Welcome aboard.
I posted in another thread on this topic but its relevant here. I don’t really see Lee as being manipulated:
So he finally got his lazy ass off of Talos IV?
Oh! Nice! I really like that idea! I hate to think of Lee as so easily manipulated (which he has shown he can be). I really want him to succeed in the system. The truth-teller for the people.
What a relief. :o
Once you put the two images together I was much more strongly sold. At first they looked like fuzzy, half-remembered base stars to me. But when I look at Solai’s picture of the Ship of Lights next to Kara’s most recent crazy-painting, it seems much more probable. I can also see RDM and co. using the concept to advance one or more of the show’s mythologies. As a starting point it could still totally work, as long as it’s of the same high quality as the rest of the reimagining.
Whether the new show hews so closely to mormon theology or not, I think the idea of progression from human to divine is something that we see all over the place. For example, the transcendentalist movement of the 1800s promoted the idea that it is our duty to continually strive for self-improvement so that we can align ourselves more closely with God and God’s presence in the natural world. Or in Buddhism. I could see that being a theme that BSG explores from the dual perspectives of actual humans and Cylons, both stiving to do right by their God(s). Or, in Cavil’s case, just being skeevy and saying damn the consequences.
I bet we find him in the hydroponics room yelling “Get off my lawn !”
Several things.
First off. Killing somebody to protect your secret is not pre-emptive self defence it is Murder. That you will suffer if others learn of your secret doesn’t make it self defense, that is simply motive.
Second, Perhaps Cavil’s ships didn’t have a problem with firing on the other cylon base stars because they had labotomized their hybrids along with the raiders. Either that or they pointed to the raiders and said “See what we did to them? Fire or you’re next”
Finally, Zarek’s game. He wants to be President. He’s grooming Lee to be his vice president once Laura dies of cancer. With Lee as his vice president it will be much harder for Adama to with a flick of his wrist to tell Zarek that he can’t be president because he doesn’t want him to be. Plus, by standing up to Laura, Lee will have built himself up enough that the rest of the quorum will demand that he be made Vice President when the time comes.
Good point. However, I suspect while that is Zarek’s plan, I bet when the time comes Lee usurps Zarek and becomes the president himself…
While this may come to play out eventually, aren’t we writing Laura off a little too early? She may be declining, but she is not dead yet. There are plenty of episodes left to have her wreak havoc.
I agree. Remember, Ros is the last of the REAL politicians. All the others, including Zarek. are comparative newbies. She can, does, and will continue to run circles around them, politically, until she snuffs it.
The original show is based directly on several concepts from the book of Mormon. Glen A. Larson, the original show’s creator, was a Mormon.

Such more resembles a Vorlon ship jumping to hyperspace than the ships of light. The ships of light that I can recall from watching the original BSG on DVD look somewhat different. If the Battlestar Galactica runs into something approximating a Babylon station later this season…I am not sure I would be surprised.
First off, welcome. Secondly, I’ll defend Torre too, Cally was going to kill all three of them, remember Cally said something like you better hope there’s a body waiting for you. Also, considering that Nicky is potentially only the 2nd cylon-human hybrid (even though no one has addressed this fact on screen yet), he’s way more important than anything. Don’t forget the lengths Roslyn went through to try and control Hera after she was born and Torre was probably a big part in setting up the logistics of the Maya deception, so why not start on a similar path of all out control at any cost for this second hybrid?
I haven’t ever seen the original series, so all my experience with the ship of lights is from talk on The Watercooler, but the images in Starbuck’s mural do look hauntingly like that, but I hope it’s just a homage (like the 1701D Star Trek ref)
Better to wake up in goo WITH a 6 AND an 8, no?
that’s probably why in BSG’s Last Supper photo, Chief is holding that knife with a menacing look.
Here’s my youtube response to both the 70’s cylon and 70’s Starbuck:
Sorry Pike, it was nice posting with you… if you die, can I get your posts?
and obviously got rid of his futuristic wheelchair
Well, so far, the concequences for him have been getting to see some naked tai-chi-lon and to make out with Boomer… sounds good so far. We’ll have to see what happens in the next ep, but my guess is that Boomer saves the 2’s, 6’s and 8’s.

Especially if the Simons and Dorals get in on the skeevalicious action as well.
Boomer: Wait. I’m the only female cylon left?
Simons, Dorals, and Cavils: Skeevy Time!
Boomer: Perhaps this was not the best decision I’ve made.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought MURDER! in regards to Cally. That being said, I’m all for it, if it means more character development for Tori and the Chief, as well as the rest of the final fours. We still have no idea what their plan is, and if it means killing a couple of people on the way in order to reveal their plan to us, I’m all for it.
I found the whole ship of lights discussion fascinating, especially for someone who doesn’t know much about the original series.
And Zarek. I don’t find him to be all that evil. Yes, he’s a politician (hm. I suppose that does mean he IS evil. Anyhoo), and yes, he seeks power, but I like to think he’d actually be a pretty good leader if if comes down to that. That being said, what I find problems with Zarek is his role in the whole mythology of finding Earth. From the beginning, it’s obvious he had no interest in the whole crazy religious kukoo deal, and had a thirst for wielding power for his own use, but after all this time (the occupation, the cylon attacks, being Laura’s right hand, etc), I felt his stance has changed. To what? I’m not sure. But there is a definite change in demeanor when he talks about all that religious stuff, as well as what he actually want if he was in charge. I’m not sure what that’ll mean in terms of him grooming Lee. But I don’t actually see anything bad about it. If Lee does become his lackey/puppet pres., or they work together to be that, I’d vote for them.
 Brrrrrrr.
Dial A for Airlock!
I have to agree with Audra on two important points:
It was murder, definitely
I miss Lee’s old hair
I’m behind on both podcast and threads, so maybe this has been covered before, but it was def’nitely murder. And how is Tori going to explain pushing the airlock button when she could have just left here there behind the blast doors?
Cue Snoop’s “Murder Was the Case”…
not to talk too much about theology or anything, not like i know much anyway. However, I sometimes wonder if Monotheism and Polytheism differs only in the definition of the word “god”.
If one’s definition of the word God is “anything that posses the ability to be immortal and/or have powers above human capacity”, then by that definition, angels can be considered as gods. Each angels have their roles, much like in polytheism, there are often a god for different jobs or natural phenomenon.
Also, in most poly-theism, there is a hierarchy within the house of gods. Therefore there is a God in charge of other gods, much like in most monotheism, God is in charge of the angels.
I have yet to learn a monotheism that contains no reference to other super human beings such as angels. My points is, the defining difference between religions isn’t monotheism or polytheism. Take Christianity and Muslim, or even sects within each religions for example, all are monotheism religions that perhaps refers to the same true God, yet it doesn’t stop people from creating divides out of smaller differences.
To bring this back to the show. Cylons acknowledge the fact that the gods humans worship did exist in the past. Be it true god or not, there were entities of power. If they bring in the Ship of Light, I am curious to how they will interpret the beings on board, if they do portray them the same way the original series did.
It’s been at least five days, and I still can’t stop thinking about how much it sucks that Cally is dead. The thing that is the most depressing is that now, if I go back and do a re-watch at any point from now on, every time I see her it will ruin it for me because I’ll know how pointless her death seems. I really think this was the first episode that made me realize just how hard this show is going to be to take during the final season. Now that Tyrol has lost his last tie to humanity, how can we hope that he’ll survive as well?
That was my first post, by the way! I’ve almost caught up with all the podcasts, and I’m a “long-time fan, first-time poster!” So glad I finally joined up!
