GWC Podcast #180: Alien3

And we wrap up the Alien arc. Highlights: we recognize Alien3 as the source of the Aliens-as-horror-movie argument, note that it’s not a bad flick (but gets a bad rap as compared to Alien/Aliens), hear about Audra’s “Ellen Ripley” image search engine results, get a bit pissed about Newt’s ending, appreciate Weaver’s commitment to the buzz cut (as opposed to Conehead-style caps), agree yet again that foul-mouthed women are hot (and Alien3’s language seems entirely justified), wonder exactly how they convince people to colonize places like LV426, enjoy Audra’s Rush/Alien3 joke, and debut our second grok tune “Listen To Ripley.” Next week: our first podcast in the Guild arc.

Audra/Chuck Grok Tune “Listen To Ripley” – 192k MP3 Direct Download

This is up mad early. Great job sir

Yeh for the early cast. I am deep into the “Sean Font Report”!!!:D:D:D

Uhh… Lyrics to the song please? Sounds great btw. This is coming from someone who actually listened to Salt and Pepper back in the day.

All of the actors in Alien 3 weren’t British. Dillon (Charles S. Dutton) is American (born in Maryland according to IMDB).

The Terminator also tended to leave non-threatening “people” alone especially in public.

I was disappointed that you’re not gonna have a dedicated show to Alien Resurrection, but I can understand you guys being Aliened out.

The SG-1 episode is Watergate (2000) (Season 4, Episode 7). I thought I’ve seen all of the episodes of SG-1, but I don’t remember this one. I’m going to have to check it out.

What happened to cause silence from 94:58 to 95:29?

With regard to Princess Leia being hotter if she cursed, watch the Roast of George Lucas. (: Ok, Carrie Fisher didn’t really curse (much), but she did show a different side you wouldn’t expect.

Finally, I liked the parallels you guys made between T2 and Aliens. They never occurred to me. I also found the comment about T3 and T4 not living up to T1 and T2 similarly to the Alien series interesting.

DAMN!! Ya hadda bring up the Salt-n-Pepa!!

Them girls gots it goin’ on

I’m disappointed that you’re not doing Alien: Resurrection. It might be the worst of the four movies, but it’s still part of the Alien franchise and deserves an episode. You disappoint me.

Is awesome. Nice job. I look forward to the CD of GROC! I need the collection!

Also had to work this a.m. and was nice to have the podcast up early to listen to Sat. A.M. Thanks!

I’d like to hear Alien 4 too… I feel incomplete inside. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks peeps.

Make a thread and let us know your thots on Alien:Resurrection. I watched it last night at the frak party and voiced many opinions. I didn’t really dig the film but it had its moments. Just cuz the crew didn’t discuss doesn’t mean it gets forgotten. There are plenty of people who would love to discuss the Alien franchise. Where it’s going? Where it’s been? For example there is it’s tie-in to the Predator franchise as well, not to mention the comics.

There’s a plethora of discussion to be had. Voice it. Don’t be disappointed. The crue can’t cover everything. That’s what this community thing is all about.

@27:20

“You should leave that in with the beep.”

:stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry, I’m just here for the podcast.

I just find it weird that they decided to skip it, do they explain it somewhere or was it just luck of the draw?

Did anyone ever figure out what the term “shoop” means?

Back in the day, you know before the millenium turned, it meant to knock boots. Or in laymen terms, to engage in sex.

I haven’t finished the 'cast, but an interesting thought occurred to me.
(I should also warn here that I haven’t seen Alien3 in probably a decade at least)

Regarding Newt… I wonder if it would have been a more interesting story if Newt had survived and it turned out to be her that was carrying the queen. Put that in your drama pipe and deal with it…

@a few seconds after that

“Riiiiiiiiiiipley!”

So to address the lovely crap edit I put out when bleary eyed this morning:

  1. I was pretty exhausted last night (as you can tell in the 'cast a bit) and worse this morning.

  2. I’d intended to leave the “f*&^ me!” in with a beep, but it had to be moved to match where it actually occurred during the call. (Because I have to adjust the call in-points after we record, what you heard in the jacked up version doesn’t make any sense.) I’d left it in to beep it, move it to the correct location, etc. but totally forgot when overcome with “I want to go to bed -itis” around 1:45a.

  3. The gap you heard in the early version was caused by the fact that I skipped an edit point. Oops.

  4. I’ve pulled the jacked up copy, made the quick fixes, and am re-rendering now. It renders in real time, so should be out in about two hours.

Sorry, y’all. My bad.

So Chuck, why no love for Alien Resurrection?

When faced with Resurrection, AvP, AvP2, and the new Predator flick, we decided to stop with three. It’s always tough deciding how deep to go. Often it has more to do with schedules later in the year, etc. We considered two, but decided to add the third since it never receives any love and we had one more slot for it.

S.H.O.O.P. - Shake her overwhelmingly opulent posterior

The Dark Horse comics that publishes between Aliens and Alien3 had Newt grow up and her boyfriend was Hicks. They are the stars of the early comics. After Alien 3 came out… they republished the issues with changed names.
