I need some help with finding a SciFi movie...

Okay, guys and girls, I need some help figuring this out and y’all can earn some geek credit…

I’m looking for this movie that I saw on TV some time 6-8 years ago and I don’t remember much about it, but I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately and I would SO want to find out what it was called and maybe re-watch it.

I’ll tell you what I remember, it’s really not much.

  • it was definitely a TV movie, not a feature film, kind of B-movie-ish/low budget, too

  • it was about a freighter in space, the freighter was traveling alone, there was no fleet, no planets, just one freighter in deep space

-the story was somewhat reminiscent of Alien, there was a small crew and I think that they were initially in cryostasis, not sure about that, but then something happened, some kind of accident with the equipment or some incident with the cargo and they were either killed off by something/somebody or they were starting to kill each other.

  • the thing I remember most clearly is the ending, there were, I think, three of the crew left and they were in the cryostasis room and there was something about the oxygen supply running low (or out?) :o and they wanted to go to cryostasis when the last murder happened and I think at the end, only one person was left … and I think I remember the cryostasis room, too… I think the stasis chambers were aligned in the middle of the room, facing outwards and there were … five or six of them… and then at very end, they showed just black space with a few stars and then the closing credits.

So, I realize that this is really not very much to work with, but if there’s a place where somebody could possibly have seen this movie, it’s here and maybe if people start throwing out suggestions, the right one might be among them and - at last! - I’ll be able to sleep peacefully again.

Go earn your geek credit, folks!

Three’s Company ?

That is not funny. :frowning:

Sorry. I thought of Suzanne Somers’,
um, attributes, and was for some reason reminded of zero gravity.:o

I really admire your imagination…

If so, then the movie was “Dracula 3000”.

From the link: " (I’m a male) and I would rather give myself a papercut on the opening of my urethra before viewing this again (seriously)."

well, no, the movie I’m so desperately trying to remember was definitely about 5 or more years earlier than “Dracula 3000”…

Are you sure it was a TV movie? Could it have been an episode of ‘The Outer Limits’ it sounds like a plot that they would do.

No, definitely a movie, but thanks for the idea. I did a little bit of research and I think that maybe what I’m looking for is “Project Shadowchaser III” - the plot sounds close enough. Has anyone seen this? Does anyone know whether it’s got stasis chambers in it? Or maybe an idea where I could find a list of 1990s SciFi B-movies?

About five or so years ago the SciFi channel had a run of movies with people running out of air, including one with Wil Wheaton in it. Maybe it was one of those?

the way describe this movie, accident in space, death of most of the crew and oxygen loss… doesnt that describe most(all) sci-fi??? But the end part about the 5 or 6 cryo chamers all facing outwards, thats the interesting part… do the cryo tubes end up looking like the spokes on a bikes wheel(when seen from above or a downward angle)? because if thats the case, that the only thing that would jog my memory… i will start looking thru my GIANT collection of sci-fi(b movies included), and racking my brain, and ill post back…

Pal, I wouldn’t know what the SciFi channel did five years ago … I live on the other side of the big ocean

thanks for the suggestion, anyway, I cross-checked Wil Wheaton’s filmography, and even though I couldn’t find “my” movie, guess what I found instead? Wil Wheaton had a tiny, tiny role in The Last Starfighter! Did anybody know that? Did the GWC crew mention that on the DTA 'cast? If not, here’s the reference:

Although Wil Wheaton’s speaking scenes were cut, he can be seen in two scenes - running around the trailer park early in the film (wearing a red football jersey), and in the final scene, where he is obscured, standing behind Louis (wearing a blue jacket, possibly over the red jersey).

(edit: I just saw that it was brought up in the Last Starfighter thread, so that’s old news then, I guess)

oh yeah, they most definitely looked like that! you’ll be my hero if you find this…

Good news I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this movie a long time back

Bad news i’ve no clue the title, actors ect.

the really BAD news is for last few hours my brain has been feverishly working in a circle trying to figure it out and I’m pretty sure a stroke is about to take me from this world to my sweet release.

just to clarify the one i’m thinking of, pretty much everyone turned on everyone and you think there’s just one left at the end but the the other one used the cryo tube to keep himself alive as the rescue party comes in.

Regardless the movie i saw was pretty damn good

well its been almost 1 full day, and my brain is starting to come out of my ears… no luck so far… but i will keep trying

GalaxyRanger, sorry I am completely unable to help on this one. So I hope you forgive me for leading your thread astray a bit…

OMG that is funny!! Actually, if you look at the wording, it seems this individual is suggesting that doing so would make the second viewing more bearable. Hm.

this is really great news, as it means that I’m not going crazy

yeah, that’s pretty much coherent with what I remember, too. cool… I feel like we’re getting closer… would you, maybe, also happen to remember like a year or a specific timeframe for this movie (mid-90s? late 90s?)

thanks, pal!

Is it Alien Cargo by any chance?

Alien Cargo, that’s GOT to be it.

gahnzz, you’re my man, you’ve definitely totally made my day.

the only downer, though, is: the movie’s really really obscure, it’s not been released on DVD, probably never will. and I couldn’t find it on any of the bit-torrent sites, either.

I actually found used VHS copies of it (dubbed in German), on Amazon Germany and Ebay Germany, but I’d rather prefer the original English version. There are a couple VHS copies on amazon.com, but they don’t ship to Germany (I checked everything that was below 30$ - I’m unwilling to pay more for a used VHS). I finally settled for bidding on a used VHS copy that I found on Ebay UK, it’ll be four more days until that auction is over but it looks good so far. And my girlfriend’s dad can turn VHS into DVDs, I don’t have that kind of equipment.

Guys, thank you all so much for your help, I’ll know where to turn to, should I ever be looking for an oscure SciFi movie again

Glad I could help… I dug the challenge. Once I saw the description of the movie I knew that had to be it.

Let us know when you get the flick and if that’s the one you think it is.
