GWC Podcast #94 (Live!)

It was cool hearing one of my CG heroes, Mojo, just pop up out of the blue on the podcast. Who is this Mojo you ask? My post entitled Mojo on GWC livecast on the Geek Hobbies/ Digital/Graphic arts thread is a quickly cobbled together mini-bio for you.

He’s cool.

I completely agree, TH. I think Roslin’s got some other “special purpose” (remember The Jerk?) beyond having gotten a baby-blood transfusion.

Welcome, Uryon! We’re glad to have you here!

Totally agree, lol.

I think we brought this up in the post-cast chat, and this concept makes me laugh every time (I don’t know why; I’m just a dork). Just the idea that there’s likely a very serious, profound reason Roslin seems to expect Starbuck to come at her with a gun, and then to think it’s only because her specs are on the end table, lol. But seriously, I think Roslin knows who it is. She usually only wears her glasses for reading. I’ve got vision so poor I can’t see the “E” without correction but I’d know the difference between Adama and a gun-toting Starbuck just by the shape. Plus, I’m not convinced Roslin was really asleep anyway. I think she was trying to rest in a dark room with the mask over her eyes, but she didn’t look that groggy. Just my guess!

lambikins, welcome to the forum, and great name, lol. I’ve got to ask- you use “Grandpa Goo” and “Tighlons” like an Old-Time GWCer. Have these phrases made their way into the mainstream, or am I being optimistically silly?

Pike, that’s a god question. I didn’t really understand the smoke grenade either. If it was tear gas or something similar, does Starbuck’s ability to walk right through make her biologically different from humans? (Or did she just hold her breath for a mo?) I couldn’t help but think it was the cool entrance.

Yay! That would be awesome!

Woah, Phil. That is a very cool idea. I can picture Ron Moore’s mind churning, and coming up with just such a concept. Alll this time the “Eye of Jupiter” idea was something to tie into Earth’s neighboring planet Jupiter. Very cool idea.

I highly, highly doubt it was a smoke grenade. They don’t make that much noise when they are set off. Flash/Stun grenades do and can leave smoke. Maybe it’s some kinda combo flash/stun/smoke but just smoke doesn’t make sense from any tactical standpoint

The Jerk? There’s another song: “I’m picking out a toaster / For you / Not an ordinary toaster / For you…”

I had a half-formed theory that makes less sense the more I develop it. But it goes something like this: Roslin has abilities that defy explanation (though I’m partial to the baby-blood-endows powers theory). Starbuck has inexplicable things going on. Baltar has inexplicable things going on. So does Caprica Six (she has Head Baltar). Now, the Tighlons are clearly Cylons. But if the Cylon count they’re giving is corrent, is there maybe some other kind of distinct group? Or is it as simple as “We’re all cylon(z)”?

And, yeah, it would be great if the Raiders/Toasters recognized the Final Four/Five as the Cylon parents and appealed to them for help against their oppressive human-model siblings. “Aaaanders, they’re enslaving us! Make them stop!”

ps. I love how Anders is universally recognized as the most manly man remaining in the universe, and Starbuck routinely and repeatedly hands his @ss to him: drinking him under the table, easily dropping him with the pistol-whipping, etc.

pps. What about the Imperious Leader role? Is that coming up? Are we going to see a Larry model with some personality, one of the early toasters that decided to make the flesh models?

ppps. Another song, if you recall Cool Hand Luke: “I don’t care if rains of freezes / 'long as I’ve got my plastic Gaius.”

I just want to say, what an amazing podcast that was. I was unable to listen live but 94 was fantastic. Thank you so much.

Audra, Unfortunately, you might be optimistically silly. I just think you guys are soooo clever that I am happy to adopt the language. And I’ve got a ridiculous commute each day, so I’ve probably listened 10 podcasts already. I wish I could take credit for the name, but my daughter made it up. I keep scamming her names for my online personae (it’s the least she can do). Otherwise I’d be something lame like “LawyerFranKnit123”.

I’m working my way through Podcast #87 and Chuck has convinced me to give Asimov another try…

BadNewsTigh—I like the avatar pic. did you create it?

About Starbuck viper blowing up and now her comming back. I wonder if their going to say it was some sort of wormhole? what I really am starting to think is that it has something to do with the farm and razor. maybe with the tech the Cylons gained, they cloned her and put her in a new viper and sent her back to the fleet with a mission what that is no one knows. thats the best I can come up with right now.

It’s a Grant Gould. He does a lot of killer art! That’s his Occupation Tigh, I have an 8x10 of it- he is a really nice guy!

Here’s his BSG page, and here is his main entry page. I love his Star Wars/BSG mashup

Didn’t he do that for one of the BSG podcasts?

That, I don’t know. I remember when I ordered it, I got his drawing of the Cheerleader free for mentioning the 10th Wonder podcast. He also threw in a couple extra goodies- he is one nice guy!

And he’s a fan!

That Occupation Tigh is one cool drawing…

Ok so as a number of people have already admitted it i will stand up and admit it… “hi Im Java and… sniff this is my first GWC podcast”

What a first one to listen to though

all i can say is you nearly got me into trouble at work. listening to the podcast on Monday and when i heard GeekGasm I about bust out laughing. Im going to have to try and use that in normal conversation.

And yes i did use that as my Signature!

Welcome to the forums! Feel free to look around, and post!

I think everyone here has had that laugh-out-loud moment while listening to the GWC when they start cracking jokes (Sean’s impersonations always crack me up). I get funny looks when I let loose a snicker during my 6am MRT commute. Very full, very quiet ride full of groggy commuters - and me, snickering at something the GWC crew said.

You’ll have fun at the boards, and I hope you get to download the rest! (Try the bonus 'casts, #50 and #84, or the Direct-to-Archives too!)

So which way is ‘the right way??’ Where does Kara think we need to be? Is she going to try and convince everyone that the fleet needs to dive into a maelstrom-type anomaly to reach Earth ?
Well, if anybody can, it’s her…

This is minor compared to all the other reveals in the episode, but was anyone else jarred by Tyrol’s use of the phrase “mother-suckers” in the opening act? (On the launch deck, yelling at pilots and deck hands.) I thought Cally had established that “mother-frakkers” was the maternal epithet of choice…

Maybe Cylons swear differently?

Yes I believe that’s her intent. And for those of us who voted for the wormhole/technobabble option on the How Did Kara Come Back thread, her connection to the maelstrom is key. There’s an obvious time factor, which I think could have cleaned up her ship as part of her rebirth. I think the fleet will have to end up back at the maelstrom.

I think I do too…You know what would be great about that scenerio ?? A brand-spanking new Galactica (as well as the other ships, I guess) popping out the other end, all shiny and new !! Would that be a possibility?

-as an aside, I’ve gone through 15 theories in my head this morning and been completely convinced of each one…until the next one…

My reaction to that was that it implied that the “babies” needed to grow up and go be “adults”?

Oh, no doubt, A.H. I was just struck by the non-normative swearing (if it was such) – much like Adama’s “Jesus” in the miniseries.
