GWC Podcast #95

Two weeks of new BSG material in a row feels like Christmas, doesn’t it? We jump head-first into the issues of this week’s epsiode Six of One. Highlights: we discuss the “it happened before, it’ll happen again” concept in terms of Cylons and “humanity’s grandchildren,” note Simon’s role as “the most underutilized Cylon,” rejoice over the centurian’s “gift of reason,” question Tigh’s “send the woman” plan, realize that Baltar really is good with women, and laugh it up over the grand poo barge.

a quarter that muffy could fly a space ship

Trust me chuck, she had no shirt on

Rapidfire response:

[li]Simon is the “Science Cylon” so there was little need for him (outside of “The Farm”) so far. I expect him to have more air time this season.
[/li][li]Tigh et al were NOT pimping Torry/i/ie. He specifically said, ‘you don’t have to get on your back.’ Just, y’know, chat him up. The fact that she went there is all on her.
[/li][li]The Raiders are somewhere in the dog-to-monkey range of intelligence. That’s why they never had ‘restraining bolts.’ But like dogs, they have senses that we (cylon/s/z) don’t. They can find drugs/bodies/whatever and communicate that to their handler, but if they go into their crate and don’t want to come out, you’re going to have a hell of a time figuring out why.
[/li][li]The Cents (I love that abbreviation. It gives “50 Cent” a whole new meaning) seem to have been developed from their sentient Larry-model precursors, thus the need for a ‘restraining bolt’ (restraining fishing lure?)

Das ist alles.

Also, yeah, topless.

“The New Centurions”

sounds like a boy band

How many Centurions do you think have free will now? just two or more? more the crazier it may get, or maybe thats what leads to the begining again where there were no Human models.

“The New Centaurions”, according to Cavil’s pronunciation

I love Lawyer Bill’s golem(sp?) theory for baltar. I can totally see it. I can also see the same thing being true for the final five—they’ll save the cylon race, but while attempting to kill every last one of them.

For the Tory thing, here is what I posted on another thread covering the same thing:

I’m only up to the lawyer Bill/golem section of the podcast, but…

The reason (in my mind) that the Adama/Roslyn fight hurts is it feels like “mommy and daddy fighting again! runs off in tears

Also, I posted this on the frak party for this ep, but it’s relevant

Re: Lee as a popular government figure:

During the trial, Lee states, while on the stand, for the entire fleet to hear over the wireless, that back on New Caprica, when the cylons found them, he advocated leaving the fleet and NEVER returning. Lee being the honest politician might not help him if someone brought that point up in the press. That would probably lose him some votes, esp against a ruthless politician like Roslyn, who was part of the underground and jailed for it on New Caprica.

Also, to clarify, even with all the bad stuff that happened between Lee and Dee, most of which, Lee did to Dee, it was Dee that left Lee during the trial last season, so seeing them end it with Lee’s “I guess you get the house” comment was a GREAT way to end it.

Go Audra with her Mendelian Genetics skills!

That’s why she’s the coolest.

Zoinks!

What an episode!

Yay! My kids made the cut! They were so funny! Squeee!

I agree that Tigh did not “send” Tory to Baltar. For the reasons stated:

He is still post-Occupation Tigh, and dealing with a lot of craaaap. I think he is in guerilla mode with this revelation, and wants to deal with it immediately and effectively. He has no patience for beating around the bush. He wants information, no matter how he has to get it. I think he’d do Baltar, if that’s what it took. He chose the most viable option. Tory. He knows Baltar’s weakness for women. Tory. She wasn’t known as an active part of the resistance. Like it or not, she’s it. Clearly, she saw that, too.

I also thinks she ‘needs’ more info from Baltar, though I think she’ll have a pitfall.

The hub says Baltar’s Harem remind him of the Manson family. Brrrr!

Oh, about Baltar and Glowing backs of cylons. It would seem that it takes more than sex to get a cylon’s back all aglow. I’ve believed that it takes love, true love, to get that kind of reaction out of a cylon. It only happened to Six and Boomer that we’ve seen and it was only around the time that they seemed to be falling in love with Baltar and Helo, respectively. I may be wrong though…

Now that I really think about it, maybe it’s the signal for when a cylon gets impregnated. It was after Helo got Athena’s back all aglow that she got pregnant, but we never know if after Baltar glowified Six’s back. whether or not she got pregnant, because shortly after that, Caprica went boom and Six’s body was destroyed in the blast (keeping Baltar alive), so we’ll never know that.

We also never saw the Chief impregnate Cally, so we don’t know if she got him all glowy during conception, or at any other time, since we have actually never seen a sex scene between these two at all.

My copy of the cast only had the first half, so I had to re-download. Having listened to the second half, I must add: NO FEELING SORRY FOR DEE!

Thanks the god for that!

Awesome cast as always.

…One of the things that really made me have a “wow” moment was when you mentioned that Tigh may have sent Tory to Baltar could be based on the fact that he knew that Ellen got info that way. Never even thought of it that way…but I can totally see it…

…and I agree - Baltar is a bad guy…always will eb a bad guy. But one of the luckiest mofos in the galazy. Going from acquital to feeling God’s presence in boobs…lucky. But he dioes have a great singing voice (as seen at the Bear mcCreary concert).

…the poo ship ROFL. had be cracking up at work on that one

…the other thing abotu the episode that got me curious was how genuniely excited Six and Eight were. It wasn’t exactly revernce…it was real excitment.

…Cavil = skeevy. Audra is right…totally freakin skeevy. This of coruse further proves that Audra is the coolest.

I may have zoned out a bit (I’m in bed with the flu while listening), but I can’t remember if you answered Lawyer Bill’s other question about the Raptors firing. I believe we do see Raptors armed with Rockets in Exodus. That should certainly be fun when Beyond the Redline comes out.

so i dont think anyone pointed out the hybrid saying “rise and measure the temple of the five, transformation is the goal”
I believe the hybrid is saying, “look at how far the final five have come, they are so human even we cylons believed they were human, isn’t this transformation to humanity what we want?”

Wow, that’s a good theory; I can totally buy into that. It might also tie into the bit where she/it says “they will not harm their own,” meaning the humans won’t harm the hylons or Tighlons.
