I'm glad Baltar at least tried...

The optimist in me wants desperately for Gaius Baltar to do something good, something positive. I was pleased in Daylight pt 1, that we saw him actually try:

I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten your name…

A small gesture of course… but I’m glad he at least tried. He at least is not so miserable as to have never cared about Caprica 6’s name. It can’t be said in respect that he ever tried again, but I’m glad he tried.

Moore has said that Gaius never knew Capricas name, and to him, it became a game for Gaius to see how long he could keep it up without her knowing that he doesn’t know her name.

I LOVED that moment! I was so glad they did that, because it was always strange to me that Caprica Six apparently never had a name before the attack. I bought that Baltar could seduce a woman, and even keep coming back to her, without remembering her name and still play it off. But the fact that they acknowledged it was cool.

It seems C6’s helping PapaBaltar solidified her relationship with Gaius (perhaps part of her motivation was to do something to keep her close to Baltar, a sort of emotional blackmail thing?) So after this, Gaius was locked in this relationship with her, never able to ask what her name was. One wonders if he ever tried to sneak a look into her purse to check her ID (she used the old mousetrap gag, maybe?).

Baltar did look appropriately stricken. He also has convenient rationalization handy. In this case he was probably saying to himself “I should go with Adama, but I’m responsible for leading my Balcubines”.

I think RDM put that in the flashback because he found it amusing. Personally I could have done without it but what can you do.

I’m convinced Balter will redeem himself in the end.

in the end, Baltars Baltar will Baltar the Baltar and everyone will live Baltarly ever after:D

If we do end up on a planet, Baltars’ farming background might be his ticket to the leadership he has always wanted.

They showed some sort of ability for caring about someone other than himself…he sent Six off while he stayed behind to look after his dad.

And while I was extremely disappointed he didn’t cross that line at the end of the show, I am not convinced that they are done with that scene. I hold out hope that it continues this week and he crosses it to be with Six (who he was looking at across the crowd).

I’m not convinced of that at all. When all is said & done, Baltar is Baltar’s biggest problem.

I thot that was funny too in the flashback.

I have been waiting for Baltar to redeem himself since the miniseries. I guess I still have some hope - he has come a long way after all.

Well, I hold out hope for Baltar. It’s been a long road for him.

You finally get it together, yer leg quits itching, then BANG!

So for Baltart I expect lethal space herpes, or the like, after growing some humanity

Heh. Wouldn’t that be the most awesome irony? After all he did to get away from that background, guess how he’s going to live the rest of his life…

l still think Baltar is going to save the day - I think he’s going to get ahold of that paper Kara has been working on with numbering/trying to make some mathematical sense out of the song and see instantly what it all means, coordiantes, or whatever it is. I think there may also be a moment where Lee’s and Six’s words will come back to him and propel him forward, in spite of himself. If nothing else, I feel Baltar seeks forgiveness, and if there is one person who can give it to him, it’s Six.

I think that baltar was about to step across that red line (haha beyond the red line) and join the volunteers when roslin came through and took the spotlight right off of him. at that point had he crossed over, no one would have noticed or cared, because everyone was paying attention to roslin. defeats the whole purpose for baltar.

I don’t know what Baltar will do, but it will be crucial and important. He still has a chance at true redemption.

Maybe I’m being unrealistic or too optimistic, but I see Baltar transcending his fear, and becoming more than he thought possible.

That’s how I’d write, but hey, nobody asked me.

(This is my 1,000 post !! I’m so frakkin’ thrilled !)

Yes, but who’s?

IYKWIM

Baltar will be Baltar, but he’s not a complete tool. No one in BSG is, not even Cavil, or at least that’s what his mother says.

I think Baltar’s going to be his typical narcissistic self but will somehow, in his striving, be of some help by the end. I wouldn’t be surprised if he tells Head-Six to shove it before doing so. Though it’s equally possible that she will provide the critical left he needs at the critical moment.

Woohoo! Congrats.
