GWC Podcast #81

We enjoy this weeks’ BSG re-watch episode Hero, plus deviate as usual. Highlights: we suggest that maybe having a nightmare about asking others to shoot you (after a night of threesome) might indicate regret, compare Baltar and Benjamin Franklin (in the way they both try to imitate Jesus and Socrates), love Tigh’s efficient and effective method of dealing with Bulldog, take another great call from Emily (from Ohio), bitch about the limited ‘Carpet Ride in Trek’s first contact (and the Phoenix’s lack of bass), recommend seeing Wil Wheaton in Phoenix later this month, reminisce about The Abyss (and other older sci-fi recommendations), and cover more Mass Effect (as we continue playing obscessively).

and there was much rejoicing…yaaaaayyy

is there a thread for the latest cast on Wargames? I didn’t watch it, unfortunately, but I just wanted to say that the first Terminator film is up there with my all time favorite films, along with Star Wars, Amelie, and Willow…

oh and I remember reading greek mythology during my extra recess as well…

finally, in time for my bus ride to uni…

I have to admit, episode 81 is my favorite kind of 'cast you guys do. I like to think of them as “Wandelcasts.”

If you have never done any theatre once the rehearsal process is over and you first get to the stage there is commonly a “Wandelprobe.” (wandel=wander in German). The entire show is done but you essentially just “wandel” through your blocking to fix any issues. It literally means “leisurely walking rehearsal.”

When you guys start wandelling I kick back and smile knowing the conversation will become interesting. I know that this is when you guys are most relaxed and probably the most yourselves as you leap from topic to topic, tangent to tangent laughing at each other and generally having fun. The topic is almost irrelevant, it is your insight and observation that make it all worthwhile. I think it being late at night also helps some.

Anyway, just wanted to say once again you are appreciated…and yes, we listen to the whole 'cast…even when they wandel a bit. Some of wait for the wandel.

Ooh, you nailed it, Solai. So true- and I like the phrase!

I bet Cavil has replicant-level abilities like the rest of ‘em. In fact, that’d make a neat scene: The Skeevemaster C suddenly breakin’ a fool off somethin’ fierce, then settling back into his usual demeanor. RDM, are you out there lurking? Did you take a note on that one?

This podcast was great as always. I v’e only been listening to u guys since podcast 65 is this is by far one of the best podcasts that are out there. This is the kind of podcast i’ve been looking for.
Ok enough ass kissing, Interesting theories on the transmission that the four of the final five heard !!!

Can we get an Unfinished Business frak party soon? Pretty please.

In the 'cast you were talking about non-geek parents at the Star Wars show who were just getting it all wrong with their kids so I thought I’d share a little family story from this past Halloween.

My youngest is now 7 and has been a loyal Star Wars fan ever since being introduced to it a couple years ago.

So this past Halloween, he decided he wanted to go this year as Luke Skywalker. No prompting from me! I was kind of surprised what with Pokemon and all the other things he watches. But its great to know Star Wars is still an influence on him.

So when we go to get costumes, we can’t find a Luke costume, but he was ok with an Anakin costume (and lucky for him, this isn’t the 80s where it would have a printed face on the shirt and “Anakin” in big stoopid letters on the front).

He gets all set for a candy run and goes to dig out his lightsaber, but its not working. But I was able to get the red one to glow and make the woosh sounds and all.

Now few would have challenged him on his choice of saber color. His costume was good and whatever saber he chose would have been a nice finishing touch. Not to mention, the glowing one would have been nicely visible in the Halloween twilight.

When faced with the cool, glowing and sound effect equipped red light saber and the dead blue one, he chose the blue one.

He said he had to choose the blue one because only the Sith uses red ones.

My son chose authenticity over the nifty glowing saber.

Maybe you just had to be there, but to a geek dad, it bought a tear to my eye…

Whoo! I finally get a mention in the cast even if they don’t remember my name! I’m glad you appreciated the C3PO-Drink, it was a lot of fun to do and photograph. If you missed the picture look for my post in the tread for podcast #78.

I might have some more star wars figures in beverages coming up soon, I’ll keep you all posted.

I am going to go download some older ones…I think either ep 58 or 59 is much like this one (looking at the show notes 56 seems like a contender being “the punchy cast”. Just fraking brilliant wandelling.

That. is. awesome.

My son chose authenticity over the nifty glowing saber.

>THERE IS A LEVEL 1 GEEK HERE

(BTW, 81 is still not showing up on iTunes.)

mine show up on itune before the blog updated itself tho, in fact that’s how i found out.

Are you on the most recent version of Itunes? Are your other podcasts updating?

I have to say I’ve always like The Abyss. Even though it can be mediocre at parts it is certainly the better of James Cameron’s two ocean going epics. Chuck commented on the nice happy ending of the movie, but many consider this to be its weak point. However, an extended edition was released in the early Nineties that really fleshed out the ending and gave the story a bit more bite (I’ll not add details to avoid spoilers). It seemed the studios were more comfortable releasing a mediocre 2.5 hour movie than very good 3 hour movie. It’s also noteworthy as Chris Elliot’s best performance after There’s Something about Mary…

“The Skeevemaster C suddenly breakin’ a fool off somethin’ fierce”…ROFL. Well played sir!!

Audra’s eyelids are probably fluttering like Nell from Dudley Doright - “Ohh Skeevemaster!!”

OK, finally got the 'cast. (Weirdly, it wasn’t showing up by 'refresh’ing iTunes, but it was there when i went to the ITMS.)

Then I came across this. There must be something in the air.
