Welcome aboard, Sunny.
Yeah, Dune seems ripe for an arc, but at this point it’s an ‘evergreen’ (i.e., it’s not time-sensitive) so I imagine the trio will cover it when they have a two or three week gap to fill.

Hi Sunny! LOL, we tried to get Chuck to read Dune last year (he’d never read it! Can you believe…!?) I think he took about 4 months to get through it.
Welcome Sunny. Yeah, I would so love a Dune arc too. I think Chuck told me once that Sean has read many of the books, but I could be wrong.
I’ve read 'em all. And, yes, I’ll be receiving Winds of Dune in the mail shortly.
And to just to boast my Dune-fan-ness, my Avatar has ALWAYS been Duncan Idaho.
I was very excited when the conversation veered onto the marching band field. Keep the drum & bugle corps commentary coming! It’s kinda what I do for a living…the whole band thing.
Any marching band performing the music from “Dr. Horrible” or–what I’ve contemplated seriously–the Guild’s “Do You Want to Date My Avatar?” would have to secure arranging and performance rights. School groups are not exempt from the requirement–as the lawyers from ASCAP and Lucasfilm are ready to remind us through cease-and-decist communications.
Now that more colleges are adding NFL-style programming to the game experience (halftime promotional events and JumboTron ™ video content), the temptation to perform a sendup of a popular web series is very high.
Now just thinking aloud: I have a feeling that the band kids would totally get it. But the football crowd?
Younger football crowd would prolly get it since that demographic would have followed Buffy, Angel, and Firefly. Also, we’re not the only forum or group who puts the word out about web series like The Guild and Dr. Horrible.
Maybe I’m being optimistic or naive.
Yay! I got Rach on my side! I’ll soon convert others…
OMG! Someone got (and liked) my joke! does a little dance I thought I was just eliciting groans here.
Cool, Deckard! Chuck and I both have marching experience - him in high school and college, me in high school and one summer of DCA corps when I was between my junior and senior year. It was a blast! I played sax normally so in DCA I got to play in the cymbal line, and (as you know) it’s a lot more work than it appears. It was one of the best times of my life - the camaraderie and the trips we took to perform shows - just awesome!
Yeah, copyright issues can get dicey. My college “marching” band (I put marching in quotation marks because it was more of a scramble band than a marching band) made arrangements of the themes from Super Mario Brothers and Legend of Zelda but kept them on the down low by using them as section cheers and not as half-time material.
Awww, it’s too bad you and Chuck didn’t meet each other in DCA corps or marching band. Just think of all the romantic cymbalism you guys could have had!
whoa, this boy reminds me of Lizzie McGuire’s kid brother…

Here’s a neat little tidbit. The lab coat that Dr. Horrible is wearing is the same prop that Simon Tam wore in “Ariel”.
And Joss does too.
Finally getting around to listening to this cast. It’s awesome they won that Emmy!
Had a few things to share:
The Bad Horse Chorus:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nj8aT_AwMX8
And from XKCD’s “The Race”… “Captain Tightpants + Captain Hammer = Captain Hammerpants?”
And finally, my costume last Halloween (2008)
The coat was handmade and pretty close (allowing for extra width ;)), but I did end up hand drawing the logo on the pocket.

Definitely a fun podcast. I was definitely (am, actually) one of the people who was (is?) angry about Penny’s death, a position that I remember posting effusely about when DH first came out. I still feel that way - I know why (narratively) it happened but it still bothers me, to such a point that I have a hard time really getting back into DH. Sigh.
On the plus side, spouse has never seen it (being all out of the US when it premiered, etc) so there’s an excuse to initiate him into it I suspect he’ll have the same, wait, that’s not Mal! reaction.
I loved all the literary discussions (totally up my alley woohoo!). Reading = awesome.
Fun podcast, keep it up Chuseandra!
My wife, someone who is decidely not into scifi or fantasy, loved Dr. Horrible right up to Penny’s death, then said to me, “Well, that was just stupid!”
Great cast! Loved the shout out to Reading Rainbow!
We are in the midst of a great creative renaissance. You look at the growing success of web-based content and it’s very exciting on many levels. First, as an artist, I love the idea of retaining creative control of your work and reaching the broadest audience possible. As a fan, I love being able to watch content that feels custom made to my interests, content I wouldn’t be able to find on a major network. We’re all winners.
I’m heading off to my first Can’t Stop The Serenity Event this weekend and I can’t wait to sing-a-long with everyone in the theater. The last time I did that was at the Rocky Horror Picture Show in Berkley, CA (the best place in the verse for RHPS, BTW) circa late 80’s. Goodness, it’s been a while. Time to take kidsAZ to RHPS I think!
And that is why we love you, Thot.
Two things occurred to me while listening to this podcast**. Firstly, as far as actors being talented int the realm of song and dance, my first realization of this came from the Keymaster himself-Rick Moranis. Anyone who hasn’t seen Little Shop of Horrors should immediately stop what they are doing and go and rent it. That guy seriously belts out some lyrics and they are great lyrics such as:
I don’t know.
I don’t know.
I have so,
So many strong,
Strong reservations.
Should I go
and perform
Mutilations.
Not what I was expecting from Dark Helmet at all. Steve Martin is also awesome as the sadistic singing dentist and the scene with Bill “I’m gonna get a candy bar” Murray is so very very wrong but hilarious.
2nd Though: Wasn’t Le Chuck the bad guy from the Monkey island games?
** I assume that I had more than two thoughts but these are the two I wrote down. I’m not really sure as the days are starting to run together.
