s for the song/podcast to buffer you can access your whole library on the go.
I just discovered also this afternoon that a lot of companies/universities have a deal with AT&T to give a discount on their employees/students’ monthly bill (according to a colleague who already has it, around 15%). Apply here to check if your company/university made such a deal (here for more explanations)
Hi, my name is RonMooreHasPrettyHair, and I’m an iPhone addict.
I’ve had my iPhone about a week, and I hardly ever put it down. As I told Solai, it completes me. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.
You, sir, are awesome. Apparently I qualify, so that will save me about $20 a month. Working for a non-profit organization has its privileges. :o
I don’t know if i should post on here or not. I recently got a ipod touch for christmas (which, come on, is just the iphone without the phone right?). Anyways, i am addicted to it! My PSP which obviously plays games better is not as good. And is it just me, or did everyone all of a sudden get one?
Is it possible if you could give me some details/review on the iTouch?
I’m now looking into buying a iTouch instead of an iPhone to service my internet needs (The iPhone, is exorbiantly overpriced here in HK; the iTouch, weirdly enough, is the same price as (or maybe even slightly cheaper than) the US. Also, for some outlandish reason, contracts with the phone companies are actually cheaper should I only subscribe to a wi-fi service (unlimited everything) as supposed to a 3G phone contract, and the area coverage is pretty much the same), and I’d appreciate any feedback from anyone who’s had their way with an iTouch. Thank you.
some questions:
Thanks for the help!
I love love LOVE my iPod Touch. as far as apps go, I have yet to find one that is for iPhone but not the Touch. I don’t do any photoshopping/drawing on it, but I have downloaded and watched videos on it. web speed is good, though I have had some trouble accessing public wi-fi on occasion. Originally got it just to use at work, but it’s become my default iPod.
Here is a military use of the IPhone/ITouch:

32 GB is plenty if you are just using it as a PDA/mini computer, it is really video and audio that takes up the most space. Apps for the most part are only a few mb unless you are installing dictionaries or an app with lots of reference type info. I believe New Ipod announcements are in Sept., perhaps with Steve’s health problems things might be different but I would say we have at least 6 months to any new models.
A majority of the apps in the Itunes Store will work with the Touch. If you just do some searching around the store you can see a wide range of apps from games to reference and photography is a big one. All the apps for the Touch will be centered around use with photos synced to your touch since the Touch doesn’t have a camera. There are also some you can use to draw with but don’t expect to do any detailed work like Photoshop on it. (In the App Store, if you go to the page for an app, under Requirements it will tell you if it is compatible with the Touch.)
The Touch is basically the same in form and performance but is missing a few key features. Not being a Phone means it doesn’t have a mic nor connectivity to the internet outside its built in wifi. It does have an external speaker but I hear it is lower quality than the IPhone’s. It also has no GPS so it can find your location based on local wifi networks which is not as accurate.
You can sync videos to the Touch for playback anytime. You can also play Youtube and probably quicktime videos but I don’t believe you can watch sights like Hulu or similar flash based sites. All of this is still dependent on a wifi connection.
It all depends on the network you are connected to. If you are on a network attached to a cable model it is usually faster than the 3G. I have found DSL to be slower than 3G. I think the Iphone and touch are both slower than a computer that is on the same network.
As you say, there are just things that a laptop can do that a pod device can’t. It really comes down to your requirements. If you are a student a laptop would be far more practical. If you like to have a lot of mobile entertainment than the Touch is great. A businessperson would be better off with a Blackberry IMO.
If you already have a computer at home the Touch is a excellent portable comp. Being extra shallow I use my Touch as a portable media device and my IPhone as a portable networking device. If wifi is widely available there the Touch would be a great device to have unless you need to have a portable system for Photoshop, Wordprocessing or heavy web surfing.
Hope this helps.
Thank you so much for typing all that up and being so incredibly helpful, Uchiha Daisuke. I think I can probably make a decision soon. At least, I hope I will.
Is there an easy – and free – way to transfer photos taken with the iPhone onto my computer? You can email them one at a time, but it’s tedious and slow. I’ve resorted to using Twitterfon to upload them to TwitPic and then downloading them, but there has to be a better way.
Rimpy, are you on PC or Mac? I am on a PC and use Picasa to manage my pictures and importing. It is actually seamless, I plug in my iPhone and while the regular process kicks off Picasa asks, “Do you want to import those pictures?”
I’m guessing you’re on a PC, but in case you’re on a Mac: just open up iPhoto. It’ll batch transfer them for you.
My computer doesn’t appear to recognize the iPhone as a drive, so Picasa doesn’t find it. What am I doing wrong here?
So the solution is just to get another computer? Thanks!
Hmm. I didn’t do anything special to enable this. I can double check when I get home but I believe there is a setting that tells Picasa to auto-detect any new media. Also, are you XP?
Vista.
See? No new computer needed. Just a new OS.
Old OS. Whatever.
My condolences.
Seriously tho, does Picasa automatically detect your regular digital camera? I haven’t checked my settings yet, I apologize.
In other news I got a new recommendation on an app: Snaptell. Kind of cool, you take a picture of a CD, DVD or book and it returns reviews and price comparisons. Haven’t experimented a great deal yet, but looks pretty cool.
Wow, i’m sorry i have not yet answered your questions yet. So here it is,
some questions answered:
Thanks!!! I’ve finally taken the plunge and got the iPod touch…after some laborious hours of setting up the wifi to work at home(which had a lot to do with switching wep to wpa because evidently,PC users are crap.) I’m happily replying you on my iPod touch Woo!! Am totally loving it so far. It is so darn cute and functional.
So, I know the games are fun and all, what are some of the essential useful programs (outside of the usual facebk, news, fring, etc, or other apps already mentioned in the thread) that will be more useful than say fun?
One thing though, I’ve noticed a significant lag in YouTube for some of the videos…is that common at all? Does it have anything to do with the 2.2.1 update I did right at the start?
Also, I did notice a slight difference in apps available in hk as supposed to the us, which is somewhat annoying…
You can get a camera that isn’t a phone?

I just tried this, and I love it. When I’m at Blockbuster, I use my phone to take pictures of the movies that interest me besides the one(s) I’m renting that day. Whenever I get around to it, I then go through them and type them into my queue by hand. Now I can just mail them to myself and then cut & paste them. I just wish there was an option to add them directly.
Anyone else ever get one of those cat-shaped UPC scanner things from Radio Shack? That’s what this app reminds me of. Of course, they’re tracking your marketing info, FYI. So not only does the GPS in your phone track your movements, this app will track what products you like.
I love Big Brother.
