Here ya go, Thot.

I knew about ‘The Child’ and ‘Devil’s Due’. I didn’t know that ‘Inner Light’ was a Phase II script and I couldn’t find it on the Memory Alpha site. Where did you get that info from? ‘In Thy Image’ was meant to be the pilot of the series and essentially became the script for the film, Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

I remember reading about it in a magazine, and it was long while ago.
Maybe even have been before TNG was on the air.
It was list of all the story ideas that they had come up with for Star Trek Phase II, and some of them made it to actual scripts I think. But some were just a one or two paragraph concepts. And the Inner Light was one of those not-yet-scripted ones.
But this is all from memory, so I could be wrong. But I destinctly remember a story idea where Kirk (or maybe Decker) lives the life of someone just like Picard does in Inner Light.

If I’m right, it kinda gives me a little bit of an Orwellian chill to know there’s no record of it out there. If it’s not on the Internet somewhere, does that mean it isn’t true? But the more likely scenario is that I’m wrong. :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: There’s a book I’ve not read called “Star Trek Phase II: The Lost Series”. I may need to get a hold of that and check if I’m crazy or not.

i think the story is going to have captain america given the super soldier serum and fighting the nazis, but then he somehow gets frozen in ice and thawed out present day. this captain america movie is going to be retro nazi fighting and he gets thawed out in the avengers movie. that is what i am hearing. who knows. cant wait!

Since ya’ll mentioned it, here’s a fan rendering of what Chris Evans might look like as Captain America.

Takei could, and did in “World Enough and Time” from the New Voyages (now Phase II) guys. I can’t figure out if it is based on the original Phase II script.

He ain’t got the chin for it

Regarding Audra’s comment about Picard’s rehabilitation after spending 50 years living another life, that is the basis for much of the Star Trek EU. Pondering an episode and its implications has created many great Star Trek novels.

For example, ‘Spock’s World’ focuses on the planet Vulcan seceding from the Federation. This “coup” is lead by T’Pring because of the repercussions of what happened in ‘Amok Time’. The trilogy of novels called ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ show the relationship between Gary Mitchell and James Kirk. You learn how close they were as friends and how devastating it was for Kirk to kill his best and closest friend. In the novel ‘Yesterday’s Son’, we find out that during the events in the episode ‘All Our Yesterdays’ Zarabeth conceived a child and Spock is the father.

Also, this brings up something I miss about episode-centric shows. With arcs you get the whole story played out over many episodes. With one episode, you can imagine what life was like after the incident. What were the themes of the episode and how does it resonant with you, the viewer? How would you feel if the probe touched you and you lived 50 years of a whole other life? Would you feel taken advantage? Would you feel blessed? What would your life be like in a totally different setting? For Picard he was no longer a Captain of a Starship but a farmer and married man. Would you resist? Could you resist? How much power did the probe have over what Picard experienced and how he felt? Couldn’t it manipulate his thots and feelings so he would be less resistant but over the passage of time Picard would think he made those choices?

I think he looks good!

Yes! I’ve read all those books you mentioned (as you well know  ). Some of my fav Star Trek novels right there.

I’ve never thot about it in those terms before, but your so right. With a lot modern arc-oriented shows, none of the good stuff is left to your own imagination. Such shows are great in their own ways. But an episodic show like star trek, and particularly star trek cuz it’s going on a journey, you get to fill in what happens in between the missions/encounters etc.

Back the the novels discussion, there’s a great novel called “The Valiant”, which ties TWO threads together. One is Picard’s first becoming captain of the USS Stargazer and it’s mixed with re encountering the S.S. Valiant that Kirk’s Enterprise was looking for in “Where No Man Has Gone Before” (The Gary Mitchell episode).

Note: Picard with hair.

Clearly not the guy spoken of here but this is the guy I picture when you say Chris Evans.

Raido 2’s own Chris Evans :D.

does it explain how he lost his hair?..

The 1979 movie – killer action scene and flashy costume. Don’t get me wrong; at the time, I thought it was the greatest thing I’d ever seen:

Yeah me too. For the US folks who have no idea who he is, that’s the ex-husband of Billy ‘Rose’ Piper. He’s a radio DJ, in fact I think he has the most listened to show in the UK?

heheh, the only reason I know who that Chris Evans is, is cuz he was on TopGear once. Did pretty good for a wet lap too.

I’ve listened to his radio show on the web and have seen him on the Brit awards…

well–thats def a new spin on Cap

A perfect parallel to ‘Inner Light’ is DS9’s ‘Hard Time’, where O’Brien is sentenced to twenty years of virtual prison time. This episode presents what Audra was wishing for from TNG, O’Brien is horribly scarred from his experiance and goes through a difficult rehabilitation process.

It is a heartwrenching episode, it was hard watching a character I liked so much go through such Hell. And of course the utter irony of it is that O’Briens name is eventually cleared but the species which implanted the false memories do not have the technology to undo what they had done to him.

I always enjoyed Xena, it had far more of a titillation factor. The only Hercules episodes I really liked were the ones with female guest stars. Martial artists and body builders, my favorite was the former Miss Universe Cory Everson… she was smokin hot!!! She played Atlantia on a few episodes, she was awesome. I got a kick out of Cynthia Rothrocks guest spot too, I used to really enjoy her Kung Fu movies.

as River Tan would say—“so…much…hair!!” (shivers)

That begs a photoshop of Book’s hair on our good Cpt. Picard, doesn’t it??

Done.
