I get compared to Darth Vader and/or Colonel Tigh on a VERY bad day quite a bit lately. My mornings as of late start out where I just count how many profanities greet my presence. There is not much you can do in response to such posts as you cannot please everybody. I will say, though, that this shows the podcast has become established as a bit of a show perhaps and is starting to become an institution.
Now if we could only get you guys a segment on Sci-Fi Overdrive…
Chuck,(and Sean and Audra), You three have created a great, at this point almost a living thing. The podcasts and now the forums are so much fun, this group that has gathered in the harbour you’ve built has exposed me to so many things in science fiction and elsewhere that I can’t even begin to tell you how enjoyable and informative it all is. One observation of these forums I’ve been amazed at is the almost complete lack of sniping/character assassination/just plain stupid postings that you see in so many other sites…This is truly a great group of semi-dysfunctional humans, albeit relatively intelligent, funny, and willing to give each other free reign to say their piece without trampling each other. And you guys made this all happen. This site is what I look forward to every night, checking on who’s saying what, etc etc. You can’t please everyone, but you’ve damned sure pleased most of us !!
And just to prove it, I left BSGW a nice review on iTunes too. So Chuck, Sean, and Audra…YOU ROCK !!
As I think most everyone has already mentioned, you can’t please all of the people all of the time.
I think the post that gave rise to Chuck’s reply was the first negative I have seen on this forum, which I think speaks volumes for the listeners and most importantly the hosts.
Chuck, if you want to take the friends example a step further, we interact with yourself, Sean & Audra at least once a week if not daily via the forum. One of the tests of friendship is disagreements, and in my experience true friends may disagree from time to time, but the core elements of mutual respect mean that the friendship survives regardless. Agree to disagree and just move on. It’s too bad some individuals can’t see that and in my mind it’s their loss.
Just now catching up with the podcast. I’ve got to agree with Chuck about BSG not being commentary on the Iraq war up to a point… There are many many issues which are universal to any war, and BSG has addressed a lot of them. Where I think this show crossed over the line of universal themes to making more direct parallels to the Iraq war was when they started up with the whole suicide bomber storyline. Suicide bombing the way it’s shown in BSG is something pulled directly from our conflict in the middle east. Yes, there are many examples of sacrifice and suicide in war. Falling on a grenade to save your comrades or being willing to go on a mission with little or no chance of survival is not at all uncommon. Strapping a bomb to yourself you intend to detonate while you are still wearing it is something very different, and is something that is very out of place in the BSG universe.
I agree. Especially given the ‘downloadable’ nature of the Cylon/s/z, which made suicide bombing a totally futile gesture.
Originally, they were going to do the more logical thing, which was kidnap Cylon/s/z and keep them alive. That was going to really freak out the ones remaining, and thus they’d impose harsher measures, etc, etc.
I just wanted to thank everyone for your support! Being part of this community is something the whole GWC crew is proud of. Podcasting is an imperfect art, and we’re just glad to have good folks out there who like to join in the discussion and share their love of sci fi, literature, Jamie Bamber, what have you.
Chuck-
I agree that the 2nd non-webisode is about seeing a turning point in young Bill Adama’s life and understanding of war. I hope the rest give us more perspective on ‘why Adama is the way he is’ that can be added to canon, in addition to Razor lead-up.
