FWIW, I actually love that Sinead O’Connor song - you notice I know all the words.
I knew that, but figured it wasn’t my place to argue that point in the 'cast. Just trying to respect your privacy!
Agreed, I was really bummed out when I heard about it. The new Batman movie looks like it might be really good - I loved Batman Begins.
Solai, I agree completely with this and with the rest of your post. You explain Starbuck’s situation so well here - much better than my anemic attemps in the 'cast! I like that quote from “Heart of Gold” too.
Thanks for the book recommendation! I always find this topic to be really interesting but somehow it also seems to stir up a lot of emotion with folks I talk to about it, which I can understand. Once in a graduate class on American poetry we had this discussion, and while we (and the professor) concluded that the pain or “tortured” life is not necessary for good art, we couldn’t deny that a large portion of the poets included in our anthology text had had serious mental issues. I don’t claim to understand the connection, but it does make me think of a European proverb, “With great joy comes great sorrow.” It refers to the capacity to feel so deeply, or what we might say is an intense sensitivity, that cannot weed out the good and bad but simply is. I’ve always wondered if this “deep feeling” way of living - not only sensitive but like one’s skin is flayed off and everything is felt - has something to do with the desire to create art as a way to deal with all those feelings.
Takes a bow Why, thank you.
Lol! Hmm, I don’t know of any blue men to make a good comparison except Mr. Freeze or maybe Papa Smurf, so I’ll just go with muscular=good. Hehe
I’ve got to defend Chuck on this one. I don’t hold back on commenting on the guys’ bodies in BSG (Lee, Anders, and Helo), so I think it’s okay for Chuck to comment on Dee’s butt. If he suggested that her butt was a reason for Lee to stick around, I’m certain he didn’t mean it to sound crude. He’s explained plenty of times in various 'casts that he thinks Dee is attractive in a lot of ways, including her intelligence, strength, and loyalty.
