GWC Podcast #94 (Live!)

If the Bamber Bunnies didn’t seem like such a swell and upright bunch, I’d suggest “Baltar Bunnies” – but “Balcubines” has a nice ring to it.

And, like last week, the word alone has that nice faux-Greek look to it. “Ball-cub-in-ees?”

Huh. I must remember to wave next time.

Tyler-

Do you know the Borges story “Three Versions of Judas?” In it a theologian discovers that it is Judas who is the true messiah, and not Jesus, because in taking the thankless job of betraying Jesus he committeed the ultimate sacrifice and consigned himself to hell for the sake of all mankind. So the incarnation must have been in Judas, not in Jesus.

Okay, it’s not theologically sound, to be sure, but it’s an interesting conceit. Maybe Baltar will end up like Borges’ Judas: condemned, but ultimately having served a higher purpose.

I am rooting for Baltar to redeem himself somehow. He’s still a sleazebag and a weasel, but he is starting to show signs of actual courage. Staring down someone threatening to kill him and giving his neck to him is not something that season 1 Baltar (or even season 3 Baltar. I never got the sense that he was being sincere when he begged Gaeta to shoot him on Colonial 1) would have done.

I don’t see how one of the 6’s, a known Cylon model, could also be the final unrevealed model. That just makes my head explode.

I have a quarter says that self-serving, Judas-like, never-good-for-nothing-except-saving-himself (so far at least) Baltar winds up somehow ultimately saving the day. Even if he does it inadvertently.

I’ve believed that for a while, but now having seen 4.1, I think he might go so far as to actively redeem himelf. My 4-year-old just brought home something from pre-school with a quote to the effect of “Don’t pass final judgment on anyone, for each man will have his hour.”

New content finally! Great job on the live episode so far… (still listening)

Everybody keeps saying that Rosalin can share visions with Hera because of the baby’s blood, but I don’t think that is the case at all. Back in season 1 she had dreams of Leoben and him getting blown out the airlock before it happened, and before the baby’s blood. I think that this has more to do with the fact that she is the “dying leader” from prophecy and that either the gods or the one true god is linking the major players together via their dreams.

I’ll slap my quarter down saying that Starbuck is not the final cylon, she is something different.

Finally, the whole “I am Anders” open mic thing when he was flying his viper. Did anybody else get the feeling that that was a broadcast to signal the cylon raiders to start doing the eye scans because somebody out there is a final 5?

This is a great thought. I mean, maybe they a Judas-type person to betray humanity in order to start this cycle of “all happened before” -

and, maybe, since they’re sometimes referring to the “exodus” theme, we should also be looking for an Old Testament/Egypt/Israelites/Moses connection?

Hi all,

Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I’m a brand spanking new listener to the podcast. I’ve enjoyed BSG since the mini-series, but never knew much about the world of podcasts and what not until getting an IPod recently.

I must say I have completely enjoyed the Watercooler podcasts that I’ve listened to. And I’m very excited to be able to enjoy the new season of BSG (FINALLY) and enchance it with the Galactica Watercooler now.

So, keep up the great work guys. I’ll be listening.

Welcome Uryon to our merry band! Be sure to check out the Introduction thread to get to know some of your fellow posters.

You don’t see the ironey in being from Germany, and doing a fake german accent? hhehe

Heh well not any more than me doing a fake Canadian accent… Wow I really loved that after-podcast open mic chat… we all need to do that again sometime.

  • David -

“Hey don’t be a hoser there, eh? What’s this all aboot?”

What do you think of this accent…ay?

Wahl, ah could do an `merican accent, and go and mayzure somethen up on the ruff.

  • David -

Anyone else ever thought it would be cool to be hypnotized or something to hear what their accent sounds like to others?

I don’t really believe that a 6 will be the final cylon. It is just something that I like to think about. I would love to see some level of redemption with Baltar. I just found “Borges” online. I will read it when I get back from court.

I’m not convinced that Kara’s somehow different. Her ship is, yes, but that doesn’t mean she is. My theory is that she somehow survived the explosion (maybe she ejected and got picked up by another ship?). My guess is that the other ship took her through the nebula which was really a wormhole with the other end near Earth. The Earthicans built her a new ship and sent her home. I can’t see how it would be the cylons building her a ship since they’d know better than to have the ship look brand new and all the computer logs be empty. They’re smarter than that. I’d guess the Earthicans weren’t trying to hide anything, but knew she might be in danger if she arrived in some alien ship. As for Kara adjusting too fast to the idea that she’s missing two months, well, she was unconscious. I know when I woke up in the hospital after being knocked out, I had no idea how long I was out for. They could have told me 2 hours or 2 years, I had no idea (turned out to be a few days). Same thing for the odd time I’ve fainted. When I opened my eyes it felt like I had been sleeping for hours, when I was only out for a few seconds. They don’t mention this in the show, but could the time difference just relate to travelling at faster than light speeds? Maybe it really was only hours for her.

I did think it was interesting that she understood Lee needed a hug (for whatever reason), but didn’t understand why Anders wanted one too. Anders didn’t seem at all jealous of Lee, so maybe he’s ready to accept Kara as a friend only? Also interesting that Lee seemed like the only one really changed by Kara’s reappearance. At the beginning of season 3 he didn’t trust Sharon and didn’t think she should be put on New Caprica to act as a liaison. He loves Kara so much, he’s willing to accept her even if she is a cylon. Helo already understands some cylons can be good, while Anders is only okay with her because he knows he’s a cylon. It would have been interesting to see how he reacted to her if he didn’t know that. I imagine he’d have had nothing to do with her any more.

And yeah for Dee and Cally only having bit parts in this episode! Woohoo!

Welcome Uryon.

I SO hope enchance wasn’t a typo, because I too feel that GWC both enhances the BSG viewing experience, and imparts it’s own personal magic (enchants) on their listening/posting public as well.

Here’s to GWC enchancing all our lives for many seasons (of whatever) to come!

Lonley Toaster,

Yes, enhanced is what I meant. My stumbling fingers almost conveyed that. LOL!!

Amen to your sentiment. May GWC enhance our lives for a long time to come.

Uryon

Is it just me, or is Amy channeling EmilyfromOhio?

The delightfully chatty and just excited to be here, vibe, crackling with energy?

Love it! Love the bag, love the shoes, love it!

Starbutt-- best new call sign in a while. Love it.

<drool>
too hot for words

Now I’m finally listening to the podcast at work where I can give it my full attention. I was wondering if the significance of Laura looking serene when Starbuck comes into the room has more to do with her not having her glasses on. The view of SB entering was from her perspective and was pretty fuzzy. Maybe she was smiling because she assumed it was Bill at first?
