Assuming aliens even have DNA.
Even if they don’t, that’s means we’ll be all exotic and hot and that can’t be all bad. I mean if you want to score with a hot alien you don’t rape their planet and slaughter their people first - at least I wouldn’t think so.
Then again it could be a Yevo thing… which is creepy.
You know of a species that doesn’t have DNA?
Just saying.
This is a question for you Captain Awesome Chuck Chuckster:
So Chuck, there’s something that I’ve been dying to hear you get into on the podcast but you haven’t yet.
Could you share your thoughts about why Iron Man, so in particular strikes a nerve with you? Yes, Iron Man is awesome and that’s reason enough, but that’s not what I mean. After hundreds of podcast we’ve heard you get excited about lots of things, but it seems to me Iron Man is something beyond special to you.
We’ve got an awesome glimpse into why Sean was so influenced by Cosmos, The Transformers and Conan…almost like Sean Origin Story to steal a comic book term.
And I know Iron Man isn’t quite the same, since Iron Man is something you’ve been drawn to fairly recently (right?).
I could speculate and say well, you’re obviously a computer geek, and technology geek and from last podcast I see that you also have deep knowledge of jet aircraft—you’re also a tool geek and mechanical geek (those two genes I don’t have—can’t do anything under the hood of my car).
So taken together are all those facets part of what makes you such an Iron Man megafan?
If you could get into that a bit on the podcast, I think that would be really fascinating. And forgive me if I sound like I’m psychoanalyzing or something. I’m just really curious.
Stark vs Wayne
I understand the arguments about Tony Stark being cooler than Bruce Wayne, I submit though that Stark isn’t smarter than Wayne, just in a different way. I think because Stark represents the ultimate techie-DIY nerd, he appeals to us a lot more than Bruce Wayne. Bruce Wayne absolutely is as brilliant as Tony Stark, but his mental prowess is not in designing, developing and constructing. Wayne’s strengths are in detective work, stealth and illusion.
Lucious Fox plays the role of Batman’s tech guy where Wayne’s technical prowess ends. Wayne knows he can’t build the car he needs as Batman, so he gets Lucious to do it.
Stark is def smarter and more of a playboy than Wayne.
I just came back from Iron Man 2, and without spoiling anything, I just want to say it rocks!
I’m not sure where the haters are coming from on this. I think they were expecting it to be another Dark Knight, and were disappointed that it didn’t take itself as seriously as they felt it should.
It’s a long movie, but trust me, you’ll have fun at every turn. More Action, more comedy, and more Robert Downey Jr at his best. Definitely give this one a watch.
I was skeptical of this one, but Scott McCloud (Zot, Understanding Comics) loved it, so I’m going to see it.
Nope, but I only know of Earth based life.
I was glad of this. I always felt her outfits until this episode were rather sexist- and by that I mean the choice of the directors/producers/writers/whoever. The old outfit accentuated her body and diminished the intelligence of the character, imo.
I was so off her when she fracked that other almost-Kai, the one that Kira was in love with. He was very cool. Then she double-fracked him. (Win, not Kira. Kira probably did that many more times than twice.)
I totally dug how ascots and even a reference to Scooby Doo with ascots came up on the same week on both GWC and John Stewart.
Have you read Brin’s Uplift series? The dudes super-prescient, imo. But there he posits that the Earth is unique in its biological diversity. It could be easy, I think, that the aliens come not for our DNA, but for the far more interesting DNA of nematodes and ribbon worms.
Depends on your definition of species. If viruses count as alive (although that’s controversial), there are of course retroviruses like the cold and HIV that rely on RNA.
And one could posit an alien species that uses something akin to prions, like proteins, to hold it’s genetic material. And some recent studies considering Titan would suggest that aliens there would have a biochemistry based on liquid methane, which would imply that DNA as a molecule was out of the question.
So I have a question. For Cast 218, since I won’t be able to watch the new Ironman for months, or even a year, is there going to be a good number of spoilers, and I need to skip this podcast?
I have an overall question on the podcast. (It takes awhile for me to be able to listen to the podcast throughout the work week, and only today did I finish, so sorry for the string of posts.) But considering the conversation on how Pepper was the perfect compliment to Stark, it got me wondering. Does the relationship between the two, in which they are perfect compliments to each other, but without a romantic relationship- does this presentation in Marvel diminish the value of a romantic relationship, such that a romantic relationship is only there for loving someone, being in love, sex, and the like- but without the perfect compliment of a partner? Rather than seeing a spouse as a true partner, does a presentation like we see in Stark and Pepper encourage us to see a spouse as only part of the picture and not our “other half”? And is that a good thing? What do people think?
Damn dude, see that multi-quote button? If you hit that on al the posts you want to reply to then hit reply you’ll have all the quoted posts in one message
Thanks for informing me and letting me know the correct way of doing things.
GWC podcasts don’t include spoilers until whatever is being discussed (movie, book, game) has been released in its country of origin. As Chuck says on the podcast intro each week “If it’s out there, it’s fair game.”
In short, yes, I would count on there being spoilers in the #218 podcast regarding Ironman 2, because the movie has now been released in the United States. But what a great time to go back and catch up on the other 217 podcasts just waiting for you, or meander around the forum.
Welcome Diamond Vane!
