Up this week: The 1986 Transformers animated movie. Features: We discuss the movie’s unique soundtrack, note the underwater Heavy Metal tribute, guess what Transformer mall stores might be like, love on Grimlock, mourn the loss of Optimus Prime, enjoy the rise of Rodimus Prime, tear into what it takes to be a real leader (and how incredible it is to see a show explain this to kids without being preachy), greatly respect Unicron’s awesome voice, talk true loss and what it means to really lose Transformers characters, and hear a listener’s update on Smurf sex.
First!
Also That dude Kevin’s name is “I’m not a loser” on the forum. Not that he’s saying “I’m not a loser on the forum”. Holy crap. I thought he was being a dick for many podcasts
I am all for nostalgia. But I didn’t realize that the sound track was so intrusive to me. It was just plain distracting. I also forgot how good the movie was. I felt like a twelve year old. And i miss my sharkticons
YOU’VE GOT THE TOUCH YOU’VE GOT THE POWER !!! yeah!
What is it with Quisnos and skeevy commercials?
And oh, Audra, I’m sure the braid-look could work for you:
For those unable to watch the film, after much searching, I actually found someone who posted it on YouTube. Below is the link to the first part of the film (its split into 9 parts) and just click on the person who posted the clips to see the rest of the film.

Happy Viewing!!

I can’t believe I totally forgot to mention this but Casey Kasem (the voice of CliffJumper) doing the launch countdown was funny too.
Here’s the squarepants thing I was talking about.

all I keep thinking is “it’s the summer of George!”
I likes 'em round
I don’t believe I just watched that. I’ll never be the same.
Oh, and I really enjoyed the podcast this week. My favorite part of this (and almost every) podcast is the three of you just riffing off each other, having fun, topic of the week be damned! It really brightens my day! Thanks!
I’m not done with the 'cast yet, but I feel compelled to offer these alternate views of Smurf reproduction, truly an issue of some significant debate.
Here’s the discussion from Donnie Darko (NSFW language):
And another from The Venture Brothers:
Obviously, the existence of Smurfette is irrelevant to any discussion of Smurf biology, since they’d existed without a female among them for quite some time before her creation. OTOH, the other Smurfs are clearly male, as evidenced by secondary sexual characteristics and the use of masculine pronouns.
To my mind, that leaves only three possibilities:
[ol]
[li]Smurfs reproduce by some heretofore-unknown homosexual means.
[/li][li]Smurfs reproduce asexually, either by budding (the real explanation of the “tail”?) or through some sort of magical cloning.
[/li][li]Smurfs are eternal and have no need for reproduction.
[/li][/ol]
In any case, however reproduction works for them (or doesn’t), Chuck’s teacher was right: Smurfs are an anti-Christian conspiracy.
Thanks! I have been leery to become involved in online fandoms but after hearing over and over again that y’all are the friendliest people in sci-fi, I had to take a leap and start posting. Its nice to see that everyone is very welcoming.
