Or they just write the character Master Chief as a supporting character and not the main character for the movie.
great…now I’m talking to myself!

I’m sure having the helmet off wouldn’t in and of itself be a massive issue. My worry is that once they start moving away from the source material it would end up being completely different. Like Sean was saying on the cast ‘lets do it like you haven’t seen before!’. No, we actually want to see what we’ve seen before!
You could get a comedy sidekick and they could be the main protagonist the audience is supposed to connect with!
How about Rob Schneider!
Oh Gods no…anyone but Rob Schneider!
They could CGI in a lovable bumpkin with a patois accent. It’ll be magic.
Exactly. That’s what I meant about the ‘hero’ and the protagonist being separate.
They did something similar in that animated Halo short, with the ODST squad and the Spartan (who did get a reveal at the very end, but same idea.)
My first forum post, and few will see it, because this podcast is a few weeks old. I’ve been enjoying the podcast for about a year now, but haven’t felt the instigation to join the forum until y’all’s call in the last few podcasts. (They all kind of blur into one; I listened to the last five on the train between Marrakech and Fes over the weekend.)
I’m a huge Trekkie, and have seen every episode, of every series. So I really appreciated the Picard arc- though, to be honest, “Family” has long been one of my least favorite episodes in the five series. And, again, to be honest, you helped me appreciate it more. I’ll try to look for a way to watch it again, like on Megavideo or something.
But I think there’s another episode that you missed out on, really revealing the character of Picard- the Seventh Season (where All Good Things are) episode, Attached, wherein Picard and Crusher are able to read each other’s thoughts through a neck implant. I particularly liked the lines:
“You don’t actually know which way is correct, do you?!”
“Sometimes in command, the appearance of certainty is more important.”
I live by that maxim, especially in the classroom…
Welcome to the forum Diamond Vane! Attached is a great Picard episode. It’s hard to get them all into an arc when there are so many to choose from.
That’s awesome! Audra and I are huge fans of that episode! Remember the quote that comes between the two you mention? (“Do you do this often?”) We drop that one regularly as a way of ribbing each other when we think the other person doesn’t really know what’s going on – you know, without clueing everyone else around that we know. For example, someone might ask me “What’s the hex color for reddish orange?” I respond quickly (pulling it out of my butt) “EE1111.” Audra: “Do you do this often?” You get the idea.
You’ll be happy to note that we’re doing more Trek, specifically an arc focusing on various douchebags throughout the series. We’ll announce specific episodes shortly.
Thanks for the reply, Chuck! By the way, I don’t know how much this is mentioned on the forum, but one of the things I appreciate most about your podcasts is the relationship between you and Audra. I’m sure you guys do have disagreements at times, but what comes across is you two really love each other. That’s so rare to see these days, a stable loving marriage, where both parties really respect each other and enjoy each other’s company. It’s very clear that you two do, and frankly I think it’s one of the best aspects of this podcast.
Gryper- I give up. Where’s the attachment?!? Is it perhaps blocked for overseas viewing?
And thank you for the welcome
Oh! I was talking about the episode Attached that you mentioned. Actual file attachments aren’t allowed for anyone on the forum regardless of where you are in the world.
Yeah. That makes a whole lot more sense. (Duh.)
Welcome aboard!
Heh, I did a double-take there as well (the forum software allows it, but it’s disabled on this site.)
And welcome aboard, DV.
pssst… you’ve got a smudge on your cheek
Hey, y’all readers of Conan. I’ve never read any Conan.
I’m eying up a couple different Conan anthologies. There’s a 3-part collection of oversized paperbacks (The Coming of Conan, etc.) that collects Howard’s stories in the order they appeared.
If you’ve read them, would you recommend reading the stories in chronological order? And is there such a series?
