GWC Podcast #214

and does it have the smokes and the ice tinkling in the glass…
ok…that last part sounded just nasty

I don’t think Caprica CAN be anything but dark. But I’m not watching it looking for any comedy. I like the show for the same reasons I liked BSG - it makes me stop and think “what if”. It’s also the only show on TV right now that could possibly make me yell at the TV - “OMG, she DIDN’T just shoot the dog!!!”
I think the ‘light’ moments would be when the robot was ‘dancing’, when the dog wanted to play ball, and good ole Serge all the time (I just love to see it zoom around the house!).
Caprica’s great; I hope it comes back after the break.

Sorry, say that louder? I’m half-deaf from the sound of ice cubes clinking in a podcast I used to listen to.

Time out. I knew I got that info from somewhere: my DVD says…

episode 175: Best of Both Worlds, Part II

176: Suddenly Human

177: Brothers

178: Family

wierd–cuz Family aired the week following BoBW

Obviously a Borg plot of some sort

kinda off, but reminded me of this video i saw:

Yeah, they’re commentary tracks. David Eick leads them, but he commonly brings along the episode writer or other guests such as actors (i.e., those playing Sam, Amanda, Lacey etc.) and other artistic and musical designers. I think they’re worth while. No scotch, smokes, cats, children, garbage trucks, helicopters or landscapers to compete with. But sometimes the guests send the discussion off on random tangents, but we here at GWC are already pretty used to that…

I think that was production order, not airing order. I checked Memory Alpha and it was aired second in the season. Plus, didn’t they say the Enterprise was being repaired from the Borg attack still?

I don’t remember the exact Space Camp line from Chuck, but it was in the episode Chuck vs The Sensei.

Yes. Those are Production Numbers. BoBWs Part 2 aired September 24, 1990. Family aired Octocber 1, 1990. This is one of those times when production order is not better than aired order.

Just fyi, here’s some more info about David Eick’s Caprica podcast in a thread I started a while back: (Ron Moore has not ONCE been a guest on Eick’s podcast which makes me sad).

just finished my Picard homework, next, I hope to start my Xena assignment! Gonna fit mah Firefly in as I go!

this is ossimsauce!

Hey guys. This is the guy you were talking about on the Podcast, who said he was tired of you talking about Firefly so much. Well, I finally watched the first episode today, and I have to say…I am impressed! I feel like such an ass for saying what I did back then.

Also, Kudos for talking about Family, which is definitely one of my all time favorite TNG episodes. My favorite lines in the whole series are in this one episode, like after the fight, when Jean-Luc says “You were asking for it, you know…”, to which Robert says. “Yes, but you needed it.”…then in the moment when Jean-Luc breaks down, Robert says “So…my little brother is a human being.”

I’m glad you also mentioned Picard’s nephew dying, because that’s the one thing that really turned me off to Generations. I just saw no reason to do it, whatsoever. They could have kept him alive, and still made the same point they wanted to make in the story. Abruptly ending the legacy started in Family, negating all the great stuff that had happened before…that’s just going to far, in my opinion. It’s like when they killed Newt in Alien 3.

Glad to hear you’re doing Conan next, too. That’s a franchise that really doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. The original movie is a great 80’s flick, complete with an awesome score by the late Basil Poledouris, and I agree that the special edition DVD is the way to go. The ending is much more satisfying and thoughtful in that version.

Thanks for clearing up the run order/production order question, y’all.

Maybe we’re in an altered time line.

Sean, what is the Benjamin Franklin quote you mentioned in the podcast? I cant not find it on the forum.

?? (testing for unicode)

My humor-meter must be broken. I can’t tell which this is.

its from 1776,

Dr. Benjamin Franklin: Treason is a charge invented by winners as an excuse for hanging the losers.
John Adams: [scoffs] I have more to do than stand here and listen to you quote yourself.
Dr. Benjamin Franklin: Oh, that was a new one!

I haven’t chimed in too much on the newer 'casts lately, but my gods, the last 25 minutes or so of podcast #214 stopped me in my tracks and got my full attention. For anyone who wants to know what GWC, and the community is all about, listen and learn. It’s all right there.

If you’re looking for the Conan DVD, the Conan: The Complete Quest DVD has both movies, including the afforementioned director’s cut of Conan the Barbarian, with the making-of doc and slightly alternate ending. It’s $9.99 at Best Buy.

Chuck, it makes me sad when I hear a non-believer dogging Lost. If this were some of that “hatemail” I hear so much about on the cast, I’d start comparing it to V, but it isn’t that. It just makes me sad, especially when I know people missed out on one of the greatest episodes ever tonight. :(:(:frowning:

Ya know, it may be just me, but how much I enjoy GWC actually has little to do with how much I enjoy whatever you are talking about. I really like the Firefly discussion, but am not really a fan of the actual show. Even when you stay on topic.

Seriously though, talk about what you want to talk about. I may love it, hate it, not care about it, or start to watch it; but whatever I will enjoy the GWC take on it.
