Chris I believe it was in podcasts 55 or 56 that the Alpaca thing got it’s start Pike might also be able to pinpoint it better for you… come to think of it I need to put the whole story in the FAQ.
Great, kid! Don’t get cocky.
I think the original was in ep. 50 (I’ve archived it, so I can’t check easily.) The last time that quote showed up was ep. 57.
There was a thread here early on that went into it, but searching for “alpaca” turns up a lot of hits on this site! Definately should be in the FAQ.
If Im not mistaken - High Hopes was also the campaign song for the Kennedy campaign - dunno why I know that, my parents hadnt even met back then
Cuz jumping into Hyperspace ain’t like dusting crops, boy.
Without precise calculations we could fly right through an Alpaca or
bounce too close to craaaaaaaaaaaaaaap and that’d end your trip real quick, wouldn’t it?
Speaking of buying GWC merchandise, why don’t you submit the ‘official’ logo of the website (the watercooler in the BSG style crest) to cafe press? I think that would make a nice mug. I also nominate a wooden ship with a slash crossing it out as a good penultimate GWC logo. Just a thought…
This ship made the Kessel run in under 12 alpacas. We beat all the wooden sailing ships, but only came in penultimate.

Baltar’s stats have the ring of truth to them, think about it.
First, a population needs a birth rate of 2+ per woman to sustain itself, which clearly isn’t happening in the fleet.
Second in 18 years, most of the elderly (where ever they are) will be dead.
Most of the women in the middle of their fertile years will be post menapausal.
There aren’t that many kids who will become adults.
Third, accidents, illness, Cylon attacks, will take their toll.
So, considering the time period that Baltar delivered his stats to Roslin, in 18 years the human race would be as good as extinct as there just won’t be enough of a fertile population or enough of a gene pool to keep it going long.
Also, that being said, this was the last podcast for me. Since I started listening with #18, I’ve only deleted one without listening to the whole thing first, and that was the podcast where chuck and sean spent most of the time ripping on Helo.
But I think this last one was the least of all podcasts. Just about every time Audra opened her mouth she was cut off and there was way too much pontificating and odd leaps of “logic” (the slippery slope of contraceptives, etc.) for my taste. I liked it better when things sounded like a conversation, but recently it’s been waaay too much chuck channeling bill o’reilly.
So, so long and thanks for all the alpacas…
ohhh kaaaay then
<raises hand>
I think I missed something. What was that middle part again about contraceptives?
…that Dude says “is” way too often. I’m just saying. And guys, no, the ruling was about abortion, not contraceptives. Is.
ummm ---- podcast 68?
As #67’s show notes put it the podcast would be delayed due to schedule issues. The show notes said we may see such tomorrow night.
Indeed. We all just got back from Maker Faire Austin and we’re all pretty beat. The plan is to record tomorrow evening, and you’ll get the podcast late tomorrow night.
We hoped the extra three hours this week might help to tide you over.
All those extra hours are so last week.
ahhhh–got it. Thanks everyone!
Also, any chance we’ll get a discussion on the Season 4 preview along with the Flawshback 3? Would love to hear your takes on those.
Thanks guys!
Well, I’m certainly sorry you feel that way. Leading up to the last 'cast I had a truly miserable week; going into the podcast was just really down. The 'cast helped cheer me up, though, as I got into the episode and had a lot to think about/say. Sean and Audra were kind enough to give me a little space for it, and I felt a lot better afterward. I try to do the same for them when they need it. Believe it or not, each 'cast has one of these stories behind it, though we don’t really tell them because that’s not why everyone’s here.
I won’t lie: posts like this aren’t fun to read. Being compared to Bill O’Reilly isn’t a fun thing. But good comes with the bad; I can’t easily convey how much enjoyment I’ve received from this community. It’s why I put the effort out. I’m just glad to be a part of it, and the friends I’ve gained mean a lot to me.
Hopefully you’ll find a podcast that more fits your needs, and if you want to stop by to say hey, we’ll still be here.
I’m off to record #68. For the rest of you, it’ll be out later tonight.
You can’t please them all Chuck … but the rest of us appreciate your efforts, and can’t wait for the next podcast.
Chuck, one of my most difficult and proud moments came when I was the editor-in-chief of my college paper. Lacking a reporter I went and watched a student directed play that was, well, craaaaaaaaaap.
I stated this as nicely as possible. The next week the director wrote a scathing letter to the editor questioning my intelligence, worth, sexual prowess…whatever he could squeeze in.
Many advised me to go on the offensive, fight fire with fire! they said. I decided to take a different route: I offered him the position of theatrical reviewer. Never did I have a better, more thoughtful reporter.
Take criticism as a challenge to excel and find a new solution. Make no mistake, y’all rock. You can’t please everybody all the time…if you do, well…that is called vanilla. Don’t sacrifice you in the pursuit of pleasing everyone. Your voice, your character, Sean’s and Audra’s character…these are all essential to why people don’t just listen to the podcast, they have rallied around it and built a community.
Be true to yourself. Don’t let the turkey’s get you down. We will always be here.
